Wreckage , wtf!

RattrapRattrap Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,599

Yesterday i did a mission in which i had to destroy over 100 pirate ships.

New thing is , every ship leaves wreckage. Which is cool ... but...

Before ship was leaving a box if there was a cargo inside , or nothing.

Now every ship leaves wreckage, that might have cargo...but usualy it doesnot.

I lost over two hours driving from wreckage to wreckage, searching for cargo.
When only one in 10 had anything inside. But there is no way to know...

Now this was tedious as hell on a warm day.

So what do you guys say? Worth it, or not?

Any workaround?

No workaround that i know of, but if you train up the Salvage skill you can get a little extra from the wreckage and it disappears once salvaged as well. Saying that, i tested my salvage skill on some basic asteroid belt MOB's and got something from salvage every time, but on a mission where i killed several MOBS, i got nothing at all from salvage. Go Figure!!

It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.

Supposedly the new patch that went in yesterday addresses this.  "looted" wreaks are now different from "non-looted" ones.  I don't do missions so I don't know if "empty" wreaks share the 'looted' look or if you have to open them first or not.

    I can confirm.

Looted wrecks are now greyed out

What about empty wrecks in missions?  (That you haven't opened yet)
Or do you still have to open them to flag them as 'looted'?  If so it's nice for folks out ratting or PVP'ing but for mission runners it still means they have to check every single wreck where, before, they only got cans from about 10-15% of the ships destroyed now you get wrecks from 100% of ships destroyed but only 10-15% have loot in them.  So approx 85-90% longer to loot in missions.

I don't do missions so I honestly don't know.  And I forgot to ask in game last night.

All wrecks are white until opened.

Quite a bummer i say. I checked 100 wrecks yesterday - took me 2 hours. And only 10 or less had loot inside

Tractor beam ftw! Additionally if you are doing level 1 missions I would not worry about the loot that much. You are better off getting 3 missions done then spending time loot them (unless you can actually salvage them).

OH one thing to note, you are just as likely to pull off a piece of salvage from a frig as a BS. But I have not heard of anyone sucessfully salvaging anything from a mission wreck.

However ratting, you will get the same salvage from 5 npc frigs that you would get from 5 npc BS.

At least as far as salvaging in EVE is conserned, Size does not matter. image

    Of wreck that is.

My corp has been doing some testing.  It seems that in missions you get more salvage from ships that don't drop loot.  We only have a sample of a hundred or so ships but it does seem that if you get loot from the wreck that it is less likely to drop salvage.

from personal experience i salvaged rig components out of wrecks both in missions and belts so far.... even some structures in the missions left wrecks and some (albeit few) netted rig components as well. that said, the only wrecks i have never ever gotten anything from with salvaging have been rogue drone and sentry gun wrecks.

I agree, it is VERY tedious.

This is a brand new feature desinged around "Riggins".  The wrecks are salvagable and produce materials that are then used for production of a rig (all ships have rigging slots).  The rig is like an implant on your ship although once attached it cannot be removed.

The "wreck" in space has problems.  We can expect that it will be changed to prevent everyone from ignoring wrecks due to the rediculous amount of time it can take to gather/check the loot.

We used to have a "can" that would appear if there was loot and when you removed all the loot the can would "pop" with a cool little animation.

You should post your opinions, no matter how broad they are, regarding the negatives of looting while a new player running missions.  I personally think this "wreck" thing is a double edged sword that could turn off players more then get them excited.

p.s.  Most players ignore the loot from those lvl 1 missions anyways.  I do.  It always has been an excesive amount of time reclaiming the loot.  See Tractor Beam.

I get the same problem, if I keep going through the wreckage and I don't get anything out of the first 10 or so checks, I just say forget it and move on.

There is a patch coming on Wednesday that will let you filter between barren wrecks and intact wrecks on the overview, in addition to increasing the drop amount of salvage materials, plus other updates. No definitive patch notes yet (they will get posted this weekend), but it looks like the update will contain fixes that address most of the player concerns and responses to the Revelation patch.

You also might want to invest in a ship just for salvaging.  Use a couple of tractors and salvagers.  I right now just BM the wrecks complete missions and refit my Raven with 4 tractors and 4 Salvagers.  I am hoping the increase the salvage from the wreck though. image

I leave most of it behind.  It is a waste of time except for certain missions and nameds.  Asteroid rats in 0.0 I do attempt to loot though.  If I am going to loot a mission, I BM a wreck and come back later with my hauler and some tractor beams.  As far as rigs are concerned, I am not interested in them.  To put a rig on a ship of mine is too high a risk for reward since I am not a billionaire.

Well, the new patch now greys out the wreckage symbol so at least you know which wrecks you have searched.  Makes it a lot easier.  The first week, however, I took to destroying the wreckage after looting it, which, needless to say, used up a lot of ammo and time.

And, if you can't see the grey-out properly, you can form a gang with yourself and tag each wreck after searching it.  You'll have to set the tag column to the first column of your display if it isn't already there.
