I had alot of hope for HUxley, but now I can pretty wipe my hands clean of buying HUXLEY. I've recently read up that HUXLEY (WEBZEN) is utilizing MASSIVE (the notorious POS company who infects our games with ads) to employ ads into the game. this seems to be the new evil amognst the peaceful my friends.
I dont know about you, but I dont believe in having in game ads streaming to my game showing me stuff I dont want to buy, nor I can care about. Hell even if I liked the product, I dont want it in my game ruining my immersion. If i wanted realism Id play the game called LIFE lol.
I personally dont mind a ad or vending machine or some product hardcoded into the game as part of the environment. but for me where ads are dynamic, always changing, and just up there in your face,
I find them intrusive, invasive and plain out "BUY ME BUY ME! SPEND YOUR MONEY!!! YOU NEED ME TO EXIST!"i find it plain out rude, not to mention just like EA( what i would love to do to them and a nail studded aliuminum bat) the customers (US!!!) havent seen any drops in price, savings of any kind! all that money goes to the company, and we get buggy, horribly developed games that leave something to be desired.
Its evident this is an ongoing trend and someone or some people need to take a hose to MASSIVE and wash them down the drain like the dirty roaches they are. I absolutely despise them, its getting to a point I am soon not going to be able to buy any games without being bombarded by dynamic streaming ads in my games without the decency of a reacharound. I Wont be buying this game or any game that has streaming ads. then again thats just me.

If your a person that would seriosly let something this silly steer you away from playing a game that looks good to you then you have problems.. And let me be the first to tell ya that im glad you are deciding not to play..
See ya!

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith
BUT, you have to see where they are comming from and it may be neccessary. You see Huxley is an MMO. MMO's are fun with tons of people. Not many people know alot about Huxley. Huxley needs to build up its fan base to be successfull. Maybe they think avertising it will be good I dont know I just hope that it works so I can play with a bunch of people.

I think this might be a good thing, if they can advertise products in-game,which i dont care, then maybe the monthly payment will be lowered or non-existent.
who knows
Hopfully Webzen puts the extra funds to good use and will not give up on the game like SOE did PS.

There doing it as in-game buildboards in market places. More realistic enviroment,
I don't mind ads. Servers cost money.
But if they want me to subscribe as well, they will need an ad free version. No offense to the good people at Webzen, but if you want to charge for a premium service, you will have to provide a premium service. Subscription or Adverts. Not both.
.
Shame, I was looking forward to this title so much. Maybe I'll just wait a few years and play it when it is free.
pisses me off because now there wont be alot of people to play with/kill. I mean honestly guys your not going to
play a game JUST BECAUSE it has billboards that say buy this? You don't even have to read the darn thing. And this
effects the game.....how? Re think your answers guys.... crap I feel like I am advertising this game or something lol.
On a side note, its amazing to me how people let something so silly effect there feelings about playing a game... Oh well, its uptight people like this I really don't want playing a MMORPG with me in the first place.
P.S JackBauer24 screw em if they don't want to play this game because of adds..Who needs them, they are a small minority anyways. This game is starting to pick up some steam, more people then you think will be playing it. Who cares if a few 'I have my morals' ones will not.

