Looking for a new game.

I've been playing Dark Age of Camelot. It's a nice game and all, but it's on it's way out. I'm not saying it will close down anytime soon...i'm saying the player-base is falling, theres not enough players on the servers. Especially when you consider that the players are divided between 3 realms on each server and many of the online toons are actually bots. If there were fewer servers it might still be fun, but anyway...

I'm looking for a game that actually has a steady or rising number of players, decent pvp, and not too much cheating goin on. Is it a lost cause, or does such a game actually exist?

Once again Vice Man is here for all your MMORPG answers.  Lets see you're looking for a game thats pvp, has a rising population, and has not to much cheating...  Well let me tell you Chullhuxx, such a game, as of yet, doesn't not exist.  However if you are wiling to wait a few months I do have one suggestion.

The game, World of Warcraft.  The reasons being that you, comming from DAOC, have had experance with the type of combat, and pvp that WOW, (World of Warcraft), is emplimenting.  Of course there will be some changes, such as the combat has been speed up and there are only two realms instead of three, Allinace and Hoard.  But almost all of those changes I think that both you and I can agree are for the better and there is nothing like going into a MMORPG and already being fimilair with the way things work.

Secondly, WOW, no mater what some people might post and say, is the number one anticipated MMO of this year.  If you doubt me you can check any of the polls, and there are numours polls, on this sight.  All of them have at least 30 percent of the people. who are anticipating a NEW mmorpg. are waiting for World of Warcraft.  The next highest game is City of Hereos and that game only has about 17 percent.  The game is a MMORPG juggernaut, with a population thats supposed to rivial DAOC at LAUNCH.  As far as rising populations are concerned you can't hardly beat that.

I know it's not said in your post, but I know I"m sick of endlessly killing the same monster over and over again.  World of Warcraft attempt to alievate that suffering, buy making the primary means of leveling quest baised.  This means that you, as a character, don't have to deal finding a toppinling the same mob over and over again, so that some point in your life time you might actually get to see a keep long enough to take it.

There is no telling how this game is going to be as far as cheating is concerned, but I do know from what I've read, blizzard is making every effort to control the cheating levels in it's population.  People who do cheat will be activily sought out and banned.

Finaly I don't ask you to just take my word for it, please by all means seek out beta tester journals.  I have yet to see a MMORPG get such good feedback from everyone who's involved.

If WoW doesn't strike your fancey or you can't wait more than a few months then you might try Lineage II, which isn't all that good on the pve side, but has some of the best pvp ever.  Or may I suggest just switching to the Merlin server, Albion realm, the numbers there are actually on the rise, and players are fun and helpful.

    Hope you found this informative,

Vice Man:  Are you kdding, you thought dark age had problems with botting.  RO has only about thirty percent of it's players behind the wheel at any given time. I mean at least buff bots have a player chilling around somewhere!

    Knight Online:

    A LOT of players....I haven't Tested PvP Neither.....No Cheats

    Vice man:

Yes lots of anti socail players who don't speak english.  Of the ones that do, most of them wouldn't life a finger to help you out, even if their lives depended on it.  Oh and you can expect a huge population drop the moment this game stops being a free open beta.

    Good graphics...

    Vice Man:

While they're not bad, they're also not up to industry standered.

    Mu Online:

A lot of players either....Mmmm...I don't know if it have PvP...No Cheats

Vice Man:  Lets just say that moving to MU Online, from Dark Age of Camelot would inflict damage to your brain equivialnt to shoving a banna through a meat grinder.

I don't mean to get down on you man, you attempted to answer his question, which is more than most people can say, but he didn't ask what games you where playing, he asked what game he should play given these perticular features.  You really should taken into consideration what people are looking for before you post an answer.

    I have another question Vice.

WoW sounds like a good game except for one thing...the pvp.

Everyone seems to assume it will have some kind of RvR like DAOC, but i don't see that info on the site. I've heard rumors that it may not have any kind of pvp at all at launch.

So my question is: Will there be PvP and/or RvR at launch, and will the game be geared towards that? Or will 90% of the population never participate in the pvp...like some arena-dueling BS?

Thanks for your first response, btw.

Well I could tell you, but why would I waste all of the time typing when I could just have blizzard tell  you in it's own words.  image

    That definately answers my questions.

The only thing WoW needs now is some form of points or progressive rewards for kills/victories in pvp and rvr. But it does say they're still working on that.

If the pvp plays out like they describe it, this game should blow daoc out of the water.

I have another suggestion for you Cthulxx, Anarchy Online it has kept me hooked for some time now there is quite some pvp with the tower wars and arena. So if your up to it join a side and bring it to control all Notum on Rubika. And there is many ways to play. Sure its sci-fi but a good one at that. I hope you atleast check it out or you will be missing out on something. Anyways goodluck to ya finding your new game image.

Depends what you're lookin for. DarkSpace has a small community but GREAT pvp and inter-ship combat... if you're lookin for something scifi. However, if you're goin for fantasy, I'd wait on Guild Wars if I were you... Guild Wars is gonna own (no monthly fee, baby).

DarkSpace is great for the pvp and teamwork side of things, plus it has a huge universe that you get to play in.

I will have to take a look at the Guild Wars one.. Got a linky anywhere?

I'm waiting on X-The Online Universe, although there is still no due date for it yet...

    *waits impatiently*

Agreed - if you're looking for a strick PvP game then you should definately give Darkspace a lookover :)

If you want to stick to the fantasy era though, I'd recommend giving Asherons Call 2 a lookover - the devs have cleaned up a LOT, fixed 99% of the bugs & all that. Check it out - they give a free trial for 15 days & a free download off the turbine site IIRC...
