It's not unplayable for me. But I, and everyone else that plays it, learned early on that you have to turn off all the bells and whistles in order for the game to play properly. I'm sorry but when a P4 2.4GHZ w/1gb RAM and a Radeon 9700 128mb Video Card can't handle the game at "medium" settings something is seriously wrong with the code. (Mind you the RECOMMENDED system is a P4 1.4 or Athlon 1.4, 512mb Ram, 128mb Video Card) That kind of BUG should NEVER be in a 'final' release, even in a "MMO". I exceed the processor by almost 100%, I exceed the RAM by 100% and I meet the video requirements. But the game is laggy as hell at the "medium" settings?
"or maybe you just don't like the game again like i said just because you do not like it does not make it a bad game.....so just move on and I could care less for everyones complaining on this game"
I played it for 4 months. It's not that I don't "like it" it's that the game just isn't worth the monthly fee. Why pay full price (and then some) for a game that 1) isn't even finished and 2) isn't even fully playable on a system that exceeds the RECOMMENDED hardware configuration. The crafting system is unbalanced and "adventurers" have very little reward for hunting. The skill system and crafting system are FIRST RATE. The SCENERY graphics are pretty good for the genre, SWG has better graphics though, as does EVE and even AO gives it a run for it's money. The characters look unfinished and blocky and they animation is awkward.
"If you wish to taste the ground, then feel free to attack"
I would refer you to your own quote. You haven't even played the game but you feel qualified to argue with those of us who played in beta and for a couple months in Final. Who do you think is more qualified to review a game? Someone who's just read about it or someone who, until about a month ago, was defending it?
We all thought, all of us that have quit recently, that the game was good for a while. We were willing to cut the Devs some slack for the first couple weeks. But after an entire month with no real progress and then another month of endless delays, and the first series of REAL changes not even on TEST yet... we're giving up. People are leaving Horizons in DROVES. Server population is WAY WAY WAY down from when the game first started.
I'm not saying it's going to die, but it may. I don't have exact numbers but when the servers are significantly lower in population percentages only 4 months into release then there are serious problems with the game, no matter what wishful thinkers may want to think.

Um, just for your information. HZ is not set in "Mideaval days" it's set in HIGH FANTASY.
And last time I checked every fable, myth and legend regarding HIGH FANTASY had people killing dragons, monsters, critters and other things and getting neat items from them. Not TONS of them, but some.
In Horizons there is... NOTHING Not one sword You cant even get a broken magic sword and have a crafter fix it You can't have a crafter fix the broken shields. They have to rip it apart (for FAR fewer resources than it takes to make one)
And, yes, we knew. If the loot were the ONLY issue most of us would still be playing.
But loot isn't the only problem.
Group combat is broken. There is absolutely NO REASON to group in HZ... it's 99% soloists. Don't believe me? Go play it.
Crafting is ok, but it turns into a treadmill quickly, especially beyond 30 or 40 skill.
I've played to level 65 Ranger and level 50 Outfitter... have you?
The game is pedantic, repetitive, has very little actual CONTENT... there are VAST, IMMENSE, HUGE empty places where NOTHING spawns. The few GOOD camps had veritable ARMIES of people at them initially. Eventually there were fewer and fewer, now it's fairly empty... Not because people have spread out but because people are quitting. Everyone I know who tried Horizons has quit. 20 out of 20 people. Not a single one is still paying, or playing. Those are close friends. Out of the 100 people in our guild only 15 were still playing when I left.
85 out of 100 players who quit
Yes, crafting etc is fun to a few people. The problem is that is a VERY niche area. In any MMO out you will find the following: 85-90% adventurers or Adventurers that dabble in crafting now and then. 10-15% dedicated crafters. Take that demographic to HZ and you wind up with 50-60% of the playerbase bored out of their minds.
I suspect it's actually higher than 50-60% based on the fact that 100% of my personal friends have all quit and 85% of our guild quit the game. We didn't even go to anything else for the most part. Most of us are waiting for WOW or MEO or UXO or EQ2 to start betas so we can play those. A few of us went back to older games like EVE, E&B(suckers, now they gotta move again), SWG, UO, EQ, Etc.
I'm not saying some people don't enjoy it. But from the demographics I've seen. And the drastic drop in server populations. I would say that the vast majority of the players don't like it.

