Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

Which one will it be? EVE, WoW, or SWG?

Which MMORPG if any should I spend my money and time on?

I'm on day 9 of my EVE trial, and so far...

LIKES:
Atmosphere. I love it, the music, the sound effects, it feels like I'm really in space.
Combat. Its really stragetic like an RTS, and its fast paced.
Community. Lots of brilliant people.
Complexity. This game is smart, and its very open and flexible like pre-NGE SWG was.
Lore. I read the Black Book, and all I have to say is this game is deep.
Progression. This is a new concept. Offline skill training.

DISLIKES:
Content. I'm having a hard time walking my path. I want to be a solo pirate, but that gets boring because I can hardly find anyone to pirate. When I do find someone, its quite an adrenaline rush. The agent missions are a good way to make money, but that gets redundant. The combat is fun, but it takes forever to pirate anything. I assume I'll have to be in a corp if I want to PvP battle.

Overall this game can be fun sometimes, but it takes a lot of work to make it fun.

I'm on day 3 of my World of Warcraft trial, and so far...

LIKES:
Atmosphere. The graphics, sound, UI, really brings this game world to life.
Content. The quests are different and fun.
Simplicty. I love the fact that I can just jump right in a fight stuff. The controls are easy to get used to.
Variety. I think I have character ADHD because I keep creating different characters to try out. All of them are fun.
Lore. The quests are fun to read and thats good for a quest driven game.
Progression. I'm progressing fast as a newb, this is good.

DISLIKES:
Combat. This game has steady paced combat, atleast it isn't as bad as EQ where all you do is stand still, then take a swing. From what I've tried, the rogue is the fast swinger. Spell casting is fun and fast too.
Graphics. I love the art, but seeing flat paper wood on a wall is just silly.
Community. People just randomly invite people to start up their guilds. I don't think that may good. General chat is hilarious though.
Linear. It feels like I'm walking just one played out path.

This game is pure fun.

I'm on my 9th day of the Star Wars Galaxies trial, and so far...

LIKES:
Atmosphere. I'm a big Star Wars fan, sure the stories been botched to a mess, but it feels like I'm standing in the Star Wars galaxy, whether I'm flying or driving on planetary terrain. The graphics are nice still.
Content. I played pre-NGE since launch, and there are still remnants of it in this game still such as the player cities, furniture, placable items, mounts, vehicles. Its fun that I can use most of the weapons not restricted to a certain profession. Space is still fun and feels untouched by the NGE. The new quests are nice in character progression.
Combat. Space coombat is still fun as before.

DISLIKES:
Controls and UI. I've had to adjust them to my liking but it still feels unsmooth. UI tries to copy WoW's obviously.
Content. Its a rip off from WoW's quest driven leveling to the exact but with unsmooth UI.
Community. I play on Starsider. I see people running through cities and doing the same quest as me. But it feels nonexistent without any chatting.

Overall this game is fun but not that fluid.

I'm not putting EVE in the poll because the numbers on this site give EVE the upper hand.

Yeah, solo PvP is very difficult. It takes a lot of experience to track people down and get them in a position where they have to fight.

I personally have as much fun stalking through systems looking for targets as I do fighting them, particularly when there are other people out looking for me.

Colored emphasis added by me.  I couldn't help but grin at that.

    Anyway, as I see it:

1.) You say that EVE requires a good bit of work to make it fun.  Are you okay with work being required to make a game fun?

2.) You say that WoW is just pure fun.  This bottom line statement, to me, seems to mean that WoW wins for you.

SWG is SWG.  Don't expect any positive comments about it from the folks on these forums. image  Nor from me, for that matter.  There really wasn't a thing that I liked about the NGE when I tried it.  YMMV.

I would definitely not suggest WoW from my experience with the free trial.  It has only been less than a week and I'm already sick of the game because quests just have you running around, or collecting drops.  If you enjoy PvP (which I believe your post stated), you will probably hate WoW because the only way to be successful is to get to level 60 and get the best items.  This will take months and months of grinding as I am sure you have already heard.  It's all fun at the start because you advance so quickly and it really seems like you are making progress.  Then you realize you're just wasting your time.

  • About random guild invites in World of Warcraft. Just some info, if there are 100 guilds on a server (incluing both factions), 90 of those guilds are complete garbage. I myself was the proud founder of both, "CHUNKUPTHEDUECE" and "POOLSCLOSED". I randomly invited anyone it was alot of fun. But that is besides the point. My point is look for a serious guild list on your server forums and app. If they don't accept you app to another. However, do yourself a favor and make sure you are level 60. Most guilds don't care about class anymore in WoW they just want active members. World of Warcraft is a very carefree game. There really aren't any consequences to your actions. That can be a good or bad thing depending on who you are and what you like.

Don't see a 'None of the above' option on that poll

"I'm not putting EVE in the poll because the numbers on this site give EVE the upper hand."

So your not putting eve up because you know it's going to win? I think you found the answer to your question then.

I say Eve.  The game is almost entirely player driven - market, alliances, fleet battles, manufacturing, mining, etc..

PvP is amazing, I still remember my first kill :).  I was in the sagain solarsystem, in my Rifter fitted with 3x 200mm Auto cannons, a rocket launcher, a afterburner, warp scrambler, webber, a small armor rep a 200mm plate, and a nano. I opened my scanner and found a retriever mining barge in a belt someone, I warped to the planet the belt was at and narrowed my scan to the belt. My hand started shaking like crazy and I could feel the adrenalin pumping. I  warped into the belt, but the barge already warped out. I bookmarked the can andwarped to a nearby moon and waited for him to return. A few minutes latter I scaned and found a badger hauler in the belts. I got the shakes again and warped into the belt. I locked him and started shooting.
    He typed in local:
    Victim:"you gotta be kidding me"
    Local Antipirate: "what?"
    Victim: "Im being player killed"
    Local AP: "Where?"
Victim: "Im being attacked by a rifter, belt X(dont remeber belt)"
    Local AP: "OMW"
*His ship goes boom and I collect his loot*
    Victim: "Mother Fucker"
Me: "Should of kept quiet, would of offered you a ransom"
Then the local Antipie warped in with his battlecruiser, so I made a 'tactical withdraw' ;p

I still get the shakes after 2+ years of playing eve. Feels great ;p
