Those minimum specs might launch the game, but you may as well try to play a screenshot. The recommended is actually a lot closer to the minumum you need to get anything close to 'acceptable' framerates.

Very true. I've read in the Reviews that Vanguard is a RAM hog.

When you say that, are you taking into account the optimization that they'll do before release?  I know right off, that during a beta, they have a lot of programming to track things about the system that strongly affects frame rates.  Every game has been like that when doing a beta.

I have no clue about my sound card.  Does the above quote mean just a new graphics card?  My comp plays EQ2 with no problem with a setting of high performance.

It's beta, ok granted. But release is getting closer and closer. Optimization is not just throwing in a few lines of code and voila! It's one of the things that take alot of time.

This was said by the dev team, 02/11/2006, "Performance is bad, we know this. It needs far more attention and is being worked on constantly."

I would say it's still not better. Specially if your computer is not the greatest.

Not very true. There are always tweaks, especially to the unreal engine, that you can do to get much better framerates even while in beta. Tons of them, in fact. Also, a great deal of optimization will occur between now and release. Not to mention that you don't have to play the game on the highest settings, there are sliders so that you can play with great framerates on even the minimum required system.

Of course, to make it look its best you will have to have the recommended or better system. For which game has this not been true? Even WoW won't look its best on the minimum required system.

Eventually you're going to not be buying any game at all as more and more companies go for the bleeding edge.  You're still probably safe with Blizzard though for another 10 years.
