I think the topic pretty much sums it up. I think the choices were EVE and WoW? Not to say WoW should win but certainly it's in a whole other class than EVE. I think anyone who's really played EVE in addition to other mmo's would be hard pressed to disagree that EVE PVE ranks among the worst ever. I'm not sure it's really a suprise since EVE is basically the only game telling their players to stack the polls on their front page. Pvp? Yes, it's pretty decent...but PVE?? You have to be kidding... bring on the fanbois...

Player V Enemy can also mean player V enviroment. I'm no fan of EVE by anymeans though I do perfer Player V enviroment more than enemy so it won there unfourtantly

.... granted there are better PvE in both catagories compared to EvE.

you do have a point though EvE does have very bad Player vs Enemy though.

I played EVE for long time, and I enjoyed it a lot, but I do think this is slightly ridiculous. I'm not trashing EVE players, I had fun when I was there, but EVE players need to understand that it is a niche game. It always has been and always will be. No clue what's behind this kind of rabid fanboi-ism, but it seems like a lot of EVE players feel like they have to validate the game, like they have to prove something. Settle down, it's a good game, but it's never going to appeal to a mass audience, no matter how many awards it gets.

All I'm asking for is someone to come here and explain why they think EVE deserves best pve. I voted for it in most other categories too, it's a great game and I loved the pvp, but I would like to see someone make a logical argument about why it should win in this particular category. I don't think voting is rigged or anything, but I do think EVE players are very passionate about the game, more so than many other mmo's, and that may translate into unusual circumstances on this site. Like I said, someone explain why they think EVE's pve is the best of the best and I'll gladly listen.

I am an eve player, and i have to agree that PVE in eve sucks.

But there are some that play eve purely to PVE, and get pretty pissed off when you introduce them (violently) to the fun that can be had in PVP

I can understand why people want to mine (the most boring thing possible in eve), but not why they want to PVE.
For me, i would rather mine than PVE, but i would only ever do either for a quick cash injection, and PVE is easyer for that.

But i am guilty of voting for eve to win the PVE award.
This is only because i voted in the finals, and it was between EVE and WoW.
WoW is such a disgusting excuse of a MMO that couldnt vote for it.

O wait there is a poll like that, its called subscription numbers? WoW got 7 million votes, go figure.

Here's a wild thought. Maybe the developers should be spending more time improving thier game instead of spending so much time fooling people with polling? Maybe then they could actually get more people to play them. But I suppose thats too much to ask.

yes, because these polls are popularity votes. just like wow gamers voted wow to have the best PvP, and saga of ryzom folks voted it to have the best graphics.. etc.

im more amazed that this surprises people. have you looked at the game ratings on this site lately? Newsflash: Eve has lead the game ratings consistanly for as long as I can remember. do you really think someone who plays eve, saga of ryzom, guild wars is going to vote for WoW as having the best PvE? WoW which isnt even in the top 10 anymore

EVE makes 1 post on their own private boards, and you scream setup, WoW, spend MILLIONS per year on advertising, market research and other related crap, and even with their 7mil player base can not beat the 'niche' game.

No, no it's not. The opinions represented in the awards are the opinions of all the EVE players coming over due to the sticky on the main page, and all of their alternate accounts, which I'm sure numbers in the thousands. To say it's EVERYONE's opinion would be to imply that WoW, EQ2, GW, etc etc also gave significant attention to the contest, which didn't (and won't) happen.

The EVE players are also free to speculate why this is, or even try to pretend it doesn't matter, but in reality, it means that this contest is worthless, and the only people who care are the ones who win.

EDIT: I'd also like to clarify that I'm not trying to say it isn't fair, just that it's not unbiased.

You want real awards that developers might actually care about professionally? Try the IGDA or Gamasutra. This is nothing but a popularity contest on a single site.

Most on MMORPG.com are either WoW or EVE fanboys. This is why they are always the finalists in every category every year. Has nothing to do with what they think is better, or if they have even played both.

Again with the multiple accounts BS. It's getting tiring repeating this over and over. If EVE players were creating multiple accounts to boost the games ratings it would have more ratings than WoW does, likely by 10's of thousands of ratings. It does not. Stop trying to use that shit excuse for why your pet game isn't at the top.

You are a tool gameloading, lets examine this from a developers standpoint shall we and not some jaded koreacrap mmo fans viewpoint. EvE is produced by CCP who is in the industry to in the end make money, now I am sure they want to make a quality product that appeals to thier target audience but at the end of the day they really only care about money. Which is as it should be to be honest. Now with that in mind these MMORPG awards represent free marketing and another place where the EvE name appears thus increasing thier exposure. With increaased exposure and even more awards to list on thier site they have the chance to attract new players and new players equal more subscription fee's which means more money for CCP which is afterall thier goal.

Now that we know thier motivations it's easy to see why they would sticky something like that, I mean hell what dev wouldn't it's free marketing you take that wherever you can get it. In the end ethics and your own useless yet oft spouted commentary means nothing at the end of the day the dollar or kronar or peso does.

CCP isn't anything special. Like SOE, EA/Mythic, Farlan, NCSoft, and all the others, they only care about money. They only care about players, the fansites, and everything else only insofar as it helps them make money.

I'm not trying to say that CCP is more slimey than other MMO providers. I'm trying to say that CCP is about as slimey, money-grubbing, and dishonest as any other MMO provider, ie, pretty damn slimey.

They are not worthy of the pedestal their fanbois place them on.