Ok so you think you'll enjoy the game.
Just a question: How much fun is playing an MMO that you never see another player in? Or rarely?
I play Jumpgate and it's fun. But if they don't start getting more than 60 or so people on at peak time I won't be there long. Not because the game isn't fun... it rocks... it's a fantastic space sim... very fun and very engrossing... but because if I want to play a space sim with only 60 people... I can play Freelancer for free.
The same is true of Horizons... if I want to play a Fantasy MMO with just a few people whom I run into occasionally there are free MMO's out there that I can do that in. Hell you can get UO (which has an even better crafting/skill system) and play on a player shard for free with over 500 other consecutive players at any given time.
Bottom line: HZ just isn't worth the subscription price right now. They rushed it to market and the players are voting with their wallets. The game has become a ghost town.

you have aim we can continue this on there so people do not think we doing this for "post count"
but I am only gonna say I agree with you..this was never ment to notehr or offend you in any way......I think people should jsut atleast give the game a month or two then come back and see if anything is better....I personally will try the game out for atleast a month and if i do not like it then alwellI will try again in a month or 2 and if i like it then yay...
me personally my most anticipated game is WoW.....that sounds like it will blow all other mmorpgs out of the water....everything I have heard and read about in that game sounds truly insane......
1 question
you try for beta for WoW and did you get accepted???
"If you wish to taste the ground, then feel free to attack"
"If you wish to taste the ground, then feel free to attack"
Still praying to get into WOW I have some friends who got in and are loving it though
I'm actually looking forward to seeing what MEO (Middle Earth Online) pulls off... What can I say... I'm a die hard tolkien fan If they get it right it will kill all competition. If they don't get it right it will flop because, as everyone knows, tolkien fans are the worlds HARSHEST critics of anything that's put out with a Middle Earth title on it and doesn't meet expectations.
So far from what I've seen they're doing a fantastic job on it so I'm REALLY dying to get into MEO beta but it's not slated till LATE 2004 (and may get pushed back, which is fine, I'd rather it be late than rushed ).

Yo I got accepted for RYL....dat game is fun. Especially when you reach lvl 10...heh heh crazy. Ended I I long wait for WOW to come out cuz I think Blizzard makes the best games. I think they should have a Diablo 3 mmorpg y'know with the same dark settings as the other diablo's. Or a starcraft along the lines with Tribes 2 or Planetside. Anyways I agree with you guys on the points on Horizons. I mean it did lag a bit I was running the game on my laptop with a AMD Athlon XP and a video card equivalent to a Radeon 7000 with 512 mb, it ran suprisingly not so badd. And then I tried it on my PC with a Pentium 3, 384 mb Geforce Fx 5200 and it ran better. I got the fun out of it still. My brothers Magic User who was I believe lvl 20+ power leveled me to somewhere close to his lvl. And I fought along side with my Guild and grouping was actually ok. Crafting was fun and I heard that you can build houses and stuff. There was alot of classes you can choose to do and you can become more then one profession. I havent found a game where you can become a cleric and Warrior and etc.. Its pretty sweet. But yeh if what yall say is true and alot of people are leaving then oh well. There are still other games coming out soon that will beat it of course.

try none of the above.....too many people say horizons and shadowbane suck ..they cant all be wrong...and WoW will not be all that great...why? becasue its based on a RTS .....case closed. The hype is from WoW RTS fans do u really think an RTS game will translate into a MMORPG ?

dude your an idiot......you have obviously not seen alot of the screens posted on all these sites for one......
not looked up on any of the kick arse features......
1)flying mounts,buyable mounts,and boats and gob-zepplins
2)Multirewards for quest...you pick one of the multipule choices
3)weapon visual effects and I think on some other equpiment
4)craftinglike in horizons....you have to go out and mine/skin/pick everything you need from ores and metals...to herbs.....
5)Hero classes(Not confirmed yet)
I mean dude this game will crush all other MMORPG if not all then most.....just becasue you think it will suck does not mean it will you idiot.......this game will rock because it is mafde by a company who knows how to make really awsoem games and they know how to do it GOOD compared to some other companies try none of the above.....too many people say horizons and shadowbane suck ..they cant all be wrong...and WoW will not be all that great...why? becasue its based on a RTS .....case closed. Actually he's not necessarily wrong. If you haven't seen or played WOW it's only got *potential*. Right now from what I hear it's "awesome" but then people were saying that about Horizons during it's beta as well. And it sucks.
WOW has a TON of potential. But I'm not willing to say 'it'll crush everything else' or 'it'll be awesome' until after it comes out. Because I've seen FAR too many titles that everyone expected to be 'THE ONE' turn out to be worthless.
I'm hoping to get into WOW beta so I can try it out. But I'm not going to put too much stock in screenshots, etc.

