SWG to PS3 - a new update.

Seems as though Prima has updated some sites as to when the SWG guide for console will be available. As far as I know - there was never a release date (6/15/07) shown on these sites:

    1. It says "console"
    2. I doubt Sony would be making a game for the XboX or the Wii

+ Although they have done "dumber" things in the past

    + They tried with the PS2 http://ps2.ign.com/articles/360/360025p1.html

Thanks for the links. I remember all of the people who refused to believe me when I said it was going to console... Tiveria from SWG stratics came close to having fits when I said it had been planned since the original Combat Dumb-down so I used this info to make a reply to the age old post she came close to losing her cookies in trying to blow me off.

    Again... thanks.

Lol, this by no means makes you right.  How many times has a Prima guide for a supposed console version of SWG popped up over the time SWG has been around?  Heh, and how many times has those guides been cancelled?  I'll give you a hint on the last question:  There is no console version of SWG yet ;)

I rank the Prima SWG console Guide accuracy right up there with the ever changing "SWG Shutting down" date.

Naa, sorry not enough money or worth the investment.

There is 20 other games that would go to the PS3 before this one from SOE.

In fact right now, if you think about it-- why would a company spend the marketing, production and research alone to do this with SWG?

Look, if the game was doing well or had some sort of future -- (Not one that fires people and loses them like they have).. then MAYBE it would be worthy of the investment.

As far as porting it over?  Not a chance, PRIMA made (Or said) it had one for the PS2 at the launch of SWG even... none the less, it never made it when they had a good income from the product.

Right now, at a investment level there is no way this would come true.

At this stage, you ride it out and call it a day for SWG...

You cannot recover 300k subs either... right now they are trying to hold on to what they have let alone gain some people.

I can't think of one MMO out there that would do any kind of business being ported. Its just too different to try and set to console.

Well, I take that back, maybe Planetside but only if they got rid of the chat function and just went with premade commands.

Console is just too different for MMO's right now.

A Mac (/shudder) port would probably be more beneficial for them then a console port.

Not for SWG.. not a chance in Hell.

This thing is a coding nightmare... there is so much spagetti code that they should give you a can of Sauce with it when you buy it IF YOU BUY it.

Right now, if you call Babbages, you can get a report from them (about the sales of thier stores of the product) Gamestop, Babbages etc.

They have no problem telling you the sales of the game if its good or not... I was at my local one talking to my guy that has gave me good advice on games for the kids and what is doing well etc..

Needless to say SWG is not even on the radar being bought... in fact this new "Star Wars games package) is selling the best for them right now.

At my store (Outside of Chicago) they have not sold a copy of SWG in weeks.     (Now, if that is the case here then I can imagine world wide).

SWG is just not a game you invest in right now, SOE does not even want to focus on that... in fact they are wanting to move forward and get ready for the new stuff coming.

Also, if once again I have to post a email saying that they are "Looking to the future" and wanting to move forward I can.. but I really don't feel like playing that game again.   I used up a favor on that one last time.

I can honestly say that SOE right now is focusing on the future and trying to dodge the failure factor with SWG.

    Crap, who wouldn't?

I'll believe it when I see it.  I tend to agree about the code being too jumbled.  Even post dumbing down, SWG's probably too complex for a console.   However, I guess they could put the whole game on one of those blue ray discs of theirs.

On a side note, the Original Prima strategy guide had some neat stuff that never made it into live, at least not before i left the day before the NGE launched.

But you can bet hackers are capable of writing viruses for any operating system ;)

Well think about it - these have not been updated in months. Now, all of a sudden each store has a new release date. Also, each store updated their date at the same time. Looks like SOE made a few phonecalls - or at least Prima did.

yeh these prima guide preorders seem to pop up every 6 months or so, the last release date came and went without anything happening I think, I believe the preorders were canceled/refunded and the pages removed.

I dont think SWG/NGE will make it to PS3, but not for lack of SOE wishing that couldve been the case, at one point I think SOE was very interested in the idea of porting station pass offerings to PS3, but I think that plan has probably been dumped by now.   I just dont see it being profitable enough for SOE, or LA, to think it'd be worth all the trouble of porting it.    Even if one of the original goals of the NGE from the get-go was to dumb down the game to a console-playable state, the NGE failed, and with it probably went any dreams of porting to PS3.   But hey, ya never know, since when has SWG followed any sort of logical direction?

I did notice something different about the guide info this time around though.   I remember last time, the guide had listed in the description something about mixed and hybrid professions, and this made everybody think we might be getting a rollback or precu servers etc.  Well, I saw that same thing in the guide details this time around too, but check out the edit they dropped in after that line...

    Live the Saga!
·Covers all species, careers, and attributes for character creation
·In-depth combat information, including special attacks, group tactics, and healing
·All the basics for a healthy economy, from crafting to buying
    ·Details for each planet
·Complete weapons, armor, and creature lists
    ·Beginners chapter for MMORPG novices
·Detailed maps for major cities on every starting planet
    ·Tips on gaming etiquette
·Information on interaction with the game world and players
·Tips from testers on the Elite and Hybrid professions --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

So, at the very least, we do know that this isnt just one more erroneous listing of an old ad, as they took the time to update/edit the elite/hybrid part of the book description this time around.   Dunno what that means exactly, but with that edit, it seems to be describing a NGE version of the game now.    Maybe, after they give us back PreCU servers next year, and the last 100 people playing SWG/NGE drop ship for greener pastures, theyll port the NGE crap to PS3 to live out the rest of it's miserable life on station pass lifesupport, lol.   image

SWG going to PS3?  First problem is having enough PS3s to support the conversion.  Right now that is about 300k, if that.
