I played SWG for about an year back in 2003, and quitted for some reason i don't remember, but I've visited the game once in a while to see what's happened and so on, and yes i know about the big changes which has "ruined" the game or what people call it.
Anyway, is this game dying? like is there any servers that are populated these days?(played on eclipse)
And is it possible to enjoy the game in its current state?
What's your opinion?
The reason i'am asking is because i'am wondering if i should reactivate my account and try the game out again.
Edit: About the population, how is it compared to games like AO and DAoC?

Depends what you liked/didn't like about the game when you last tried it. If the 33 professions with the skill system were a highlight for you and you don't think you could play without them, then you might not like it now. Otherwise, it could be worth a try If you haven't logged in since sometime before 15/11/05 then I think you should still have a free 14day vet trial that will let you login with your old characters. To start it, you just need to install the game and then login to Launchpad.
From what I see everyday in game, I wouldn't say the game is dying. Populations are slowly increasing and I'd say there are more now then there were this time last year after the NGE hit. Also, many stores have completely sold out of the latest SWG pack released last week, so take that that how you like I'm not sure what the population is like compared to other games, since I only play SWG.
playing eq2 and two worlds
Don't remember last time i logged on, but anyway taking away the 33 professions was maybe not the best thing to happened, but what i like about it is that i can choose to be a jedi, which is one of my favorite characters of all time.
The only reason which are making me a little skeptic about trying the game again is the population, the population doesn't have to be as big as wow or eq2, just if its possible to see people from time to time I'm pleased.
One thing, which is the most populated server at the moment? or which server do you think is?
RBB has more players than entire Eisley has had at any time since NGE. On Bria, the most populated server. Hope that's a fair comparison. There's also more people just there than I've seen in any pvp fight in SWG, with exception of Restuss.
I know a lot of people hate the game because of the changes over the year, and how the game where some years back and it was a blast.
If you try to forget how the game was in the past, and just know how the game is now, what would you say about it then?
About the population thingy, it seems that people have different views on that, i know the game is not nearly as populated as before, but I've got the impression that the population is steadly coming back, or what?
And please don't just say the game "suck" atlast try to explain it.
@Obraik: True.
Just installed the game, just need to think and read a little bit more before i decide to resub and try, so i'll see.
Thanks for the answers.
Btw, which are the most populated servers?
The current state of the game?
That's easy: COMATOSE!!!! Exceedingly far from regaining a pulse, even with a transplant of any kind.
Sad but true.
Just reactivated my account, updating as we speak.
Looking forward to see how the game is and mostly how the population is on my server.
i have just quit swg after three years of playing the populion is very low and the game it self i feel is unbalced
the server i left was bria
it will never be the same
Shhh!!! Don't say what everyone already knows, that the games population is virtually non-existence or the game's terribly unbalanced. They'll delete your post and all the fanbois will come out and try to censor you, all two of them.
The gaming worlds worse kept secret SWG: Unpopulated Servers and Unbalanced Gameplay.
Maybe if they put all the servers populations together they have enough players for a battle of 5 on 5, you think?
'nuff said.
I miss the good ol' days when nerds were actually intelligent.
Please post what you think.... compared to what the game was once like.
(Some people refuse to see it for what it is).
Think of how the game once was... then look at what your in. Then be sure and oome back and post your thoughts...

The things that turn me off is hearsay at this point. I hear that only a few classes are able to PvP. That really turns me off, because DAoC is like that. Been there, done that. Its hard to find weapons, armor, and other stuff. Not because they don't exist, but because the bazaar is horrible. You can't search for stuff you can actually use. I'm not about to go through 50 pages of stuff, right-clicking each one.
Things I like. The story. The only MMORPG to date that has a storyline. Again, I'm only on my 3rd day, so this may change. I hope not. I'm tired of MMOs that want you to grind for the sake of grinding. That's why you go to work.
Call me a **ssy, but I like easymode (no I dont play jedi). This game is easymode. I was giddy when I was knocked out, and got back up. To me that is what gaming is about. Not about losing 10 days worth of work. That's what credit cards are for.
I'm looking forward to pvp. I just hope I can find a class that is not fotm, but is decent at pvp. I refuse to play jedi, but if someone has another suggestion do tell.
All right, Im going to give my honest opinion of the game as I see it now. Like the OP, I started in 2003 and played for about a year, then put the game down. I didnt play during CU at all. I returned to the game in March of this year and was SHOCKED. From the beginning I had only played one toon, on Bria. If this question had been asked when I returned to the game this past March, my reply would have been "DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY".
But that was then....
Now, Im seeing about 75% of the population that Bria had when I left. A lot of vets whos names I recognize from Pre-CU are popping up more often all the time. It took a few months, but I even started to see names in my friends list from back then spamming me with a system message as being online. Quite a few changes have happened for the better since March, and I'll actually applaud the devs for giving us a more 'Pre-CU' feeling interface. In its current state, the combat professions seem fairly balanced. Not perfect, but not horribly skewed toward any one profession. The trader profession is still out in the dark, awaiting their update in Publish 5, which is supposed to happen around March. Decay is gone, whether thats a good or bad thing is a matter of opinion. Im even undecided. I'd rather have no decay than too much decay, as Ive heard was the case during CU times. But the crafters definitely need some lovin'. Especially since I created one when I found out that we can now have 2 toons per server on an account.
My thoughs in a nutshell: I'd still Chuck-Norris-roundhouse-kick a dev or whoever made/supported the call to do NGE, murdering the best skill/profession set ever to grace an MMORPG. But at the same time I'd pick them up and dust them off for turning NGE around and pointing it in somewhat the right direction again. If youre a crafter/trader.... dont bother until publish 5 unless you want to gather resources between now and then. If youre a combat toon and enjoy PvP, get back in there and play in Restuss and the new GCW system to see if it suits you. Is the game dying? Let's say it had a near-death experience and is on a long road to (hopefully) full recovery.
If you compared it to the great game it once was PRE CU , current state is non star wars like , ugly UI , bad combat style , low pop , bad supported by $OE and dying game.
