A few simple questions

Ok third edit, but I think I will leave it this time.

In an effort to make RV a better game, what changes do you
think need to be made?

Please stick to shorter term subjects. Just the little
things that put you off about it now and maybe what you think would be the best
change.

This isn't the type of thing you should post on a general gaming forum.

First considering how few players the game retained i think here is the ideal place to gain information about what went horribly wrong.

1)performance.Now the game is virtually empty of players there is still serious server lag.So clearly the problem lies in the coding or engine.I always thought the self build engine looked suspect but hope this is not the case as that means a full rehaul.

2)Old content not working why bring new barren one.I stopped playing after that update simply because the old content is bug ridden so why bring more empty worlds ?Track down this bugs and fix it.

3)crafting is way too time consuming. The crafting is not very intresting to do but can be bearable had it not taken so much time and effort to make an item.Speed things up a bit.

4)Sound professional. While this is not the post that made my brother say he will never play this game(doubt i find that post but its similar).Sometimes kanoth blows unhappy posts with sacrasim. This a total no no in Public relations. And i mean a total no no.Ask anyone in the buisness. You either ignore this posts or make statements such as "we are sorry the product was not to your liking ,but if you would put into an email the problems you encountered we will surely look into them".

He comes out with things like http://www.roma-victor.com/community/bb/viewtopic.php?t=18494 with a totally sacrastic remark to annoy a customer that paid hard earned money even further.Chances of getting that customer back now = 0%.For a game fighting for every single customer to stay that was weird.

5)Add the promised features. Some hardcores can come and try tell people who never played that everything is ingame. Those who played and play know the reality.Get those features in and most importantly working

6)make the  start of game more exciting.I hope this has changed as i have had no dealings with new players for a while.Maybe bad memories. The start is terrible. There is no proper tutorial apart from attending which is certainly a boring time sink.Make it such that a new player logs in.Within 30 mins- 2 hrs  of a proper tutorial he is ok with the interface and ready to fight or craft. For a game hoping to get much needed new blood it certainly does not appear user friendly or exciting for the first day of play.

Tired now and will continue some other time.

    I don't see a dime, I'm just a player. image

The reason is because we will get posts from ignorant people like you that have never played the game, that don't understand the game or that have already decided they hate the game.  How can that help fix current issues?

Mind your own business Virtus and take your own advice.  I find your post as insulting as anyone's and your opinion nearly as valueless.  If you wanted to say something to me you should have PM'ed me.  You have shapened up quite a bit now that you are an inside tester, but because you have changed so much it's obvious you are only acting and doing so as a result.

You can't even manage or lead a guild within the game, how can anyone expect you to lead or represent a community.

While some here may hate me because I am opinionated, you are thought of as a buffoon.

You want a list of things that should be fixed immediately here in a general gaming fourm where RB advertises?  OK, you got it, this should be interesting for everyone!  Here you go:

Some of the most important fixes will be things that immediately have an impression on new players.

Number one is to fix such a basic thing as terrain. What do you imagine a new player thinks about the game when they merely cross a border and end up in a 1000 meter fall below ground into a green void with missing terrain and waterfalls that extend into the sky all around? Not good. Number two is to fix basic graphics. The skin tone seems trivial, but it makes a horrible impression immediately upon new players - all the characters in the world look whitewashed and bad, which immediately insipres the thought, "bad graphics" So does the transparency which causes a transparent outline around everything, regardless of distance, especially crops and just gives a bad look. Add skintones in as soon as possible and fix the transparency so that it looks good, either that or revert back to no transparency and the previous skintones until both are ready. Last but not least, this should be a quick fix. The very title page to the game after it loads up has incorrect grammar. This will make a bad impression on anyone smart enough to notice, and we surely could use more educated, intelligent players. Currently the Title page reads something like, "Please ensure that ALL you drivers are up to date..." when it should obviously read, "Please ensure that ALL your drivers are up to date." That is a simple fix, but makes a bad impression when it's on the title page; who typed it, Virtus?

Ok so it looks like everyone’s fears were premature. A lot
of stupid flaming, including from hardcore members. I don’t want anymore of
that. You want your voice heard, respect my rules or I will stop reading this
    thread.

So again, thank you Max2008 and Sempiternal, I have read
your ideas and they are not too much to ask. I am sure the devs will like the
input. So let’s try and keep it clean, and get some more ideas. None so far
stated are too hard, nor must they be far off.

Also, remove the logout timer unless it is absolutely necessary.  When a new player is trying to figure out how to play the game going back and forth from the game to the forums or wiki, they are going to be much more likely to be frustrated and just stop playing if they are autologged off when they return to the game than if their character was still sitting there waiting for them to take action.

This is especially true with the long Patch Utility file processing, which nobody wan'ts to sit through.  Maybe a way to reduce the time it takes to load the game while still veryifying the integrity of the files is to generate a code based upon the files, the content of some files, and the file sizes and modification dates.  Then all the patcher would have to do is quickly scan the necessary files to verify the code generated matched that produced from the official files.  You should not need to scan each and every file, there are smarter, faster ways to do it.

Other than that, improve the experience for new players by helping to familiarize them with the game environment and commands with more in game tutorial instruction during attending.  No matter how good the game is, frustration will convert a person into a hater rather than supporter, and nothing is more frustrating than for a new player to have a difficult time learning.

This is exactly the right thing to do for the game, sempiternal.Took so long for you to do it.Good job man.

Rather then be a salesman for a faulty product and create more haters ,lets work towards actually fixing the game.

Truth is the game is very broken at the moment. However ,it has a good idea behind it .So if the game can be fixed i am sure many will return to it.

If the game gets fixed to an acceptable release product not only will i come back but i will spent £30 as a way to help in the development and buy an extra account as a gift for someone .

They need to break down the construction of big items to smaller parts instead of one whole one.  Build devices, buildings, etc... in peices instead of doing it all at once.

Also have they added more content on the construction side yet?

    Create c:godsandheroes

I was in beta for a long time and kept trying to get myself to play the game. Then time passed, id check in and try out features now and then, but gave up a few months ago due to its unplayable state.

Pretty sure its still unplayable and extremely boring. I had more fun organizing my book shelf. I gained 4 points in bookshelfery.

It was a good idea, but sadly could not be implemented. Directx 10 games are around the corner, as well as some big budget quality mmos.

    /rip rv

as is said frequently, Roma Victor requires the very latest direct X and drivers available. this is becasue they update everything to the very latest as soon as it comes out.

so what makes you think RV will not be a DirectX 10 game? its likely to be one of the first.

how would you sugest the game be fixed? keep in mind most peoples graphics complaint is actualy due to the drab scheem and not poor graphics quality. the game is literaly as realistic as it can be. (so some textures are overly redundant, we hope to fix that.
  • herculeshercules Member UncommonPosts: 4,925

I beg to differ about the graphics quality of roma victor.I think the actual majority agree it is no better then 1999 graphics.

But that is indeed the least problems of this game. Most are ready to accept the graphics(including me) but that does not mean the graphics are good .
