mmorpg's boring??

-sorry about bad english-

Hi.

I'm new on the mmorpg scene and been playin games like: Priston Tale, MU Online, ragnarok. all these games are all about kill monsters, lvl up, get stronger weaponry to kill tougher monsters to get more lvl to get stronger weaponry image(Priston Tale) .. theres no point (good reason) in gettin stronger.

In offline rpgs theres a story and stuff so u grow along with the story and is pretty nice. but theres seems to be no point in mmorpg's.. theres no point to keep playin or maybe.. image

Well what i want to know is: I'm wrong, mmorpg's are more then just lvlup and kill monster, or, i just don't like the type of gaming? image

Since im new on mmorpg's i would like to know what experienced mmorpg players think about this and why u play, whats the fun on these type of games.

Thanks for your comprehension. image

If MMORPG's are so boring, then don't play them. Why waste your life (and money in some cases) on something you think is "boring"?

You are right in a sense.  There wouldn't be much point in just improving, fighting, improving, fighting, etc.  Developers have tried to create storylines that players can really become a part of, as you described.  I guess it's harder to do this in MMORPG's, since you have to give everyone equal opportunities to complete quests, and you can't really predict what players will do with the freedom that comes with the genre.  So instead of having a linear order of events to build a meaningful story, as in most single-player games, MMORPG's have vague background stories, that really don't depend too much on population trends or individual accomplishments.

However, what I like so much about MMORPG's is that I can choose my own path, and not follow a linear storyline.  I can create and mold a customized character and live through 'him' in an exciting, magical, ancient world.  What can gain experience hunting today, and still have that experience 2 years from now.  And there are individuals all around me with their own lives and adventures and experiences in the same fantastic world for all these months and possibly years.  These are things single player and/or non-persistant-world games can't offer.  And if you stick with one of these games long enough, you might find the players really do build their own economy and story, regardless of the background story the devs provided.

lol. non linear...I can play some more recent RPGs that are more non linear then is possible with 90% of MMORPGs. As soon as they make a game that allows me to do more then participate in a sweet new online economy! (player crafting was bad in UO and before, and will still be bad until developers use their brains to make it MATTER) other then that, it is a standard RPG with a chat option. weee

Other then killing monsters, training, and everything you said, there's also the community in games. Which is mostly why I play MMORPGs.

It is prolly not your type of game then. What one person finds boring another may not.

Myself I play to have fun. I guess I find it fun to kill things over and over to build my character up to face even harder challenges. I enjoy hunting with my friends/guildmates and trying out new things. Everyone has their own reasons why they like it.

Well... for one, those are all 3 Hack'N'Slash MMOs. I hate Hack'N'Slash MMOs, expecially Mu. There is nothing in that game besides hacking and slashing your way through levels.

Most MMOs are not Hack'N'Slash, however. I don't think any of the Big Budget MMOs are hack'n'slash. There are plenty of lower budget MMOs w/ a storyline and plot and what-not. You just have to find the one that best suits you.

    Here are my suggestions:
Ashen Empires (cheap well done game)
    EVE-Online (space)
SWG (Don't listen to the ppl who complain. It IS a great game and has the best community of any MMO out there. I do agree that it shouldn't have been released when it was... but that's not a big problem)
UO (10 when it comes out)

Those are all game's w/ plots and what not. EVE is the best in my opinion, haven't played it much.... can't run it, but I have alot of friends from a browser game who play it and love it.

What you need to understand about MMOs is most of the "storyline" is created by the players. That is..... if the game is well made and has a good community.

don't play those hack n slash games, because those games are stupid. Play a real mmorpg not a want a be.

by real mmorpg I mean the ones you have to pay to play. those types of games have a point to them, things to do, and is always changing. usually the free ones are just hack n slash.

Personally i think new game lack in the atmosphere departement.

Another thing is that the comunity in MMORPG is not staying long enough to get strong.

Take EQ for example, it was popular because it had a very very strong comunity (taking player were playing the game for 2 year!).

Usually if you want to get a good experience from your MMORPG you better start getting a lot of friend :)

There are games out there that DO NOT require you to do the "level grind" of killing low level stuff at first, buy better weapons and kill a step above the low level stuff, and so on for eternity.

One such game which I played, which had NO COMBAT what so all, was A Tale in the Desert. www.atitid.com. I really enjoyed the game and played it for 11 months. The second telling (restart of the game world) is going to happen in 1~3 months according to the forum so you might want to wait for that.

oh well seems i started off with wrong games.. I was thinking on buying Neverwinter nights and btw its not on the mmorpg.com games list. the game is the board RPG in 3d and online?

    k thx bye

Neverwinter Night is not an MMORPG but it's a very very very good online multiplayer games.

I played this game for 2 year... wich is the longest i ever did and i know a lot of people that did the same.

Furthermore the new comunity pack just got out... so their will be a ton of new add-on for people.

This game is for everyone because of his multi-mod server database. Basicly u could see new stuff for years will all the comunity added content.

For the powergaming section... well here i go:
    40 levels
    15 classes (with two expansino)
    3 multi-classing limit
    over 130 feat
    over 150 different spell
tonnns of different ability for each class

Basicly, you would have almost a million possible combination, not counting the item the server offer you (they always change a lot from server to server)

The role playing atmosphere in roleplay server is the most wonderfull thing ive seen. People do actually live their character and they have huge events and stuff.

If you like roleplaying games... go and play Neverwinter...
