Ok, I’m at my breaking point with fanboi’s. Its time something is done.

THE FANBOI”S GUIDE TO REALITY AND SWG

(OMG our insulting me aren’t you? No I’m not, as a matter of a fact I’m concerned and want to help you. My goal is to explain PRECU past the COMP WARS and SUPER BUFFS, to the Lack of quest issues actually any I see poorly used to make a pointless point trying to disprove a obvious fact or in a sad attempt to protect those poor ole DEVS.)

PLEASE NOTE: This will be a long read and you are required to provide facts pertaining to the actual issue, if you wish to dispute anything here.

I’m going to break down PREcu SWG in detail, and compare with WOW, and ask you why you would support SOE after you saw what they did to the VETS, even if NGE made finally made you even with all players, and now you don’t have to beg for change in star ports. I Think

------------------------------------------------------

FANBOI, NO, NO … Never tell VETS you played PREcu, There is no such thing as a good player Ex-VET that likes the NGE, right off we know you were the doc healing wounds 10 at a time, or dropping price buster, super noob  crafts at the bazaar, well perhaps just getting PWND by a krettle……

Just free advice so People might read your post from that point forward.

(Reason, we think this is the NGE makes all players the same, it removed many things that made some players Famous, made a lot more wanting to be famous or the guy who could only play 10 min a day and should be as good as you if he had the time to play a MMO)

#1 Fanboi attempts to WOW, PRECU Economy but sadly proves himself wrong

By Rekrul

Economy in WoW is good. Very good as a matter of fact.

Sorry for vagueness, but I don't remember details.

There is a set of resources split among 4, 5? Professions. Each player can only take atmost 2 of those.

There are crafting professions which convert these resources into tangible items. Once again, player gets 1? of these.

The items crafted are split among 3? types.
- Ingredients (available to all)
- Consumables (Different types usable by different classes)
- Enhancements (add attributes to existing items)

Consumables are well balanced, so that supply and demand match. They are available in apt quantities yet market is kept stable. Since all consumables are both produced and consumed across all classes evenly, there are no market spikes.

All items are looted. Large part of them is transformed into money, smaller part is converted into ingredients, remainder are items immediately used or re-sold. There are no decorative or useless items of any kind.

The grind oriented gameplay consistently opens access to higher level items, requiring you to constantly upgrade all aspects of your gear, including consumables.

This economy works very well with even mediocre influx of new players.

Compare this to SWG. All, except a dozen or even less items are undesirable. Grind is pointless and unsatisfactory, since you simply cannot sell anything except for the handful of perfect items. Flaws in implementation of resource gathering have led to overharvesting, working severly against resource market. Majority of resources (95%+) are worthless, so is majority of items (98%). They cannot be resold, converted into money or used in any other way. There is no feedback and all items follow straight path: resource -> item -> destroyed through decay.

Without any meaningful loop other than resource -> decay, the only aspect you end up with is hoarding intermediate products. There is no other mechanism that would enforce trade. The market turns into a replenish, rather than obtain. It becomes the epiphany of disposable mass-produced consumer market.

That isn't to say that SWG had bad economy by design. It was abysmal in implementation and lack of attention. It only worked for the purpose of SWG for two reasons. One was socially driven by players, through advertising, friendly deals, on-the-spot crafting. The other was the constant influx of new players and players switching professions. Economy used profession grind to fuel itself, rather than the "need" for items.

The monument to these flaws is seen on bazaar of today. Almost every single item there is worthless, undesirable and completely and utterly useless. Not only that, but it cannot be even converted into anything meaningful. In WoW, every single item being sold is useful, has value, and has even a nominal monetary value.

Yes, WoW has fantastic (one of the best) MMORPG economies. It has a great economy for for mmorp*GAME*.

Bioware creates games.

LOOT, ITEMS, THE ECONOMY AND YOU

WOW

Ok, so here’s a good example of why I’m taking all this time to do this look at this argument he’s making.

WOW’s economy is better because even if you loot animal feces you can sell it, and if isn’t desired turn it into Peanuts and play dough, Now I played WOW till I looted a shield off a dog, about 10 min. So I’m speculating WOW’s loot and crafting system, and can, very well be a bit off, however, I could leave out 50% of SWG’s economic structuring and WOWS Economy will look like well…. Feces

Ok I’ll guess all players craft, and it requires no real skill, calculations, schematics, Stats, preparation(food, drink to mod successes), player interaction, components that are item centric, additives, resources(each with 4 separate stats each one stat can affect differently according to material and item crafting), a good player made crafting station,  ect

Ok, WOW player loots Item A and Item C. Takes it and makes Item X, A lot like all other item Xs so puts on sale for 200k.

Assuming you craft without special equipment and get generally same stuff as anyone else would this would have affected the economy. We’ll say you paid for loot even.

Item A – 10k to player          please let me know if I missed any stuff I could of bought to

Item B- 10k to player            help effect craft positively or is necessary Thanks

Sold on bazaar- 200k you         not sure how WOW stats matter or if crafts are alike.

