Unreal 3 Engine!!!!

SithtigerSithtiger Member UncommonPosts: 15
Ya know I was looking forward to two MMORPG's coming out.  Star Trek Online and Stargate Worlds.  As far as shows go, I like the Star Trek shows better, but I always thought in terms of gameplay Stargate would seem to offer more.

Since I can't afford to play both games, I have to choose one.  I was already leaning towards Stargate Worlds, but after seeing what game engine it will use, it's almost a done deal for me.  Of course graphics aren't everything, but if SGW even plays half as good as it looks, I feel it will be ranked #1 quite easily.  If the gameplay sucks, the game will too, but I'm hoping since Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment is spending the massive royalties on licensing the Unreal 3 engine, it's going to put allot of work on the game as well.

I don't know what Star Trek Online is using for a game engine, but I just don't see it competing with SGW's, even if it used the Unreal 3 engine.  I don't know....only time will tell, but I have high hopes for SGW's!  I hope I'm not disappointed....it's a long way to fall from my expectations!  image

I didn't vote, as I'm watching both development's. I am hopefull for both, and yet concerned by both.

STO: with Federation only, and lot's of emphasis on forced grouping ( ship bridge durring combat as example )

SG-W: due to a return to lvl based, over free form skill development

Have to watch and see how they progress, but i'm leaning to SG-W

SWTOR. Face it, in the Scooby Doo Mystery Solving Van of coolness, this game is Velma. In this current MMO climate it has about as much chance for survival as a group of inquisitive teenagers in a 1980s slasher flick. -Tardcore May, 2011

I will go for Stargate, it's just more appealing to me and the show,
books and movie are pretty neat. I'm a fan of both while not being a
Junky but I do think that Stargate will offer something closer to my
    taste.

And think about it, Atlantis is going to be a good expansion. Star Trek
feels recycled a bit but might offer a very unique gameplay.

Time will tell.. until then, i'll be on Vanguard looking at the stars and hoping to one day fly again :P

I hear ya....SGW's is going to be simply breathtaking since it's using the Unreal 3 engine.  I mean think about it, there are NO PC games as of yet that use the Unreal 3 engine....but soon.  That said, I think gameplay is 60%, while graphics are 40%.  Just think, the game will look better than any FPS game out there (or just as good if you compare it to 360 and PS3 games which already use the Unreal 3 engine) while having MMO elements!

I'm a huge FPS game and I like RTS and simulation games too, but for me FPS is king.  I'm looking for a really good MMO that I can sink my teeth into.  I played WoW for a while, but got bored very quickly.  I was doing pretty good, I just lost interest unfortunately.  I need a game that I'm already interested in the premise rather than just playing a game because millions of other people are playing it too.

I can't wait to try both STO and STW, but I really like Stargate Worlds has more going for it and more potential.  Then there's the awful track record of Star Trek games too, they just all suck really.  Maybe STO will break this ugly trend.  I'll still only be able to play one though and I'm guessing it will be SGW, but we'll have to wait and see.

Why must you only choose 1 or the other? Stargate will probably not come out until around 2 years after Star Trek does. So play Star Trek when it comes out this next year and then Play Stargate when it comes out in 2-3 years or whenever it does. Last I heard it was slated for 2008-2009 .. so thats not soon at all.

That's exactly what I would do, but if both games are out, I'll only be able to choose one or the other and right now I think SGW's is the one that looks more interesting despite me being an avid Star Trek fan.  I like both SG-1 and Atlantis too, but as far as games go I think SGW's has much more potential.

Stargate is high instance action mmo.  As much as I like Stargate I need more deph, so I vote Startrek.

Cryptor....most of stargate is about exploration and meeting new cultures. Dont tell me the majority is action and killing. Expect non-combat content in this game.

I think both games will have great strengths. I am looking forward to both.  I love space and I love ground games. So this may be a hard choice for me.   I like both titles. I guess it also depends on the guild I belong to- plus it all depends on how Eve Online play sout in te next 2 years with avatars.  Maybe I will quit my job and play all of t hem!

I like the Star Trek movies and TV shows better, but it seems like Stargate lends itself much better to an MMO.  As someone else said, I hope both are good games, in which case I'll play both, but I bet Stargate will be better simply because the IP seems like such a perfect fit for a fun MMO.

You should take alook at this mmorpg it has some fps elements and it also use the Unreal Engine. This game is a mmorpg set in a vast world and will also feature Shard Conquest.Items will not really mean much as in WOW-EQ style and combat is done through a Skill Deck.

The good thing about this mmorpg is that its going gold in two months time and final beta is only days days away plus Open Beta is not far off.

I would have liked to have a neither or both option.

I might try both, but for now SGW looks better. I also was let down when they said it would be level based.

STO appears to be a bit borning, but with both games still a while from release, you can't really tell yet.

Star Trek looks like it will be a proffessional polished and interesting game, Stargate looks like a rushed idea to cash in on a current trend. Star Trek has 30 years of fans, all of who have been screaming for a decent game they can live in since the dawn of the PC, Star Gate has a large fanbase, but not a dedicated addicted fanbase (or at least no where near as big), as there were so many shows that came out before during and after the SG series.

If I were to ask the average gamer, or person who picks up games on a whim from a shop, if they have heard of Stargate, they wont know what your talking about, but EVERYONE knows and has seen Star Trek. Everyone can quote Kirk, everyone can do the Vulcan V hand sign. Star Trek is the daddy of Sci-Fi shows (with Dr Who as the Grandfather :P) and becuase of this it will out sell a Stargate MMO if it is done well.

But of course, Stargate is an untested PC property. So no one knows what will happen. Star Trek (much like Starwars) has been a best selling PC property for years, so is a proven seller.

From personal experience, having asked my guild their views (100+ MMO fans) they all said they wanted Star Trek to be out now, and but werent that bothered about SG (and most are SG fans lol).

well i oviouslly voted for sgw because there will be more action, cause in sto your in a ship flying around in groups that sounds boring but take nothing away from star trek it might make a good mmo

Why does it have to be either/or when no one has tried them yet? I won't say which one I'll play now. Probably I'll try both and then make my decision later.