I believe the in-game advertisements will be for relevant items, such as gear that will enhance both aspects of the game.
IE: Computer equipment aimed at MMORPG players, and FPS players.
That said, I don't mind seeing an advertisement in-game, logging out and viewing the item if it benefits me, or even interests me.
The only way I could find advertising in-game 'intrusive' is if it were a splash screen or something at the end of the game.
Similar to a demo, when you log out it spams like 7 splash screens telling you features and what not, when you just want to log the hell out and go on with your life. That would bother me, but not even to the point of considering quitting.
What's wrong with seeing an advertisement? Or do you like staring at the same textures all day? Think of it like this, you're playing an MMOFPS, and as with many MMO's; they're monotonous.
you guys obviously dont under stand the prevalent "evils"(i use that term loosely of course) of in game advertising in your game. as far as im concerned its a blatant misuse and intrusive "feature" of a game that "caters" to bombarding me with crap i can careless, I dnt want to be forced to see a damn billboard of nilke or mcdonalds with the ability to stream it based on how I view it, if thats the case they can pull much more info on me my location etc without my knowledge which swerves into a whole another realm of uneasy "privacy siphoning" software. (yes they do it eitehr way, but I dont have to worry about getting slammed with nike, and mountian dew ads 24/7)
yeah yeah I know im hamming it up a bit maybe thats true, but why should i see streaming in game ads?? what use or benefit does it give me?? nothing! you can flame me all you want! play the game all you want be happy in the sweet carressing knowledge i wont be there among you. I loved this game, what it has, and the potential it could hold PVP wise as I am like many people horrendously tired of orcs, wizards, and paladins and other likewise BS.
but I see no benefit in adverts in my game (i use the term "my game" loosely of course for the mentally defunct amongst us) it holds to many unknowns for my comfort, and with the BS EA pulled it makes the issue even more uneasy for me. We have yet to see any benefits in pricing, content, resources, tech support etc when it comes to MMORGS or games in general ( SWAT 4 need i say more) its a grab bag of ugly that holds no recourse for me other than to let go of the fact I wont play this game in its current or soon to be current state.
Massive is the true evil i think MASSIVE is a bane of Game existence, and I wish they never stepped from the rock from which they came. cause you let one roach loose, and they start breeding fast and soon enough you have an infestation. MASSIVE is nothing more than an infestation that benefits nothing other than its own greed and narcassistic tendencies.
in the end I dont think there is such a thing as a "minority" like me. hey, feel content in knowing that WEbzen is making free money off you and never passing the savings to you, as well as MASSIVE advertising company which shouldnt exist. (use ya imagination)
only way id play this game is if i could find a way to prevent them from spamming me with ads. similar to what SWAT 4 had maybe with the HOST file in windows. but theyd probably prevent you from playing the game entirely if thats the case. eh, oh well moving on to bigger and btter things.

That's the whole point, if it is flashed up all over my computer screen in the middle of a game I am playing, I do.
And don't be thinking that they won't be making those adverts as eye catching as they possibly can.
.
This will affect gameplay by adding bugs for a start and probably a bit of lag once in a while, if it's anything like Battlefield 2 it will constantly irritate my anti-virus as well. Development time and resources that could be spent on adding or perfecting exciting features to the game for the sole purpose of my enjoyment will be otherwise spent on this.
The above is a photoshopped image of BF2142 for your comedy entertainment.
But the major thing is, I don't like billboards that say "buy this". I also don't like tele sales, text message spam on my phone, junk mail, email spam or advert breaks in my movies on T.V. or door to door sales men either. I value my privacy.
Neither do I like people who seek to earn extra money off my discomfort, or attempt to charge more than a reasonable rate for a product.
I think there is a very reasonable content vs advertising model used on T.V., radio or Kazaa, where you get free content sponsored by advertising, or in glossy magasines and newspapers where advertising is used to offset the price and lower the cost to the end user. In these cases there is an acceptable benefit to me.
But if they are charging the same as everyone who doesn't use advertising then there is not. They are simply taking advantage of my unwillingness/inertia to make a fuss. Sleepwalking into a bad deal isn't my style.
I don't believe in financially rewarding people for taking actions adverse to my intrests. It only encourages them to do so more. I fully intend to be gaming for at least another 60 years, this won't be my last oportunity to play an enjoyable game. I don't want to help set the precedent for games companies to hike up the prices or spam me with unasked for adverts for the rest of my life or in future titles that I might enjoy. This sort of behaviour is not something I am willing to encourage. It would be shortsighted.
However good Huxley is, it's not worth sacrificing the quality of the future games industry for. I'm in it for the long haul.
@Tinybina, no worries mate, you pay all the costs and I'll just play the game for free once you are long gone.
To the 2 cry babys whinning and crying about adds, the game will have them so too bad so sad.
So don't play and don't post on a forums to a game that you will not be playing.
Nothing you post here will change that fact. Life is tough kids and contrary to what you might believe your not going to always have get it served to you your way. Often times your going to have to deal with stuff you don't like and can't change. *shock*.
(now time for me to take my own sig advice)

As I said, I'll play it when the price matches the service.
Since it has ads, that will be when it is free.
Since you like them so much, I'll let you enjoy those ads and pay for the development of the game for me instead. Your loss is my gain.