Buyer could careless who crafted if you can’t do much to improve. If true then business aspect as in creating and marking your products is non existent.

SWG

Ok, now we make item X in SWG, also using a real game arrangement I used with my main crafters,(I was Master Epistler ,BH ,Smug so I was limited to looting and creature harvesting) Crafter is a Master Crafter with 2 game goals,

#1 Get Rich by reputation as uber crafter

#2 makes and Sell Upper Mid Grade to High End Weaponry and Two de-10 builds to create an Uber item

Supplies and professions who benefits

Long Term

Crafting Station

- 200k – droid engineer

Skill attachments to make 12 Points

(20 points x 1 mill per point= 20 mill- Erow)

Custom tailored Crafting Suit (to only wear when crafting) all pieces are 4 sockets and have bio stats -400k – Taylor

Per Session

Bespin Punch and polly cake –chef-200k

(Increases chance for perfect success)

Uber Grade 200k x 2 crates

Resources (mined)-2 mill- surveyor

Many different kinds of material of varying values dependant on quality, rarity, and demand, lets says its 2 mill for making 2 additive de-10s  and 20 Reg High quality Xs

2 De-10 schematics -200k- Erow waives for the craft and best De-10

2 Yellow de-10 barrels -400k- Erow waives for crafting and best de-10

4 70 Dam Krayt Tissue -3 mill- paid by Erow waived for resources and craft and best DE10 then split by a 5 man hunting group

-

Ok crafter makes 20 mid weapons

De-10 1 came out 350 max

De-10 2 came out 370 max but hidden stat in barrel made the wound 90%

Goes to get weapons sliced

 50k per slice x 22=110k

8 speed slices puts 8 guns on bazzar 10k x 6=

60k profit

De-10 came out 400  max dam 250 normal without additives sold on auction

Profit 4 mill

Sold 12 good sliced weapons 200k x 12

Profit 2.4 mill

Results (numbers fictional)

Crafter had to wheel and deal with 11 players to do one crafting session

The session went as well as it could for crafter the smuggler hurt him on slices a bit

Crafter may clear 5 mill off session but paid out 3 mill.

Could of lost a lot if he sucked even an Uber crafter would get a funky craft time to time?

More ways to make money PreCU style

Scouts harvest avian meat for docs or buff pack makers. (This is what got me started they’ll buy all you can get a descent spawn something like 100 per unit each bird yield 10 units)

Armor smiths paid about same for wooly hide.

Could gather resources during good spawn and sell anyone could do this but need equipment to extract that particular resource

Can look on bazaar for good deals and go al la SWG Ghetto style

Do missions for emergency money, get avian missions for extra money, missions are worse way to make money.

Loot

Loot from 20k - 300mill

This is what I did when NGE hit, I had what dropped what, best way to loot, after a long time figuring it out, I wouldn’t bother selling anything under 1 mill and gave the loot to my crafters to make my stuff all custom and only with all uber supplies and craft in bonus town on all food possible.

Id always just take the best one and leave rest, I gave my armor smith 300 ns shards/layers

I really got lucky in DWB in 2 weeks looted 6 mando components ….Solo lol.

OH! NO! I’m Decaying

Items PRECU, I mean not our brain in the NGE it’s doing much worse.

Fanboi says that resources –decay- replenish is TEH SUX, Compared to WOWs ingeniously, innovatively, complex level systems, if only the game made me get all new crap each level I make it too, still awake. Your crap sells fast and you can go get the next thing the game requires.

#1 Levels sux, PreCU was a dangerous place with decay and having to earn an actual living in the game. Going somewhere usually was dangerous no matter what template you were. You could just be out on Dath swooping and boom NS take it out right before you. Levels is I’m 25 your 24. Levels suck 98% of fun from PvE.

Then remove all the strategy for 7 different resist to dam types and having to have a dam type effective against your target. Npc was all crazy and could whip any kind of weapon on you.

PreCU had the craziest NPCS, they were all nutty and talking smack. Would attack if not in faction favor. Trade all that for a number and then game tops it off making you into the number and nothing more …weee

Well again he defeats himself for me.

WOW crap sux requires no skills has no history, no story. Just some crap I looted off that alley cat.

SWG Players (the good ones or at least put minimal effort in) usually had to carefully plan out there gear, and took a lot of effort to maintain and protect UBER stuff Like Id hunt creatures in ubese armor and I had a suit for high end NPCs, creatures and PVP.

My PVP suit was multi, multi mill. Had it loaded with AAs, carried it on me always and stored in a droid so death wouldn’t decay it.

PREcu was a game that required you earn your spot in game. The game was brutal and seemed to love us to suffer won’t give us anything without a fight for it.

Main difference?       One game has people going oh boy a level now I can kill 23s let me toss all my crap now.

The other had people storing stuff when not using putting armor in droids and caring about what happens to you, making you think about a attack if you cant win can you escape. Fighting to win or running like a little bitch, whatever as long as you lived.

All people worry about now is how long it’ll take to get back from cloner. No one cares about anything like PREcu did, hell we still do.

