Think UO may regain steam with new graphics?

I'm thinking if they really make it look nice , fix alot of bug/exploits and market the game right they have a shot to go in areas UO has never seen. Alot of people seem to think its going to be a great start of a new UO  , can look over on http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/uo/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=uouhall&page=&view=&sb=5&o=

are those screenshots the new graphics they're talking about?

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Yup.  The only chance UO has with gamers is to release classic servers, but they have been told that for years...

I am rooting for UO to come back on to the mmorpg schene with this upgrade.  However, graphics don't make a game, and from what I've heard since I left it, the game has changed.  I can't say whether it has changed for the best or not, but with this upgrade, I am interested in seeing UO again.  It's a smart move and maybe in the future other changes will follow, maybe even classic server with the new graphics . . .

Then you'll definitely be seeing me back in the game that started it all for me.  That would really be something.

well, i just started playing ca 2 weeks ago and love the game - not for the graphics, but for the people i meet, i guess. the only thing i would like to see reeeeeally different is the inventory handling....

btw, many whine about classic servers - what is so different nowadays, aside from content?

Its kinda useless to start a new account now.. if u wanna buy anything u have to have millions sadly:-(

    GO UO!

Graphics will help to sell the game again, but still it will not help with the underlying problem of broken systems.

Hardly any quests and PvE is out of whack.
Crafting in a coma and PvP has no reward and harldly incentives and sort of out of whack like PvE.

Still the best sandbox around, but nothing you can entertain the masses with this system.

Sort of what is different from the wild west to texas now.

Before you had all people thrown in a game where free pvp was allowed.
You had lots of communites from crafting to pvp to pvp all thrown together.

The pvp and pve community got seperated, which was necessary but done diletantly by ea.

Thing is before no one was safe and only the paranoid survived - interesting play, harsh, violent, but not player friendly.

Nowadays you can chose when to pick fights and losses are not so harsh anymore.

I prefer the Trammel version, than the hardcore pvp version, though EA unecessarily dumbed trammel down too much

EXACTLY... no one was safe... IT IS THE MIDDLE AGES!!! WHO THE HELL WAS SAFE IN THE MIDDLE AGES?!?!?! That is the POINT of the game, all noobs go through it... you might get killed... i mean really... what is THE WORST you coudl lose if a "red" killed you? how much gold can u carry... not much because of the weight.. a got killed alot leaving covetous and trying to RUN to Vesper and put away my measly 1K gold from 30 minutes of fighting harpies... this is what got your heart pumping! Adrenaline... u get attacked and you run for your life... you may die you may not, maybe get your 3 ICQ buddies that are currently online and see if they want to try and help u kill him, I went through ALL the PvP balancing... which was lame... it got to a point where it was very good... another party complained so it was f'd up again... now UO is where it is now...

with the new release of a NEW 3d client... the current game... stays the same... the NEW UO should be just that... NEW... after 9 years the game is filled with "fluff" and there is just CRAP int he game that no one uses etc... dungeons are messed up etc...

My friends and I had to use boats in lvl 4 covetous to kill dragons... they spawn on the land... fly to water and you have to go kill them to get them to come back.... this was back when 1 or 2 EVs would kill a dragon... make lots of money... eventually Origin killed that... it would take 10-20 EVs to kill but I kept playing... it then took 50 EVs so we just killed with FS and Ebolt... it kept getting worse and worse... and we would kill ALL the reds that came down there and had HUGE PvP battles in the middle of the dragon room of covetous all hours of the night... those were the days...

Hopefully new 3rd gen client(2nd gen 3D is WORTHLESS) is a NEW game... All new characters etc

I agree starting afresh would be best.  Sadly this does not seem to be the plan.

I copied the text below from their website

EA Mythic, formerly Mythic Entertainment, and the Ultima Online team are working together to bring about one of the most ambitious upgrades of any operating MMORPG. Created in such a way that current players who choose not to upgrade will be able to play without interruption, Ultima Online: Kingdom Reborn will ship in 2007 for PC.

I was keen about this now..... not so sure

I used to visit this site a lot however in recent years it has become the home of negative forum posts, illogical opinions and tantrums so I visit less often.

    Played or Beta'd: UO / DAOC / Horizons / EQ2 / DDO / EVE / Archlord / PirateKingsOnline / Tabula Rasa / LOTRO / AOC / Champions / Darkfall / Mortal Online / DCUO / Rift / STO / SWTOR / TSW

Well I play a in a fel based guild and alliance so we still reley on each other alot the community is still there just hard to find, I agree I think if they are gonna throw in new graphics the old ones need to go away.

I tried UO a while back, seemed like a really fun, in-depth game. However during all my time testing it out I felt like I was fighting its interface. It felt clunky and not so user-friendly. I heard they were rehaulng this soon as well as the graphics, so I'm still keeping an eye on it. This game has been out forever, I honestly think they should put ane ffort into making a truly 3D world to better compete with the other MMORPGs...because let's face it graphics are very important in selling a game these days....though not so important to throw gameplay out the window. (Looks accusingly at a zillion games.)

It's the same damn isometric, buggy-ass engine with a new slop of paint on it. EA is not going to put more work into UO than they have to. They had full 3D with UO2 and scrapped it while all the members were looking forward to it. Anyone who tries to say the new graphics are an improvement in anything other than smoother textures, they are blind or schills. Kingdom Reborn is more like Kingdom Collapsing::::07:: All hail, Richard Garriott. He's the only one who could fix UO. And when the fanbois, who claim this graphic "overhaul" is going to be 3D and bring subscribers back, find out that EA has once again dropped a turd in their lap without so much as a ribbon attached, let's see how many stick it out. EA has done the same "upgrade" 3 or 4 times already. It's all they are ever going to do. Maybe when this bombs, they'll finally kill it off. They have a tendancy to do that also when they don't make enough money off a product.

EA is a pile of shit filled with idiots. They don't know how to make UO2, which is the real reason they're not going to even try. God I hope some real game developer buys UO and makes something good out of it.
    Goddamn I miss classic UO!

Uo has let down customers for a long time they would have to do something amazing to get people back they allow too many hacks and cheats and most people don't want to even deal with it anymore I still stay only because I have been a guildmaster for a long time and I only stay because of my guild otherwise I'd be gone, I doubt they will do much more than throw a new coat of paint on the much needed sloppy paint job they have already created. Their GM's all need to be fired and they should let people run wild why spend money on worthless gm's! Thats my two cents EA stick it where the sun don't shine.

I completely agree!  I wish they'd bring back the classic servers or make some improvements so I would actually want to play again.
