Holiday Events?

What games do you guys know of that have holiday events?

I know Guild Wars gets some special collectors this time of the year that will be crafting wintergreen weapons and trinkets, and WoW gets a visit from Santa, but other than that.. I don't know of any.

SWG celerbrates with Life Day, the Star Wars equivilent of Christmas.  For the event, when you login you get two boxes: one for yourself and one that you swap with a friend.  When you open either box (you can't open the friend box, you do have to swap it), a large Woshyyyr tree will spawn where you're standing and some music will play and a random gift(s) will appear in your inventory which you can place in your house/ship.

WoW has a Winter Festival type event where you can do a quest for gifts and at Christmas you can get a gift from under the main Christmas tree. You could also get

Lineage II has a an event as well where you go collect items and exchange for gifts.

EVE used to give out snowballs and a snowball launcher for your ships (don't know if they still do it)

In my opinion, by far though, SWG had the best holiday items to collect.

CoH/CoV has a ski-slope, which is a nice little touch.

Yes City of Heroes/Villains has an event where heroes and villains can team up in a special mission.  I know WoW and EQ2 have winter events as well, not sure if EQ1 still does anymore their ingame events were rather sporadic.

It's not only that but CoH/CoV has a clear advantage when it comes to holiday events because the world itself is based on events/holidays that really take place on planet Earth. Valentines, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, Halloween are all actual holidays that can be easily implemented because in these games these holidays are real.

Fantasy based MMO's like EQ, WoW, Vanguard will never be able to implement these well because Earth does not exist to them. So instead they fabricate holidays and events that try to resemble what us "Earthikans" enjoy.

This is what also adds to the immersion of a game too. Players can relate to things that exist in real life and its history. CoH/CoV is based on actual history that has been changed through the years of course but they are free to mention things like the Supreme Court decisions, cars and trucks, turnstiles, airports, inaugural speeches, parking meters, credit cards, Mars, The Moon, The Sun, and the list can go on.

Fantasy games are too limited in this sense. They are forced to make up all their history, names, events, and most of the time it comes out really corny and patchwork at best.
