get a free trial or use the next "welcome back soldier" re-eval and check for yourself.

    Old timer as well here.

I would have to say your opinion on whether or not this game is dying totally depends on when you played, when you played the most, and when you stopped playing.

There are a lot of very dedicated players playing the game at the moment, and there are fights to be found.

However, it's nothing like it was several years ago.

I was wondering if they have optimized the performance yet?

If I get my new laptop I will definitely try it out again (my current pc is low on cpu power and ram I think but good on gfx card yet this game seems to use the first 2 rather than the last)

This game is really making progress.  You should all check it out by using the free trials.  Bouncing grenades, ability to use lmg from windows and over berms, table of equipment where briagades are the source of supply not the towns, new inf models, complete audit of vehicles... It's all good.

Been away for some months as well now.  After 3 years subscription
it was time for something else.  Keep the game alive for when I
    come back :-)

It still kicks, and will even more. The problem is that with such an active community, and developers that actually listen to the community, you will have people pulling in many different directions. This makes for a community that signals discontent to the casual reader, while it should actually spell:

"This game hasn't moved in the direction that I like but it is still by far the best game out there, and therefore I keep whining and hoping"

I love wwiionline. I occationally take breaks, but I always come back.

It is consistantly growing and evolving. This game rocks and I'm sure as more people join it will get even better. If you haven't come back yet I would suggest doing soimage

Yeah, I think it's really gotten better over the years and I really like playing it.  I would also suggest coming back if you left for something else and see what you're missing!

Ah man, I remember I played this game a few years back. I was really excited about the idea of it, but it seemed that my computer just couldn't handle it at the time.

I remember dying and going to some place that other players called 'blue heaven' or something. It was basially a point under the world where all you saw was blue and you got stuck there, haha.

Anyone have any idea how many subscribers this game has now?

The game has gone through alot of changes, but as always wait for the next patch to try it out... Its a great game that develops all the time and with that all the bugs that follow. That havend changed :-)
Performance patch not out yet. but I havend felt downgrade in FPS in the last 6 month and I have 3 year old system.

Maps seems to last longer with big stalls untill either HC makes a mistake and thus loose moral as always.

High and low time seems more consistent but there is still always a fight to fight especially if you join a big squad.
Im still amased how good and fun this game can  be when you are blowing defended FBs. Its never the same and it still makes you feel like your are in saving private ryan and cleaning out that MG nest with draw fire, flanking and smoke grenades.

Hmmm... I think your calendar needs adjusting.  Last I checked, it's still 2006, and the game was released in June '01.  Let's see... I think that's about 5 1/2 years.  Also keep in mind that the first year or two was focused on mere self-preservation and it hasn't been until the past couple of years that the devs have been able to get some major progress going, but it is making some serious progress these days!
