Firefly MMORPG

KellorKellor Member UncommonPosts: 80

I just read an article on SCIFI.com stating that there may be a Firefly MMORPG in the works.

I'm interested what they come up with, taking the ideas from SWG and their own will probably make it a huge hit. Of course if this is done right.

I also read this article on the multiverse website.

    Looks interesting.

If it is done right, and the fanbase isn't too small, it migth survive a flop. Here's to hoping!

Though I think it was a decent series, I don't see it making it as a MMO.

I really liked the series, and the movie too. A Sci-Fi, Western mix for an MMO sounds pretty good. There were quite a few planets in the series visited, and a good mix of technologies.  I think, I would really enjoy something like that, if done correctly.  In otherwords keep $OE away from it.

I hope this MMO turns out good. The movie and Series are excellent. It's a shame that they had to cancel the series.

I really loved Firefly. It would certainly be interesting to play as one of the Pirates, the Imperial guys or the evil mutants (forget what they are called). Mostly though, I loved the way the ships were designed, the architecture was on the different planets, and just the overall feel of the whole universe. It seems kind of cliche', with the whole "bad guys" being the good guys, and the Imperials as evil, but the way they executed it in the series was top notch. I think with a good developer, and DX 10, this could become a very promising MMO

They do have a forum section over at the multiverse site however, I'm not gonna bother hanging out there because I don't feel like reading multiple thread pages and debating about how the mmo mechanics should be done and how it should be 100% radically different from all of the mmos.

I'll check it out when the game goes into beta.

Could you post a link to that forum section? It would be interesting to read more about the ideas they are spinning on.

I guess there is no official site for the game in progres yet...

I'm a really big Firefly fan.

However, Joss Whedon (creater of Firefly) has nothing to do with the Firefly MMORPG and it looks like the mmorpg is primarily FOX trying to make money off the Firefly franchise by creating a game based on a show they cancelled and have no desire to bring back.

    "Whosoever shed last blood
By man shall his blood be shed
For immunity of God make he the man
Destroy all that which is evil
So that which is good may flourish
And I shall count thee among my favored sheep
And you shall have the protection of all the angels in Heaven."

I agree with your concerns over the game being done by Fox and not Whedon himself.  I don't agree with concerns about Fox and their lack of desire to bring the show back.  At this point I think there's more ego at play than anything else.  Even Universal left it at just a movie and not picking the very expensive series up.

The bottom line, however, is that it's a game based on the show.  I'm very into that, regardless of who's in the designer seat.  And if it's good, it's good.  If it's a flop, we'll all know soon enough.

What I hope, like many other disgruntled former SWG players, is that the designers of Firefly make the game about "your own story" in the Firefly universe.  No Mal clones, no multiple Jayne's running around.

Even further, I wish someone would bring back profession dabbling like UO and SWG had.  All I can do is wait, though, and that's something I'm patiently doing.

you know i don't see how they could make an MMO about this. There isn't enough of any info that would regard to a MMO

Well the series had a well established technology perspective,

A form of government with all the details hammered out

A well thought out plot line

Visual examples of technology and dress

There could be a whole lot of information on firefly that never got released due to it being canned in a year.

I would assume it would kinda be like a MMO Privateer

Everyone starting at the botom and working their way up.

I can't see it working without a heavy emphasis on factions and pvp tho.

So little is known about Firefly that the developers have quite a bit of creative liscence to do what they want.

And if they get some of the people who worked on Firefly involved it could turn out to be very cool.

I'm incline to agree, if fans are wanting more perhaps they should push for a new movie release.

I think the Firefly universe makes great fodder for a MMO.  It has a built in fanbase; iconic names, places, and events; but all of that is loose enough to let developers create their own agendas.

I'm looking forward to see what happens.

    - How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?

    - I don't know, but some people without brains do an awful lot of talking, don't they?

is anything happening?  i haven't heard a peep about this in almost a year.

I highly doubt 1 year to complete this mmo is a good timeframe. It'll either be pushed back or turn out unpolished. I would love to see a Firefly type mmo, but only if it's done right. Freelance Sandbox type please!!!

    Necro'd

    BUT FOR AN AWESOME CAUSE.

Please, does anyone have anymore information about this?

I'm not saying they should be done by now, I am just saying that a year has passed and no new news seemes to have been released on this.  No forums, no website, no news releases, nothing.  You'd think that if this was actually happening that they would have put something out.

I doubt the game if it happens will be ready before 2010.

Sometimes no news can be considered to be good news.  Maybe they aren't saying anything so that it won't get over hyped.  Here are some links relating to the subject.

There might be more out there, but I haven't searched very deeply.

I can't wait to see what they say, when they say it.

Ridiculous.  To think that you can go out and 'hire a team' and slap together a MMORPG in less than a year just shows how far out of touch with reality this is.

What you are really seeing, I believe, is a poorly disguised marketing gimic by the makers of the MMO tool to garner free publicity and hype for their product by 'announcing' or 'leaking' a 'news' story that they 'may' have acquired the rights to a short-lived and now dead Sci-Fi IP.

    Seems to have worked.

We haven't seen the works, so we really can't say whether it can be made or not.

Yeah I think all that news is at least 11 months old.
