Anyone know if we'll be able to see representations of a crew in "third-person" ship shots like these? They look a bit inhuman with no one visible aboard.

Correct. You can toggle crew visibility for your ship, and for other ships. Crew are a massive performance hit, so we give you lots of options to hide them. In the left (daytime) shot, though, there are crew on the ship on the left side... the ship is just really big, so they're hard to see.
Maybe it's crap, but it looks crap? People saying that you think all games normal player like suck, are right. The graphics of this game are great, I'm waiting for this game...

After watching many pirate movies, these screens at first disappoint me a little. I mean, in that time and age, I would expect things to look dirty, worn etc. But everything seems so streamlined and clean. I speak of both the boats and the harbor.

I suspect Hollywood do that just to add atmosphere. A Navy ship would have been cleaned regularly by the crew to keep it in good shape...
Thats not a dev, matey - thats a member of the community who's built a ship model for the PotBS User Content program ... visit the UC forum on the burningsea.com forums to read more about that.
That might be true, yes. But there is still something to it. I mean, things do get worn down by age etc. Streets get dirty, lower parts of building-walls should be dirty (just to mention a few). It all adds to the realism/authenticity.
I see it also in many other "persistent world" games. Where everything looks so fake because it's too clean etc. Just look at a game like Dark and Light. Games that promote beautiful landscapes and sceneries often lack the small details that add authenticity when you get up close and in front.
Though, I know this does not mean a game does not have a "feel". But from an outside perspective, and without having experienced the game's world first-hand, this is what I consider the most right now.

Don't click here...no2
are you planning to add wake effects?
Ships just floating in the water with no wake, making no waves or spray, is realy fake looking.
The game is very good. It tell the history of the pirates. It's very interisting, and is free...