I also believe it is helpful to provide feedback for developers as to what is and is not sought after in a game. If they don't know it's not broken, they can't fix it. Clearly it is useful for a developer to have a better understanding of all the possible effects to their revenue stream before they go live and implement something rather than after. I am a firm believer in stating my objections before the damage is done so that there is a reasonable chance for them to be addressed, should the wish to. Rather than mentioning it afterwards when it is already too late.
I realise that my post may not prevent the inclusion of advets in this game or any other, but if you don't make any effort at all the chances of you recieving any reward is always reduced. This isn't a subject I feel apathetic about.
As far as Huxley goes, it hasn't been finished yet, and it's never too late in game with updates. I think developers intrested in this revenue model should investigate the responses to BF 2142, SWAT 4, (Anarchy online?) and Planetside. Webzens a big company they could probably poll their existing clientele to get a better idea of how it will be recieved by their customers. If they haven't already done so.

Agreed lol.
i am a firm believer in that my words will be heard along with others who voice their concerns in tandem with me. 1 complaint isnt an issue, but if you multiply that complaint or discourse by the thousands or more, then it becomes a relavant issue for the developer to investigate if this course of action is good for their bottom line. Lets not hide the fact that Advertisements do bring money in, but its merely conceptual model in which nothing is ever certain. Secondly they would take heed to the firestorm that took place a month back as well a year or 2 ago with BF2142 and SWAT4 issue with adverts. This make its truly prevelant.
I won't deny the developers need to assert themselves and manage what their financial bottomline is going to be. but they have to base it on realistic goals. and That "minority" on adverts is not so much a minority as some misinformed people like to think, it is infact majority of people who do not appreciate in game adverts. But I degress, Myself, like many people would tolerate adverts if it reduces or eliminates any and all fees for the game in question. I wouldnt mind paying $40 and no monthly fee, with expansions at later dates which include substantial content, gameplay, quests and other relavant items to the game which enhances or enriches the game.

i agree my post wont be prevent, but in a simulataneous outburst of our complaints to the developers to hear they would in fact investigate what is the right course of action to take.i think anyone who says nothing, has no right to complain.

It hasn't been finished yet, and there is yet time for Webzen too look into this matter and right certain wrongs that have been enacted. I think BF2142 and SWAT 4 fiascos' that took place in the past are a solid lesson on what not to do. I for one am hopeful they will do the right thing. But then again hope is merely a plausible illusion for those wishing for something to happen that has yet to.

i agree if it makes it a better game, and allows them to higher more people to bring helluvalot content to the game, im all for it. but this hasnt been the case e.g. bf2142 which is a buggy mess and is laughable at best. lets hope webzen will be doing the right thing and put this to some good use.

If the adds are in context, say crumpled Pepsi Cans as opposed to a sparkly new Pepsi vending machine or say SAMSUNG monitors used in places where computer screens are needed, what's the big deal?
Do you not go to movies when they are littered with Apple Powerbooks?
To me, it all depends on how invasive the adds are in the game.
When i Log on and am waiting for the game to load or patch and they choose to put some ads there...i don't realy have anyproblem with that(asuming it done tastefully and won't interfear with my computer of the game). If i run to the train and see an "Alienware" poster on the wall in the city...that is not a realy big deal, to me atleast.
However, if i'm out enjoying the game, shooting down mobs and enemy players then a big advertisement randomly flips down over the screen...thats is a huge problem to me. Forcibly applying the google/yahoo/whatever toolbar to my internet explorer is also an example of an unaceptable "ingame" advertisement.
In game ads means an additional revenue stream for the developer - you the consumer paying to download the ads will see no benefit.
I have seen developers on other games with ads post to say there will be no reduction in monthly fees as the income from the adds is not enough to reduce the monthly fee by even $1.
