    What exactly are rigs?

I didn't understand the short explanation given on the official website.

eh they add like higher damage to weapons at the cost of power grid cost and stuffs like that. devs also said they are working on tie fighter(old dos game) style power management for sometime in the next few kali patches XD

Ok simply put Rigs are implants that you cant remove for your ships. They now have rig slots in the ship fitting screen and a max rig ammount.

Each rig takes away from the rig ammount so there is onlt so much you can fit unlesss you use all basic rigs.

And you get rigs like ones that add 30% resist to shield EM DAMAGE image in return for a penaltie elsewhere that i cant remember for this one. probably something like 10% penalty on signiture radius which means you are 10% easier to hit with some wepons.

There are i belive over 100 different rigs right now tho i havent counted them but tere do seem to be a ton of rigs out there. Also it eill be a while till they are availabel as they are entirely player built and most of the parts are from salvaging wrecks and not everyone can do that yet [ i can tho image hehe ].

Sounds like a good addition to improve ship's settings, not that they weren't diverse enough as it was!

However not being able to remove a rig concerns me - do you mean they are like "implants for ships" in the way that once you remove them they can't be refitted to the same or any other ship and become useless? Or do they really have to stay in that ship forever?

Once you remove them, they are gone forever. Currently salvaging enough materials to make a single rig is incredibly tough as they require like 99 materials and each wreck is currently only giving 1 or 2 sometimes none. They'll probably fix this though.

Yeah, that seems too low for any one person to get a few rigs per ship.

Having said that, the hardcore PvPers/missioners may well reach about 15/100 materials for a rig each day, so it might only take them a week. Though they would probably be at it all the time haha.

I hope they don't become as useless as rogue drone drops - the minerals you get from them are nothing compared to the losses you take trying to destroy them!

Apologies if some of this is outdated/inaccurate talk.

While I'm glad the OP likes to help out there are plenty of "real" EVE players who post here regularly.   So if you still have questions feel free to ask them anytime.  Some of us have been posting on MMORPG as well as playing EVE longer than the OP image
