Question About MMORPGS

Ok i need some people opinion over here.

I never paid for any MMORPG yet in my life, but i've been playing serveral because my friends DO pay for them. Played planetside, ac,ac2,Ragnarok Online and SWG.

I was really looking forward to the WoW beta, but it seems that i wont be in after all image

I got sum free money i could spend on a MMORPG right now, I would like to know witch one on the market now would be the best to play with, if im just looking to play until im in WoW beta or until the game actually get out.

So I need a game where i can get to appreciate it really fast, even being low lvl coz i don't really have much hours to spend per week!

I got a preference when it's a fantasy game, but if u know a REALLY good sci.fy one, could work too ;)

Any good Idea ?

thx

Btw it can be an open-free beta if it really worth it :)

Well if you're waiting for world of warcraft to come out may I suggest DAOC.  First off, the gold edtion, which comes with both the Dark Age of Camelot and the expansion Shrouded isles, is going for only 20 dollars, Plus that 20 dollars also gets you a 30 day free trail trail.  Which is only seven dollars more than you would pay for just your first month of service with most other mmorpgs.

Besides the price, which is always a boon when looking to pay for a game only temperarly, the reason I suggest DAOC, is that:

    1.  It's fantasy, which is your perfered type of genra.

    2.  The combat and pvp systems put in place in world of warcraft are modeled after dark age of camelot, (before you bite my head off all you people in the forums, this information was gathered from reading the accounts of almost every beta journal I could get my hands on, so image)  So playing DAOC should give you a hands on experance with the type of systems put in place in WOW.

    3.  Most people on this forum will agree, that out of the MMORPGS on the market, DAOC is one of the best.   As for as conceptiual design and actual content.

The only minus I can possilby see is that DAOC does take a little bit of pacients to get into.  Which I know goes again't your prefrence, but I think thats worth it when you consider the positives.

Thats just my two sense anyway:

To tell you the truth, I dont think there are any GREAT MMORPG's on the market as of now.

I would recomend trying to sign up for beta contests as you get to play the games for free, and they waste your time. It gives you a good grasp on different types of MMORPGs while you get to help develope them in the process. Since you don't mind playing as a low level character for awhile, then you would be the perfect candidate since most test only allow you to go so far and then restart from scratch anyways. There will always be plenty of low level characters to have fun with image.

image     QUICK... GO SIGN UP FOR RYL BETA AT THEIR OFFICIAL SITE BEFORE ITS TO LATE!!!

P.S. Lineage 2 OB is just around the corner.... you should go to www.lineage2.com as well for a beta app.

Dark Age of Camelot is a good time-waster until WoW comes out. Its got a decent community of players. I'm burnt out from playing it, so no more for me.

I paid for two games in my life: EQ (which was fascinating game, especially after first 40 levels image ) and SWG (which is a fascinating game playing it for the first months). I agree that sometimes playing MMORPG can be ab expensive hobby but take into accont that you pay for the quality and support. You don't need to buy a new game every month or to play few MMORPGs at the same time, if the game you have chosen is good and interesting for you, you can play it for ages (i've been playing EQ for 3 years and stopped just few months ago, cause got bored, but it's normal, it happens in online world that you just get bored; the second reason was that i had troubles within the guild and we divided into two guilds and finish up almost fighting with each other in the real world via ICQ and so on). But again it happens in the world of MMORPG.

And if you compare the amount of fun you get and the price of about 15$, there is no point to stay away from this world and just look from the side.

My advice is ti try some new coming MMORPG (in closed beta or if you are unlucky to get into, in open beta) and decide which game you want to play. I would go for WoW or Dark & Light, but it's upto your taste.

Good luck in your adventures and see you in some game; don't be scared to try

I've been to many places, i've seen so many faces...

I've paid for abt 9 dfifferent mmporgs over the last 5 years. Use the Beta's or free trials to be sure of a game first. I bought AO and hated within a week of playing. Do the Beta's /free trials

Hmm...never really payed for an MMORPG either. Do all of you think it's worth the high fee? I mean, there are plenty of good 2D games like the one I've been trying to get people to come over chat with me (www.diverseempires.com), but all of them seem to eventually collapse or something. If I did have the money for a game, do you think its worth it to spend it?

I wouldn't go for DAOC. Either get Linage 2 (if you preorder you can play now allready in beta) or if you like Scifi you should go for AO. AO is a very solid fun MMORPG.

as for being worth it, it depends on what you type of game you enjoy. I hate 2D games, having played mmporgs for so long. In the end, you could just do the free trials, but 24 dollars isn't that much to pay a month (highest cost i know of).

DAOC is a decent game I spent 2 years as a tester on it and it is one of the best games out right now but it still is an inevitable treadmill. For a new player you could be absorbed in it for a quite a long time honestly. Other than that I would suggest to you that you wait for the next phase of games to hit.

One of the best games in alpha stage right now that is also no pay to play is Guild Wars and it's an incredible looking game and revolutionary in it's design. I am a GM of a guild that has been gaming for many years and we personally are awaiting GW and WOW. With that said there are many games that may suit you too many to list that are scheduled for release in the near future/this year.

Take a look at the column on the site to the lower left that says games in development and you will find all you need. I would honestly suggest that to anyone new here the site here has a ton of information that you can find you just have to look for it image . Good luck in whatever you choose.

**what game is $24 a month?**

There used to be a strategy/roleplaying game a few years ago when mmporgs first came out that i signed up for. Can actually remember the name of it. I'm probably mixing this up with my porn accounts though image

AO is a good sci-fi mmorpg. Its realitively easy to get into. You can download all the software on their website, with a 7 day free trail period.
