People keep saying that, prehaps even wanting it with a long hatred for WoW, that fact is WoW does have a huge fan base, were talking Diablo and Warcraft fan boys all the way, and even though Blizzard have done a great job pissing people off no end the game still is the leader in the market.
As for the best... thats peoples opinions that they can keep to them selves.
WAR for what it is at the moment is the most hyped MMO coming out and with so many WoW fan boys hitting at it all the time "OMG COPIEZ" etc etc it manages to get the backing of every person WoW has screwed over.
So will this be a WoW killer? No I dont think so theres to many fan boys out there,
Can this game level the play field? Yeah I think so if everything runs right plays right and is as passionet as a Paul Barnett video Im sure a lot of old school DAoC fans will come, a lot of people that are intrested in the hype its been given will come and try so its got to be good to hold. And it can take a chunk out of the WoW populas.
WoW is a fad. Simon wasn't killed by a puzzle game, so WoW probably won't be killed be an MMO. But who cares? If WoW idiot dedicate their lives to WoW, it doesn't bother me. It's just when they leave their game to go harras the rest of the world that it getts on my nerves.

I liked that analogy. Anyway, I kinda feel the same as Distortion0 on this. I don't care what WoW players do with their time or how long they stay with the game. I think if someone truly enjoys WoW at its endgame, which is a monotonous PvE-fest, they're not the kind of person that will really enjoy WAR for what it is. They are two entirely different games, each with a completely different focus. I do imagine there will be a lot of DAOC players who are now playing WoW out of boredom coming to WAR, but I think that WoW is the first step in MMOs to the vast majority that play it and since it's all they know they'll just continue with it. Ignorance is bliss.
And dont forget... Ive played everything on the list. I choose to play WoW with the other 6.9 million idiots.
The way some folks think they can easily and accurately categorize over 6 million individuals says far more about the life experience of the accuser than the accused Im sorry.

I'm speaking from my experience. I played DAOC for years, but when WoW came out I went to it with my friends. I can see the appeal if you like PvE, but that's really not how I wanna spend my endgame time. I'm not sure where the last part of your comment is directed, but I think there are a lot of people like myself who played WoW just because it was what their friends were playing or because there is little else out at the moment. I also can see those same people being eager to find something new. I don't think anything is gonna "kill" WoW really, but I do think there are a lot of people who play it just because there's nothing else out at the moment and they need to feed the MMO addiction.

Had me giggling for the last 5 minits.
That being said I cant think of a better game out there at the moment and I've played a lot.... not all on the list but a lot, only took me 4 hours of Archlord to realise that WoW is so much better put together than a lot of MMO's out there, infact to be fair it was build on the pure basis to beat EQ2 and then they threw in some PvP on the side... didnt do it very well but they keep tweaking it and annoying people but there trying to get it as close to fair and right as they can,
After thinking on the matter for the last 0.5 seconds I dont think 6.9 million will up and leave in one fel swoop, theres a lot of people have put a lot of time in and do enjoy the game, me I'm stuck there waiting for WAR simply because there is no better alternative at this moment in time.... Although I did get my Beta key for 9Dragons the other day and got quite in to that even though it reminded me on the surface of Archlord... (Its not its 1000% better)
The only thing I can see WAR doing when its realised is taking the gamers that count them selves as PvP from WoW, and thats not a huge number, prehaps as I said before Old DAoC fans too, and the friends they have made in WoW.
I just hope WAR gets enough of the market to keep the game going for a long time. I can see EA's knife hit if the maintenance cost isn't covered by the subscription income.

I watched an interview with Jeff Hickman and he put it simply, WAR from were Mythic were going had (or has) to sucseed for the simple fact they put so much in to the game that if it were to fail they would all be out of jobs, and that was before EA took over.
So in short Mythic were building a game to make them money and keep a roof over there heads even before EA swalloed it up and they became the MMO section of the company
In the words of Paul barnett "Its going to be great" and great games make money.
Toby Im certainly in the camp of people who are playing WoW because I need an MMO and my guild that goes back through the ages to UO largely can be found in Azeroth.
If there was a better alternative Id be playing it. I like many of you am hoping that between War, AoC and VSoH something is going to emerge to keep me happy for a couple of years.
My main point was, you cant label everyone in WoW as a "noob". I was in UO Beta and Meridian 59 before that, yet I play WoW. Im not the oldest member of my WoW guild at 40y/o.
Yes WoW has attracted a LOT of new players to MMO's but ultimately I think thats a good thing. Some time over the next 2 to 3 years there will be 6+ million new hardcore MMO gamers looking for thier next fix. After WoW they will have extremely high expectations of stability, gameplay and complexity. This has to be good for the industry as right now devs say in interviews over and over "we dont cater too much to the hardcore because there arnt that many of them", all that will soon turn around.

So prehaps not kill, but level the playing field.
