Horror and Gothic Horror....
Fantasy has been done...redone...redonedone...you get the drift.
Science fiction. Plenty out there and plenty more to come.
I want Horror. Spine tingling, chilling gothic horror where I can be a vampire, Werewolf, Succubbi, Demon or on the opposite end a vampire slayer etc.
City of Heroes introduced us to the superhero genre. I'd like a decent name and producer to pick up the horror genre. If you build it and build it wel...they will come.

I'd love to see a horror mmo but they'd have to keep it from being just another zombie fps.
Make a difference!
I'd too love to see a horror themed mmo. The closest I've come to one has to be Resident Evil Outbreak 1 & 2.
I'm a zombie nut though .
Would love to hook up with a group trying to survive in zombie ravaged city after city, going from point a to point b. Making a compound, reinforcing the compound. Finding weapons/food/etc. Dealing with different factions whether they be military/government, power hungry, people who evolved into more tribe-like states.
Maybe a Cthulu themed mmo would be interesting too.
Current Games:
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

War does not determine who is right!, war determines who is left!
And my character name will be BuffyTheVampSlayer1039!
Nah, just kidding. The horror stuff sounds fun, especially if it supports a Ventrilo function. I'd love to scare the living daylight out of my party by screaming at a timed moment.
Besides, knowing the genre I'm expecting more names based off on the Resident Evil series.
Well SOME zombies isn't bad actually.
But like way too many is.
I wouldn't care if zombies where like some lvl 15 creature that I'll never see agian when I reach lvl 30.
I mean diversity is good.
Those who underestimate the power of the human spirit are destined to fail...
The thing with horror is to make you scared, right? I can't imagine that MMO actually continously scares you all day/everyday. Some singleplayer games have been scary (Resident Evil)...
Or do just mean the "horror theme", not the scary part.
Actually, I mean both. The romanticism/eroticism of various horror themes (vampires, etc) as well as the actual scary part of the horror genre. Suspense and scary on the order of the Ravenloft series (to pick just one).
This is a very wide category so you could do a lot with it. Incorporate aspects that would appeal to a lot of various horror fans.

Its astonishing that most of the new games, and those in develpment are still fantasy based
There's another genre developers are missing: The Western.
Would love to see a Western MMORPG.
Actually there has also been quite a bit of your horror and gothic, but i am not sure if you are limiting this genre to vampire only or undead??Where and what type of game would you rank >>>DOOM/Quake?to me they are sci-fi horror combined and are very good games.
First thing that pops into my head is that you can only do so little with a vampire/undead only type game.Fantasy opens up a much larger can of worms because you have healers/nukes/tanks/damage dealers and all these classes have tons of different manouvers and ideas behind them.Trying to incorporate a healing vampire or a nuking vampire just sounds so unrealistic and wouldn't appeal to me or prolly not many others. So you can see how something as simple as this really limits a gothic/horror type game.
I have played on short time spans quite a few gothic or horror type games over my years, and havn't really seen one good one, unless you want to throw doom and quake into the thrall.,but alot might only rank these as sci-fi.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

No it's not enough said. The genre itself is way to limited to ever be an mmorpg, if anything it will be a hybrid of horror and fantasy, else what hell will they do. There is only so many "horror" type creatures out there.
offtopic: well accually there are some horror games, but i dont know any western type games. i'd accually play a western type game or at least try it since i havent played one before.
Horror and fantasy are the same in my book. I would definitely like to
see darker games that concentrate on vampires, zombies and stuff like
that.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

The MMO gaming blog I write for.
yeah, why not ?
as long as it stays interesting
I could see a Horror based MMO made very easily, if it uses some already established systems... namely: a "cut" that keeps the realm of light away from the realm of darkness (we'll assume theres a good side, with good, "normal" people in it, and a bad side, with the vampires, wolves, etc. in it) seperated in a way. To what extend (or in case of full scale, home-zone, non-consentual PVP: not at all) is debatable. Examples would be CoH/CoV's or DAoCs systems.
Then there's classes, this'd be real hard to do if you did it skill based, because the realm of the occult and other nightly creatures skills, compared to what you could add on the human side without totally alienating horror fans, is rather vague. Ideally you'd have something like a neutral starter class (say, Mage), that later at some point chooses sides. (And becomes a goodsider Wizard, who does research on the darkness and fights it spawns) or a Sorcerer (an evil, insane, power-driven magicmen fighting alongside vampires). Similar standard class categories apply (Cleric/Cultist, Templar/Werewolf, Hunter/Vampire). As you can judge by the names, this would most likely take place in a gothic environment, and not modern day.
Speaking of day.... here comes one point in a horror MMO that can either make or break the game completely...
Daytime and Nighttime...... This OUGHT to have a huge impact on the outcome of battles between the two sides, or even massively limit them in their abilities. There'd have to be a way to implement this either in a fair way, or maybe create a different, balanced platform. (Say, PVP between sides taking place at dusk and dawn, in a state of twilight, with no side dominant).
What will most likely keep people away from such a game is it still being too "fantasy" (because of the gothic setting that allows for mages and stuff, or however the Day/Nighttime, aswell as PVP, is implemented....
Now, WhiteWolf and CCP..... we do know that CCP does a great job at EVEs PVP and at the handling of areas aligned to different factions, which makes a possible WhiteWolf MMO look rather promising.
On the other hand, CCP created EVE, they didnt have to stick to any canon.... yet in horror theres very restraining canon (constantly feeding off other peoples blood is quite a strain on a character, compared to "fantasy" MMOs, aswell as turning into a puny human unless its full moon if you happen to be a "classic" werewolf), so i'm unsure as to how they'd handle that, or handle it at all, though by doing that they'd probably lose the core fanbase of horror, making the whole thing obsolete.
The idea in itself is very, very promising though.