SUMMARY OF ALL THIS RANTING (PRECU ECONOMY vs. WOWS LOOT)

PREcu wins, it required players to hire players all actions made by a player directly or indirectly affected groups of other players, all items varied greatly in quality and price

Everyone needed to buy something from someone and offered more depth to game making players differ according to what items they had and effort was rewarded.

Each player had several good outlets to make money, wasn’t stuck to just one thing.

Players success is linked to there skill, a player who sucked at crafting and made junk got little to nothing, If they didn’t look for work probably, didn’t find it.

This game was a lot like real life, Good work got good pay, I remember a lot of people was broke and always asking for handouts, now compare that too WOWS, you never lose game play. I’ll just have to stop playing MMOs. If everyone is entertained by a NPC sending them to go fetch and looting crap the computer hands out and I’ll be ok cusp your 25 and they are 24. Then to top it off Ill side up with the company who took 2 years of customer loyalty and then sell them 3 expansions in a row, they buy just cuz its star wars so you can fund the complete raping of their online world to us might as well be just trees left.

Then told to many idiots like star wars and even though they are making good money as is, just really want the stupid money like WOW, then throw complete slop down as NGE, and for the irony, The Fanboi who is the reason they nuked logic comes to the one place we have left a place we try to warn people about SOE.Comes in Taking up for SOE who made them a game for idiots that don’t like to read but love to shoot loot repeat.

Then proves it with some asinine remarks why WOWs better cuz he can sell worthless trinkets that support no one but himself. That way cooler cuz it don’t decay just has to get rid of all old level crap so he can run in shooting and not all creep in examining.

I think I just went legally insane as I was making this post I just realized I was visualizing looting and a shooting fur real. I’ll stop now hope this is informative and not a rant.

    I loled again.

So now I'm a WoW fanboi.

    Oh, the humanity.

I once made a post about my 3 week experience in WoW, listing its ups and down.

"Know thy enemy..." and similar. Not just a saying, but a good idea.

Understanding WHY something works is the key here. WHY does WoW work? It works, 7 out of 10 million MMO players say so. But WHY?

"Oh, yea, wow has honor system. Helios! Buy WoW strategy guide and put that into SWG"

WHY does WoW economy work? WHY do all who have played WoW ask the very same in other games? What is it that makes it so popular when it's the same old boring concept? Where does it differ, why is it balanced?

WHY did SWG fail from launch? What was wrong with SWG then, what went unfixed in NGE?

Fanboism is a dangerous thing. It leads to monoculture. And monocultures can't adapt. SOE is a monoculture - their games are designed completely and entirely around the age old concept: give players what they ask for.

What about Blizzard? They aren't afraid to look around. They look, experiment, play, copy, change every single concept that was ever used in any game, going back to terminals. End result? They don't copy "a feature". They implement something in a fun way.

That is the lesson SOE isn't learning. It's not about copying bullet-point features. Not from pre-cu, not from wow.

And the saddest thing is, when designers and publishers talk about: "DO NOT COPY WOW", everyone agrees. Everyone *knows* that.

What's the next thing you see? "Oh, we're not wow. We don't have elves, we use fairies."

They don't understand... There are very few people out there, that truly know what WoW is. And I know of only one person in power who is trying to break away from that (no, not Raph). The rest are simply copying WoW over and over. Vanguard, STO, LotrO - they are WoW. Watch them crash and burn.

Ok, Ill recall my Fanboi statement.

WOW would be like fixing a bicycle

SWG would be like fixing a 747

each item in swg had several stats for each thing from resources to finished items aarmor had what 7 dam types 8 if stun added then ecumberance on top of that.

each effected stuff used on you and vice a versa think all the calculations going after a couple shot weapon im using dam vs your armor, defences , food what special im using dot dam I honestly dont see how lag wasnt worse.

and swg wasnt complex combat with cheesy crafting, every profession was equally complex and items produced could be suck ass to uber licious .....all depended on how much you wanted it.

SWG was full of has and has nots ...some people just couldnt seem to ever get it alot of these type grinded jedi so uber was just given too them. these same folks were terrible jedis even.

I was a terrible noob, I had no concept of grinding, making money, a template, stats ...notta  some Master dressed up as noob, Dueled me just after my first peice of comp (20% lol) PWND me humilation style was a good guy thou

Taught me his template and from that point I would be the best Pistoleer possible and remain pistoleer no matter

what  took me Two month too master playing every night at least 2 hours, I just got xp as I went didnt know what grinding was, never was in a hurry anyway . Hell id chill for hours in my camp just hanging out chatting.

I got lots of stories I got from things like sqiulls gone wild, to lol what a noob. all Vets do because the game was just damn amazing never nothing to do , if this was someones prob then they were stupid and didnt know the game well enough to bitch.

Game was solid, maintance totally sucked .....I could counter any template except jedi, required top notch items and knowledge of appliyng them .

once they removed something they would mess up 20 others affected  by it they didnt bother  with and so forth , I really have no idea how they mapped it all out but just that alone would be 50% more complex that WOW just on paper
