Yeah, I know there are similar threads, but I want a direct answer if I could get one.  I did see that alot of you are wanting to play from start instead of being thrown in... me too... even would like to get into an early guild and become a force as early as possible.  Now for my question, lets say I start the game and im... i dunno some type of mage.. and I get to lvl 50ish... then I decide I want to play warrior some.. do I have to start a whole new char in this game or can I just go change to that job.. much like in FFXI.  Ive mentioned before Im spoiled by FFXI play... willing to make a change, because I want a change.  I don't have any experience not being able to change jobs whenever I want and that *seems* like it would kinda suck tbh XD.  Anyway, either way, I can't wait to be one of the first people in Vanguard, so excited, sux jumping into a game and everything is already discovered and known.. and basically you feel poor and always left behind... I would like to finaly lead the way, and be one of the people discovering new things.  Thanks.

I have no info, but my guess is that they wouldn't allow you to just swap career at the top.

This would be for two reasons:

    1) You would end up with "flavour of the month" classes - they nerf one class and buff another, next thing you know everyone plays that class - I saw alot of this in AC2 and while it was fun to play at the top with different classes you could tell those that had switched because...

    2) You don't know how to play the class as well as someone that has been since level one.

No you just can't change classes mid way, you'd have to start a new character.

I hope that they won't allow anyone to just switch from one master to another without working to attain the rank/level.

I can't speak for everyone else but I feel to be a 'force' you need to do more than master one thing and just jump from profession to profession.  The grind and the experience makes you the player that you are.  It just seems cheap if you can do that in FFXI

Actually in FFXI when you switch from class to class your level in the new job starts at 1 and you can level that job up.  back to the original question, if its going to be anything like EQ then you will have one job per character.

There is no flavor of the month per se in guild wars that I know of. Bad MMOs nerf, good MMOs buff the less desireable sets to make them onpar with the good ones.

In FFXI when you switch jobs, like someone else already mentioned, your new job starts over at level 1 according to what my FFXI buddy told me

uh... yeah i didnt want this to be a dis FFXI thread.. In FFXI, max lvl is 75.  Now, I could be lvl 75 PLD, and maybe now I want to lvl a WAR, so guess what, I dont have to start a all new character, I keep the same one just change my jobs... later tonight maybe my people want to do a raid, so i switch back to PLD.  In FFXI, right now off the top of my head I can tell you that I have a 75 PLD a 75 DRK a 71 WAR a 65 NIN a 45 THF a 37 SAM a 30 WHM a 30 SMN a 25 BLM a 25 RDM a 25 RNG, and theres a few more that i dont know what lvl.. but the point is.. this is ALL on 1 character.  I can play those jobs anytime I want, when it fits me.  I dont want to have 10 different characters if I want to try 10 different  jobs.  That would kinda be lame, I would think. One thing I really like about this, is building upon 1 character makes you very versatile.

Now since that is cleared up, I would like to get back to what I really wanted to know here. Is Vanguard gonna let someone be this versatile, or is it gonna be, max out a job.. if you want another start a char from scratch? ; ; I hope thats not the case, but please help answer the question if you can, dont just knock FFXI, I wasnt using it to be knocked, I used it here to give an example.

The main advantage that the FFXI system seems to offer is community-oriented.  It is easy to spot your friends.  (or the jerks so you can avoid them, there is no escape for them)

That's been said, a game like CoH uses global handles, which pretty much achieve the same results without you switching classes; and to realize a jerk is online you have to do some more checking, it doesn't say it as soon as you group him, so focus on the positive, yet all info is there if you really want to know...IMO it is better that way.  So friends see you easily, yet, it is clear what your role is, what you are doing.  If I log in my rogue or my chanter, it is clear what I am wanting to play, it might be possible to convince me to switch, but it is avoiding all misconception right away...Anofalye is online and playing Anofalye, so it is the chanter...Anofalye is online and playing Sannye, so it is the rogue...Anofalye is online and playing Hevola...dunno, must be a new toon, let's check more info to learn what ano's is playing and see if it is possible to convince logging in the desired toon.

I always think that the community deserves an easy way to spot who is playing what, global handle instead of characters friendlists are achieving this goal.  Switching all jobs on 1 character is confusing for everyone, and its become a mess when you goes to items...and looting policies would be nightmarishses.  How would you define NBG thinking?  Your main class?  Your currently played class?  Any class you played up to X levels?  Any class you Plan on playing?  Haha, I already see all the moaning, bitching and fighting over looting, especially in the NBG oriented groups...

ATM, I "think" Vanguard offers none, but having the global handles instead of the character names would be easy to implement while offering all the advantage of both scenarios.  This represent relatively little work and can be added with any expansion.  (actually, having the global handle followed by the currently played toon)  Again, CoH did that right.