Well its not only screens man......I am on more then one forums and everyone who has beta tested it said this game is the best...sayign it is so much fun and fighting actually has different set up for combos with your skills and all like a rouge has a skill to stun its opponent for i believe a mn or somthien then shile it is stunned you run behind it and back stab....
and I still liek the crafting system as said in horizons the whole fact where you have to harvest it all and stuff that is awsome man....
and el you never answered last time....
you have Aim or Aol?
"If you wish to taste the ground, then feel free to attack"
"If you wish to taste the ground, then feel free to attack"
I use Trillian to keep track of em so I can connect to all of 'em at once. It's off right now cuz I'm playing EVE at the moment.
And, everything you just said about WOW is true of UO, EQ, SWG, hmm AO.... hmm.... and several other games. Except that only UO has a crafting system like EVE/WOW at this point (But others are going to do it as well now, thank god)
Like I said, it sounds great, and it looks great, doesn't mean it IS great. Don't get your hopes up too far man, not worth getting 'em crushed if it doesn't live up to expectations

Well two things i learned from personal experaince....I am a huge fan of star wars and was really looking forward to playing star wars galaxies....look how that turned out..
and two i was a HUGE fan of master of orion series and followed the forums and how great all the beta testers said it would be only to get it and play it and find out it was crap too many bugs and just not fun anymore becasue of what they did to it.....u see beta testers have to tow the company line untill the game is released and cant tell u what they really think other than the good points; that and some of those beta testers had a very different idea than me on what i thought would make a good master of orion 3.
so a word of advice dont let the hype for a game drag u into loving it before it is even finnished....even if it turns out to be an ok game you will end up so disapointed with what u get that u will most likly end up hating it.
oh and t!dus most of those features u listed can be found in most other MMORPGS so what u have said so far leads me to beileve that the only diffrance is better eye candy.
I would definetely put my money into a copy of Horizons until they release WoW. At which point I personally will probably be playing both. Horizons is the best MMORPG that I have played yet. As far as complaints from others about performance issues...Make sure you have at least 512mb of ram and a decent video card and you should be good.
When I bought the game I had 256MB of ram and needed to upgrade.
I am a long time player of DAOC, Ultima Online, Earth and Beyond..To date Horizons is the best MMORPG that I have played yet. The crafting system is better, the combat system keeps you involved although it is much the same as DAOC's combat system. The thing I love the most about Horizons is the ways in which you can customize your character, with the multitude of schools/skills you basically can build a character to suit your style of player.
I am awating the release of WOW as I am a long time fan of anything developed by Blizzard Im sure it will be a great game too!!!

In a sense your right BUT!...I have not seen another MMORPG that has visual effects on weapons(this excluding D@,NWN,ETC) I am talking about MMORPGS like EQ onl;y one with visual effects are epics and like super Rare items.....
name another game with like Flying mounts you have to pay for to get to places, buyable mounts, and zepplin and boats with gambling on them(from what i heard)....name z game with all three fo those
the hero classes I canm understand cause they are just naming it "HERO" when it is really just prestiege classes.....
what mmorpg has quest with multy rewards???
I mean airtrooper you may think this game is gonna suck and all that but you know I think thisa game is gonna be awsome...I think it may be one of the best but you know I could be wrong but alwell.

Just to list a few: EverQuest (Tons of weapons with visual effects) DAOC AO AC2 UO Doesn't SWG also have em? Lightsabers Final Fantasy XI
And, in all of the above, visual affects are actually pretty common.

