How many GW players here enjoy PVE more than PVP?

BattleFelonBattleFelon Member UncommonPosts: 483

So, I realize that with 400+ hours played, I've spent less than 100 of those hours in PVP (I'm close to friend of the kurzicks title but have only run a few HA runs and have never fought in a top 1000 GVG). I've always been a fan of action rpgs, and Guild Wars PVE brings me back to the glorious days of Diablo 2 and Dungeon Siege hack-and-slash.

The other day a buddy was harassing me, saying someone who spends most of their time playing PVE in a PVP-centric title like Guild Wars is the equivalent of someone picking up the Battlefield series for a single player experience.

Yet in most outposts/town centers I don't see many people with maxxed out gladiator or hero titles (the highest I usually see is like rank 5) so I know I'm not alone in being a more dedicated PVE player and casual PVPer. Only when I occasionally go to HA do I see people with high PVP rank, leading me to believe there is a far larger group of PVE lovers in GW than most people would expect.

Anyone else feel like I do - or should I stop wasting my time playing "kiddie PVE" and do some "real man PVE raiding" WOW-style (quoted from rabid WOW fanboi friend).

I would guess most people that play GWs have spent more time doing PvE.  The now if you look at people that are currently playing 20+ hours a week that would likely change a bit.

I think it's very easy to get burned-out on GW pve. This is why you see so many complaints on the Fansites. People don't dislike the game, they just play it too damn much. Unlike classic MMOs, where there's a constant rush to the next level, next piece of gear, next spell...GW just has its finite content that's repeated over and over.

I started pvp in GW very late (maybe after 300-400 hours), and that added new life to the game. For my pve-fix, I'm currently playing that other MMO. Taking a break from GW pve is, I reckon, a good idea for those that play a lot.

That is why I said it would be different for people that play 20+ hours.  I think GWs has more casual players 0-<20 hours and I would gander they play more PvE then PvP.

I would also think that if you looked at the games total "played" PvE and PvP hours PvE would have more hours played.

I say you should ask your friend who exactly bought your game.  When people tell me i'm not playing a game like I should be then I ask them if they bought it or if I did.  The answer is always me.  That entitles me to play any game I want to play the way that I wish to play it.  This came up with FFXI.  My friend, like yours, was harassing me because I wont get into parties much and i'm solo'ing more.  I quite bluntly asked him "Did you buy my game or me?  Who pays the monthly fees?  Until you can say you paid/pay for both then you can stfu to me and let me play *my* game the way *I* want to."  It's as simple as that.  If you want to do PvP do it.  If you dont, dont do it.  I played PvE for a very long time because I went for different things for different characters.  I beat it with my necro/monk.  Then I started my monk/warrior so I could try the healing thing and the 55 monk in the UW (This was a long time ago when you could do it).  I then went with my Ranger so I could do barrage and pet and do trapping UW.  Then I made my Warrior/Monk because my g/f started playing it and I had never tanked.  Essentially, i've played every class that way I can see how that class sees the game.  This helps you no matter whatever other class you are.  Especially when you monk.  I've done HA, RA, etc a few times but I much prefer AB's.  That, to me, is a lot of fun.  Pretty much, do what you want.  Mock your friend for not being smart enough to play the storyline of a game.  That actually requires some skill too.

    EVE - Sharvala
    FFXI - Shazamalicious
Guild Wars - Xavier Lucifer & Charlize the Necro

i think the pve aspect of gw is great but the only problem, which was mentioned, is that there is just the same content being repeated over and over again. of course the content gets upgraded every 2 years with a new expansion, but ignoring that.

thats why after i beat the campaign twice, and did a lot of tombs and other pve stuff i started to move on to pvp. its still pretty repetitive but the playing style is almost completely different. its kinda like getting 2 different games under 1 disc/download/etc. except with the same skills. at least its that way to me

    its every 6 months

i agree the pvp side is less boring becose builds are always changing , makes everyone job a lot harder then pve , anyway , pve is also fun if you join pugs , if you like to teach or learn with pugs.

if you start doing stuff before the butter cutter build is out , its loads of fun

and if you like long endless chalanges , try the DOA in nightfall , prepare some food and drinks
my longest run ever , just beat the record from urgoz and tomb that was 5 hours , foundry quest took 9 hours and we lost the 3rd npc at the end, imagine that , lol.

What I think, as i played guild wars from when it went out and achieved 37th place in the guild ladder, that everyone has to spend some time on PvE, it's like being born and starting to know stuff. You have to start with PvE, you can make many new characters and that's the fun bit as you can win some instances/missions in a different way, but... (there's always a buy :) ) anyone that will play Guild Wars in some way will experience PvP, I mean the whole point of the game is to be PvP. If someone plays GW for PvE, ok, fair play to them but it eventually will get boring, as PvP won't cos it's the next stage of the game. When you get a guild and play only gvg or go to UW or any arena's, the only thing you go to do PvE is when you need an elite skill and don't want to waste factions or looking for a new weapon etc. For me I enjoyed PvE in the game the most of every other game i played, but PvP just kicked ass ;)

Omg... I don't even know how can you ask such a question?! I mean read the title... It's just the game that was made to be PvP and it's absolutely amazing at it. I think people that ask such questions should be dumped or something... No offence ;P

PvP is not the point of GW and never was and never will be. PvE is the point of GW. Unfortunatly the snall minority of PvP players are persuaded that because GW is called GW means its a PvP MMO, which it is not. I read somewhere the PvP players are around 20% of the player base, hence why NF is PvE oriented, more then Factions. I play PvE mostly and I'm sometimes dragged to GvG by my officers and leaders, I do AB a little here and there, but I really enjoy PvE more. With 12 characters I'm quite busy.
