Alot of UOers these day look for the next UO. Hell, I do too. But I think there is one game coming up close that reminds me alot of what UO had in it. No, it's not Darkfall. Sure, the PvP in Darkfall will be similar to what we see in UO, but I'm talking about how UO was as a game.
Vanguard: Saga of heroes. Now, think about it. VG has customizable houses. You can decorate your houses ANYWAY you want, then you are also able to sell things out of your house. Boats...boats can now be built, customized and you can sail the sea.
The world is also Seamless, no loading screens, and no instances. Crafting....apparentaly the better equipment in Vanguard will come from players, players that crafted the items. Just like how old UO was.
I don't know, I think Vanguard is more of a clash of UO and EQ, than just another EQ. The only EQ part I see in the game is the leveling and that it's being created by Brad. I'm looking forward to Vangaurd, it seems to give me the same virtual world that UO once had long long ago.

WELL IN AGE OF CONAN YOU WILL HAVE THE SAME , WITH MUCH BETTER GRAPHIC .
Vanguard was so long in development that its graphic got outdated before game even came out,its graphic is quite generic with poor texture ,also animations are so poor that it hurts to watch... i know so was UO , but remmember UO had an iconic graphic never trying to look realistic , where Vanguard does and fail .....
you might say , well graphic is not important to me ,but thousands of people out there will dissagree, or why upgrade UO then????
because most of people want their games to be pleasing to eyes
i ve got quite a few friends that every time i recommand a game ,, they say nah dont like the graphic,,,,
it might sound shallow , but those shallow people pay and keep game alive
Most of the people that are following graphics day to day are little kids. To them 1 week is an eternity. There is a big difference from a year of graphics differences and 10+ years of outdated graphics. Also many people who want UO2 want more then just a graphics update. They are mainly looking for additional content and a restart overall. Many people like myself who played UO 4yrs+ ago dont want to come into a 10yr old MMO and try to start over. There are many things in UO now like VET rewards that are against newbs starting out.
Many people want to start out on close to equal footing, additional content and of course at least a moderate graphics update.
Honestly I dont know much about AOC or Vanguard. I think the devil will be in the details. I believe that boats, customized housing ... is a good start. But the real important things will be how integrated the entire game is at the micro level. How well the economy is balanced. If characters are properly balanced. If people have a wide variety of interesting things to do at the end game. I cant wait for them to be released so I can listen to some valued opinions and decide which is best at that point.

Free PvP, or ganking as the carebears like to call it, was the biggest feature that separates classic UO from the crap it is today (item centric combat is another great improvement provided by our beloved EA). Vanguard is a 100% PvE game.
Darkfall is the new "old UO". Lets hope it's not the new Dark&Light too.
I am also looking forward to Vanguard, I've been registered for open beta and will be able to try it out when next month comes around. When it's time, I'll have a better impression of the game than just word of mouth.
If you want to put it in marketing terms, Vanguard is like EQ with some UO mixed together. The game is aimed mainly at "core" players, between casual and hardcore.
I am looking forward to this next generation of MMOs.
Classic UO was not mostly about PVP. In fact PVP has always played a very very small part of the game. PVP in UO consisted of a few kids running around killing newbs. There were no big combat zones or areas. Buc's den has always been a ghost town. You could sit there for hours on end and never see a red there. Only place you could even find some action is if you hide outside of a newb zone and wait. Then maybe a red would actually come outside thier house. Soon as they would see a Blue Anti PK killer they would run/recall away.
UO has always been about much much more. Customization mainly, player skills, clothing, houses, even things like dye tubs, runebooks to exactly where you want to go. Also an important part was the diverse player economy, resource gathering and crafting system. Another thing that made UO great, was that there was something for everyone, Taming, Treasure Hunting, PVE, Fishing, Crafting, Trading, Resource Gathering, Rare Hunting, and even PVP. Each of these was very detailed and balanced overall with the player economy.
But to say what made UO popular was PVP is a JOKE. As evidenced by the popularity of TRAMMEL area, and the complete VACANCY of Felluca. I remember on our server Sonoma, we would have a "fight night" once a week. It was considered the most popular PVP event on the server, and yet only around 30 to 50 people would attend, even less would participate. This is on a server where at the time 1000+ players were playing simultaneously. Only 30 to 50 would bother to show up? You could find that many players at the bank any day in the week.
Yes, thats what I think as well from all that I read read and seen. We do not need a new UO when we still have UO and soon to be in a new look