I would say Warcraft>Shadowbane>Horizons (WOW based on my beta experience, game feels solid, engine is pretty good and the story/lore will make for boundless RP potential for those who prefer it). Why? WoW is partially biased I'll admit because I'm a WC fan but as an MMORPG gamer I feel WoW will have excellent support (It's blizzard, they're good ) and the engine is spectacular, second best fighting system of all of the games I've played imo (#1 going to RYL, love that Savage-esque fighting). Shadowbane to me would be perfect if I could run my own server for it to get away from the many stooges and whiners who complain about it, I'd set up a small server for my friends in the area who play (my guild mates really...) and I'd just PvE because I loved the races and classes SB had to offer..playing as a minotaur, now that's nice, so daunting on the battle field to see a huge 9'+ minotaur with a huge halberd charging at you. Horizons to me, is a lot like shadowbane, good idea, poor execution. Though shadowbane's biggest flaws are more related to balance of the PvP and some minor technical issues. Horizons, however, suffers from "I was released too early" disease because there are things that were f'd in the beta that I still think are f'd today (some were mentioned in the MMORPG.com review ) For example, the lag is still pretty nuts and the method of closing your account is cracked, also the combat animation can be good but is laggy. IE I shoot with my bow and 2 seconds after the arrow strikes my enemy I see the result of my shot, not cool. Also, though it's only gfx, the paper looking weapons can be bothersome.
So, Horizons I'm glad I bought for $5.00 (plus 1.50 for shipping) because like shadowbane, it has interesting lore and races/classes, but needs help. Shadowbane was the first PvP oriented experience for me. I liked the races/classes and I read almost all of the lore, the combat was nifty too, the mouse driven interface was bad and the stamina system was a bit nuts but the rest of it was pretty good, other than not being careful (gotta watch out leaving safe hold with your level 20 warrior..could be a 50+ thief outside of town with a nice dagger for your back) WoW...well I am enjoying the beta but no one will know for sure until retail and beyond that....
So finally, I'd say get horizons if you have paitience, Shadowbane if you can put up with bugs (they're hammering down as many as they can but the forces of evil are a bit much for them, it is their first game though, wolfpack studios that is) Or wait for WoW if you can find something else to do if you're a WC fan. I'm playing RYL and Knight-Online at the moment, also I'm playing Onimusha Buraiden on my PS2. RYL is one of the best MMO experiences I've had yet, I like the whole game, but that's not what this thread is about. I'd say try the horizons trial, and if you really want to make it fun, the only way I found I could play for a prolonged time was joining a guild. An excellent guild of family-like players is Coven Nex, formerly of EQ fame on the Druzzil Ro server, they play on Twilight and they make Horizons a decent experience cheers to you CN.

"I can tell you love games jsut as much as I do or atleast I think you do but seriously I am also not argueing with you i am just statin gmy thoughts and opinions and if your gonna challange me with your thoughts and your opinions then I will jsut write back and back until you atleast see that my opinions are fair just as yours..."

So far from what I've seen they're doing a fantastic job on it so I'm REALLY dying to get into MEO beta but it's not slated till LATE 2004 (and may get pushed back, which is fine, I'd rather it be late than rushed ).

try none of the above.....too many people say horizons and shadowbane suck ..they cant all be wrong...and WoW will not be all that great...why? becasue its based on a RTS .....case closed. The hype is from WoW RTS fans do u really think an RTS game will translate into a MMORPG ?
I dont.
dude your an idiot......you have obviously not seen alot of the screens posted on all these sites for one......
not looked up on any of the kick arse features......
I mean dude this game will crush all other MMORPG if not all then most.....just becasue you think it will suck does not mean it will you idiot.......this game will rock because it is mafde by a company who knows how to make really awsoem games and they know how to do it GOOD compared to some other companies

AIM, ICQ and MSN
I use Trillian to keep track of em so I can connect to all of 'em at once. It's off right now cuz I'm playing EVE at the moment.
And, everything you just said about WOW is true of UO, EQ, SWG, hmm AO.... hmm.... and several other games. Except that only UO has a crafting system like EVE/WOW at this point (But others are going to do it as well now, thank god)
Like I said, it sounds great, and it looks great, doesn't mean it IS great. Don't get your hopes up too far man, not worth getting 'em crushed if it doesn't live up to expectations

All those bad things they say about Horizons? They're true.
Shadowbane is just too damn chaotic and unrefined. Both games are ridden with bugs.
WoW looks great, but I hear they're only going to release it when they find Hoffa. So that could be a while.
If EVE wasn't about flying around in a spaceship all the time, it could be a pretty good game.
My advice, stick to the old ones like AC and EQ -or Daoc if you're a high lvl-, until something decent actually comes out.
AC (retired); EQ (retired); DAoC (retired); Horizons (retired); EQII (retired); CoH (retired); AC II (tested); Lineage II (beta); Neocron (tested); Saga of Ryzom (beta); SWG (retired)...
Shadowbane sucks...

"If you wish to taste the ground, then feel free to attack"
"If you wish to taste the ground, then feel free to attack"
Just to list a few:
EverQuest (Tons of weapons with visual effects)
DAOC
AO
AC2
UO
Doesn't SWG also have em? Lightsabers
Final Fantasy XI
And, in all of the above, visual affects are actually pretty common.

Like I said in EQ mostly just epics have visual effects and I have only seen a few other with visual effects some common amongst people.....
2 never played AC or AC2....and in SWG I never played it long effect to get the sabers so I wouldn't knwo about that...
DAoC did yea but nothign really special from what I saw.....only likke a sword with a radiateing color
Same with UO never played it much to see any effects....
and I think I saw one or two on FFXI can't rememer tho.....I was only a 10 war/10 mnk/6thf
