Hmm.. Where to start, well I just picked up a new copy of FFXI and I'm a returning player. Well lets see now I've finshed signing up. I've created a character and roaming around Bastok and killing a few mob's then as I was walking to flag my first Bastok mission I'm getting a disconnection icon.
I wait about five minutes. A messages appears "Error POL-4001" then as Playonline loads. Another error code appears "Error POL-0512" and gives me a description of the problem saying check my cables and connections. I double check my cables and connection and nothing seems to be out of line.
I log back in to Playonline and getting back into the game and everything is normal. I talked to the NPC to flag my quest and finsh my quest, and about an hour into the game it gives me the same messages and I get disconnected about every 40-180 minutes. So I just wondering if anybody else is having this problem. I also play on PS2/PC but mostly PS2.

Anyway, Only suggestion I have is find the direct Cable/Wire/Sorce of internet feed that runs into your house, Split it there and run one directly into your PC and the other through the house.

Teleki,
So I'm guessing that you're saying if disconnect some of those cable lines though out my house that it would give me a more solid connection? Sorry, if I misinterperate, because I'm very incompetent when it comes to comupuers/networking.
Wizardry,
I have a router but its a D-Link wireless router. I'm not sure if I bought the right one but I asked the sales assciociate this question. "Does it work with game consoles?" And he said it "should" work. Then I called my ISP and asked if I had bought the right one. But they said the same thing.
For some reason I can't get a straight answer, isn't there anybody that can help me?!?! I can't believe I actually pay these people for there service and not get a solution to my problem.
The Cable feed comes into you house. You split it, Run one to your living room TV, And run the to a Bedroom TV, You split that one and run it to a Bedroom Next door. This bedroom has a TV and a Computer. So you split it there and run 1 to the TV, and the other to the PC.
In the end the Cable Wire was Split 3 times before it reached the PC, Each time you split the wire you lose some connection speed.
About a Year ago My Aunt & Uncle Got Cable Internet. They've had Cable TV for awhile, and its hooked up to 5 TV's in their house. My cousin got a PC for christmas (Thats why they were getting internet, Just an added Gift. but anyway) His TV was like the last one to get hooked up, So like the first 9 or So channels were Fuzzy (Sign of a bad connection). So when they got Internet turned on it was slow as Hell. They had to find the main cable feed that was in the garage split it there, and run 1 to the PC.
Speed shouldn't be a big issue because bandwidth is limited anyhow and i have heard of people playing on 56k.Lag however reacts different with different routers, when you do logon check your S=send ping and your R=recieve ping.If either ,but most likely the recieve is very high like 700+,then it is possible you are lagging out.Thing is with my net gear router i have on occasion hit the zero ping ,but still my connection would recoup very quickly. On my link sys router it would just spin at zero or gradually fade to zero.If any of this is happening then i would get rid of that d-link router.
If your connection send/recieve seems stable around 200 send and maybe 300-400 recieve then it is most likelly another problem ,possibley your wiring or splitter.
There are free online speed tests, you can google to find them,to see if the end connection is half decent.

FFXI is just stingy like that.
