    Please!

If you actually did research you should know that WAR will have "Massive Battles". And as far as I can se none of the people that has posted here has dissed neither you nor AoC. Come on, what do you expect when you ask in the WAR-section of the forum. The only stuff I know about AoC is what I have from a preview vid I saw a while ago, and most of the people hanging out on this forum knows just as much as me, if not less about AoC. Oh, and I suggest you read the article about "WAR is not WoW" on this site aswell.. If you've played WoW yourself, like me, you should see that WAR is different out of the research you've done. But I get the idea that you neither know enough about WoW nor WAR to compare theese two games, and thats the case for most of the people comparing it with WoW also.. If you're really that hidebound I suggest that you stick with AoC so I don't need to meet you in WAR.

    Thanks.

What is going to make Warhammer online different from ever other mmo out there is A. the dark and sinister word out there, B. the new realm versus realm content that mythic entertainment is adding, C. The dark sense of humor that makes this world so fun and there are going to be massive battles, from what i've heard there are going to be server-wide conflicts that involve everybody who is willing to participate in them, where you can capture territory, or your opponents capital,

I think both will be somewhat unique experiences and I plan on trying both.  My old guild is heavily looking towards Age of Conan and it looks to be the most gamey mmorpg.  They are trying something new, which in this day and age of mmogaming, is a rarity and something I plan to support.

With that said warhammer online looks to be alot like DAOC but with warhammer, which are both two huge positives.

Age of Conan is currently in closed testing which looks to be opening up more and more as we kick off '07 so will probably have a good feeling for how the game plays well before Warhammer hits.  All i know is the future is looking bright: Pirates of the Burning Sea, Age of Conan, Warhammer Online, Bioware's MMO, and Raph Koster's project.  '07 and '08 should be great for us gamers!

Uhh, where do you want to begin? The only two things they have in common are fantasy races and classic MMO style button pushing? I mean, I guess I'd start by saying WoW is a mass produced peice of c*** while all the art in WAR is hand sculpted. The art direction differences are pretty appearent in the screenshots so far, WAR doesn't just retexture things, place them in different places and call it a zone.

I guess you could go with the RvR direction in WAR. In WoW it might as well of been Humans vrs the Defius Theives because the Orcs sure weren't attacking the capitial city anytime soon. In WAR you have two opposed armies going at it from the time you make your character. The game isn't just about "exploring the world of Warhammer"(like you "explore the world of Warcraft"), the game is about keeping Orcs and Chaos and Dark Elves from bursting through the walls of you home town and slaughtering your familly and countrymen.

Most of the game has accomplishable goals too. I mean, in most MMOs you stop Dragon #129 from destroying the world by running an instance. This great and all, but if you fail the quest then the dragon doesn't destroy the world. Well, in WAR it will, sort of. If you fail to stop the Orcs at Hell Mountain, they're going to keep going until the slaughter your familly. You can actually lose the game. Another thing is persistance. There's this one quest where you can save a giant from squigs, get him drunk and then he'll actuallly go and smash your enemies for you.

The game is skill based, as apposed to level based. You won't usually get +5 strength, you'll get a new ability. It's like City of Heroes w.o levels as opposed to WoW.

The game is generally better made. Each race getts their own unique classes, the zones show way more detial.

I probably missing things here because like I said, the only simillarity is fantasy races and a hotbar.

Just a suggestion... but maybe the place to ask for an informed opinion on AoC is the AoC forum? You already have the answer to your WAR half of the question.  I'm no flaming you I just think you'll get the answers you want there.

If you're going to pick between the two games based on massive battles, you can look at the style of the graphics and tell which will be able to "handle" the massive battles.

Another thing to pay attention to.  AoC seems to be trying to please everybody.  You have PvP city-building, PvE city-buiding, Raid instances, Massive PvP, a Single Player game at the beginning, etc.

In WAR in one of the latest interviews they stated that end-game content to look forward to is one massive PvE/RvR dungeon, 3 major PvE dungeons, and the Campaign, which involves taking over zones and pushing towards the enemy's capital.  So you can see that WAR is going to be heavily geared towards RvR/PvP while having good quality PvE dungeons and the like as well.

WAR is hands down going to be the more dynamic of the two, since the actions of the sides determines who controls what zone.

AoC is going to be hands down the game you want to play if you want a little be of everything.  It has FPS style, RTS style, RPG style, MMO style, PvP style, Raid style, Crafting.

The question you have to ask yourself is whether or not they're spreading theirselves too thin.

Now to the question about what makes WAR unique.  They have Public Quests which are quests you automatically get when you enter a zone, they vary in difficulty and length to complete, and they stated that there would be a "boss" encounter at the end of the Public Quest arc for that zone.  However, everyone in the zone can join in, so you don't have to worry about finding a large enough group to take the boss down since everyone can participate.

WAR also has the Tomb of Knowledge which you'll have to research to learn about since it has a lot of info in it.

So if you're going to compare the two:
    AoC:
Real-time melee, RTS style city-building, Raid content, Blood Money system, Spell-weaving, Decapitations, Bar Brawls, lush scenery, Amazing Graphics.

    WAR:
24 unique classes, armor customization, controllable zones, city sieges, tomb of knowledge, 4 types of PvP, Public Quests, Lateral leveling.

For me the choice is easy.  IMO AoC seems more gimmicky, whereas WAR seems to have more solid ideas.  But that's just my opinion.

I wrote my bit out for anyone that happens across the topic and is asking the same questions.  :)

I'm guessing his decision was to stick to AoC judging from the posts on the first page or so. :p
