What if you could earn real money with playing MMOs?

I loved to play a MMORPG and become rich by being good at the game. What do you think?

What do you think all those gold farming companies do? And those powerleveling services?

    THE DREAM IS REAL.

Gold farmers get paid peanuts, and he did say getting payed for being good at a game.  There are game tournament circuits I believe and a select few making some money off of it but its not viable as a career...YET !!! :)

It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.

Aren't there already a couple of mmo's where you can translate your ingame credits into realworld cash?

The sweatshop workers in Asia do, but there are people making six-figures a year doing this.

    only one afaik
but there is a lot of games which do it the other way
-ingame money for paying cash and no i dont mean goldfarmes
there are companys who just let you pay for ingame cash isntead of a monthly fee

    @topic
there are a lot of tournaments where top players can win cash prizes
for mmos i believe they had cash prizes in guild wars
afaik other mmorpgs had only random gifts but nothing skill-oriented

Hah, wait. I remember Second Life. People earn craploads by being good at designing items, clothing etc. there. And it counts as an mmo.

Truth. I've read an article including an extensive interview with a guy who quit his job and bought a new house by selling credits for SWG, AO, and a couple other mmo's.

I don't think the workers earn much, it's the bosses that advocate a "play games for a living" position that manage to fetch a ton of really cheap labor. When you have an infinite amount people who want to do this for virtually free, but lack the initiative and managing skills to do anything about it, there is a lot of money to be made.

Well almost any game has a company were you can sell in game money to them and other people buy it.. For eve i usually cover paying for the game by selling isk... It is very possible to make a normal income at most mmo's by gaining a constant ammount of money. Yea tons of gamers have thought about it.

You can win money for winning gaming tournaments... in the end it all comes down to who you know. If you know the right people you can get into contests.. and well being GOOD is a big factor too i guess. xD

It is legal :) If you read the rules of conduct you'll find out if its ok in that particular game or not, As long as you make sure you put something like "Im selling money i gained in the game, and not the property of Eve-online" Obviously make it much more explanitory.. but you get the idea. As long as you do that, its legal.

You can make craploads of money in-game.

The tough part is finding the know-how, having the resources to get it done, and finding the right niche.

A perfect game would have been Lineage 2 when it first came out, i'm sure bot companies have made fortunes off of that game.

Me personally, when AION or a new game wtih tons of hype comes out, that doesn't suck, I'm going to look into botting it up for $$$. If you catch the market right, you can make a shitload without that much in resources.

I made 400-500 in diablo by selling duped gear for 2 weeks, had i started a year earlier, i would have made tens of thousands, but oh well, next time.

Twistid, you're tempting me too much to do this in EVE lol.

But in reality, if playing an MMO was your job, i think you'd end up hating it and getting bored.

I'll look into 2moons, i was waiting for a worthwhile game to do this on. In reference to EVE, I like the challenge of starting new, so I have about 30m net worth right now. It's fun, i like starting new and sometimes even when i'm rich in a gmae, tis' fun to play as a newbie.

But, when is 2moons coming out? Also, would you mind being more detailed about your exploits (literally and figuratively), I alwyas like learning new things and experiences, so just let me know via pm and what not.

Note: i'll continue to be 100% legit in EVE as i'm playing it for fun.

I think they are clever ideas but the money is not big. I think maybe someday, some games will come that you can make huge money from playing them.

Do understand that you don't really get better at MMOs(Well you do, but only not a whole lot). Your character gets better. That is why the only MMO(MMOesque, I know GameLoading) remotely even on the E-sport scene is GW, since everybody get's the max character and good items pretty quickly. Y

ou can earn money from becomming good at CS, CoD, Wc3x, SC, DoW and so on.
