Wandering Monsters

Wouldnt it be good to be able to log into your game as a wandering monster. At character choice screen could be another option of random mob. Choosing this would allow you to become a random monster in the game and be randomly spawned somewhere in the game world.

It could be awsome, finding a party to hunt down or be hunted down by a party. Make your way to a low lvl area and cause havoc until the big guys get theyre act together to bring you down. Possibilities for this are endless and would be a good way of drawing people together. eg: We cant leave the city yet as there is a L40 Balrog just outside the gates. I can just imagine all the high lvl players teaming up to take it down, but this time the Balrog has human AI.

oh well just something to think about...

or the highe level players could just go level in their own zone and the newbs are screwed cause the highlevels dont see a point in helping, bad exp, no special loots.

So you give it special loots and bonus exp. My buddy logs on, controlls a mob, tells me where he is and lets me kill him easy, I farm him for the special loots and bonus exp.

Everquest has this feature for sometimes...and I think they remove it since players where harsh between themselves.  I also would have love it, it would be great...but it would require some more thinking before implementing, you can't underestimate the players nastiness.

Yes I remember that EQ1 had a feature like this years ago.  Basically at character select you wouldn't click on your toons but a "monster" button.  You'd then be a random mob in a newbie area and could play til you were killed, logged off or zoned.  I admit it was a pretty fun feature, too bad they really didn't support or follow up on it.

I think a "fun feature" like that should be in more games.  To take a break from the same ol' same ol' stuff and just have a bit of fun.

Yep Probably Sometime in 2002 or 2003 EQ implemented a Monster feature where you would log in as a rat, or snake, or skeleton, or if you were lucky, a cool shaman froglok. All the monsters you could be were I believe level 9 or lower so it was nothing spectacular like a dragon or something. But I remember being a snake once and having this PC girl wailing on me. Then when I got her to low health she'd run to the guard to be saved and have me follow her and be killed....but every time she ran I stayed still in the field and waited for her to return lol. was Hilarious, I also did donuts around her and jumped a bunch, sigh, then the feature was stripped. I guess it was getting abused........maybe? lol.

EDIT: that was in Qeynos if anyone cared. But also, that would be an awsome idea! I mean....it would lower the ammount of GM events that would have to be implemented because out of the oridinary stuff could happen almost anywhere at anytime run "BY" the players themselves...hehe would be neat indeed.

Lord of the Rings Online is supposedly intending to have some form of 'Monster Play'.

Sounds like a bit of a lark if they can pull it off correctly :)
