The folks over at Final Fantasy XI have announced that they have suspended or banned over 7,700 accounts for various violations of game's user agreement.

Over 7,700 accounts in violation of the FINAL FANTASY XI user agreement were suspended or banned today. These accounts belonged to users that engaged in RMT activities or made use of third-party tools or "cheats".

I love this and wish it was capable of stopping it. My wifes' nephew played and used one. I told him that he was going to get caught and his account would be gone. He would not listen and got caught. I am the only person he knows that is not his age that can even talk on the same level about games. I don't like add-ons. I just feel it is worth me learning how to work with what the game gives me. I know it is different for others. Most don't care they are affecting others with their actions.

Yea, it's going pretty bad with RMT and third-party tools. Serve those RMT though!. Hope it gets better. Although they will lose alot of online players, it's for the future and hope people who got banned learned some lessons. I"m not saying all of them are bad but they shouldn't have started.

Wow this is great, I wish they'd have done it years ago.  I played FFXI for it's first 1-2 years of it's existence and enjoyed it except for these people, they are the biggest reason I left the game.

Wonder if Blizzard will follow suit and start banning accounts in WoW.  They have a lot of this going on in WoW.

Ahhh, lambs to the slaughter...account banning news posts have to be one of my favorite things to read on gaming news sites. I REALLY hate cheaters.

BTW, my first post since the site upgrade. I like what they did with the posting page.

Btw, I have been following WoW news since launch, and if I'm not mistaken they have banned of 100k accounts by now (I remember last month they had claimed busting 67,000 botters/farmers/hackers etc.)

More money for the companies, as those who got banned must go and buy another copy of the game if they want to play.

SOE have banned many 100ks of accounts.  They have always been very agressive against cheating and I applaud them for that.   Many SOE haters are players who have been caught cheating and have had their accounts banned.  No, don't ask for people to raise their hands because they will never admit to having been banned.

Players do not realize how in depth game logs are.  SOE can trace an item from its birth to its death.  If an item is dupped they are immediately aware of the fact.  I am sure it is the same with every other MMO game.  So, just because you think you got away with cheating you can bet the game masters are aware of your activity.  Don't think that just because nothing happened to you at the time that you got away with cheating.  You didn't.  The game masters know about it and may choose to take action down the road.

I appauld people that go after cheaters...but the reason people dont like SOE has nothing to do with them being banned, and everything to do with to do with their developent of a certain games.

I have never been banned from any game I have ever played, and I hate SOE, and will never play any game associated with them.

About dang time! When I was playing thats all I would see is botters and hackers! every NMs had some botter camping them 24/7 and almost everyone fishing on the game was a bot! Thats one of the reasons I left FFXI. THey had an awsum MMO going but they handeld the population badly.

Wow it must've been a long time since you played. I stopped playing almost 2 years ago and they already had the fishing thing fixed. Still, this is a good start towards getting rid of the other botters and/or campers in the game. I miss this game though. Everytime I play a game I don't like I think about something else that Square-Enix did right.
