I want to see a MMOG where the whole point is to script a bot. I mean, there's a lot of us out there, being chided and branded as cheaters. Don't we constitute a niche? I mean, I love to write code. i love figuring out where the repetative tasks are in a game and writing some code to accomplish those tasks.
WoW was almost there for a while, though a bit closed in their Lua script where they prevented movement based functions, and with the latest patch, they nerfed the autocasting functions. Why? Because that's not how they intended their game to be played. That's cool, but I want a game that IS intended to be played that way. I want a game where that's the whole point. Maybe the setting is everyone's a robot, so it makes sense that you have to program your avatar to interact with the world, as well as the usual methods of manual interaction.
Just think it would be cool, wondering if I'm the only one.

edit: Hold on a sec.. Are you really suggesting you'd like to play a game where you don't actually have to play the game to be actually playing the game? Yeah... Definately Lineage 2...

Ill take a look at Lineage 2, haven't played that one yet.
Eve doesn't cut it, bots are illegal there. Sure, you have the time-based skill progression and the autopilot, but there's no code to write. Theres no UI modification, no automation of combat routine combos. It takes illegal 3rd party software and risk of account banning in order to afk-mine asteroids (and mining is SOOOO damn booring!)
Second life doesn't cut it. I like the code writing, although the primitive design interface is about the most un-intuitive 3D modeling software I've ever tried to work with. They need to put in a toolset outside the laggy game to allow you to build and import, or at least allow impoting .CAD files like you can images. Plus, I'm not interested in either anthromorphic yiffing, gambling, or cyber sex, and SL doesn't have much more to offer than that.
And finaly, you would indeed have to "play" such a game. I've never been able to write a bot (in EQ1, using MQ, for example) that could do anything while I was even briefly AFK without first playing and knowing how the task worked like the back of my hand. Wandering spawns, PvP, and other challenging, random elements would keep even the most contingencey-minded scripter from getting up and going to the bathroom while leaving his bot unnatended.

LoL once again you ahve shown your lack of recent eve knoledge. Botting in eve is considered against the EULA so botting is of course a bannable offence.
Also i think you will find botting in eve has been seriously restricted now for example no mining barges now and industrialls
Unless you form a corp then you can be wardecked.
The what? Who?
Whatchoo talkin bout?

It wouldn't be very popular as I don't think many gamers would know how to code, it would need to be extremely simplified and accessibilized. Should that happen, then perhaps it could be appealling if you made automizing a part of the game which allows you to therefore do other original type of game objectives based on those automizations or so.
