In another few weeks (or late January at worst) I will be renewing ONE, and only ONE, MMGS subscription. I have narrowed it down to four choices, and am going to seek the same question to be answered on each forum for the games to see what info I can get. The four games are WoW, EQ2, Vanguard and Eve Online.
I'd really appreciate it if you can examine which game I should renew or start based on MY gameplay style and preferences, not your own. I certainly need your experiences to give me the information, but here is what I am like as a gamer:
I am a 99 percent soloist. I find most groups to be annoying, the people stupid, and the fact that no one can spell the easiest words in the English language to be cringe-inducing. I do not use voice chat in games. I find most people rushing, rushing, rushing to get that next kill, make more money, get better loot. I find the entertainment in the journey, not the destination. I've played every MMGS that's released (and many betas) and never once reached maximum level despite playing every day for massive lengths of timel. I do not tend to join Guilds or groups as I feel obligated and pressured to do things with the people or chat with them and it takes away from my entertainment value of what I'm doing in the game. I love crafting, I love exploring, I love the rush of having taken out 5 enemies on my own. I love having made things with my crafting and getting a regular batch of customers that rely on my great prices and return for their gear needs. I am a fan of PvP, but only in a non-twinking environment, as twinking is cheating.
Based on these generalizations and characterizations of myself as an MMGS gamer, which one would you suggest renewing or starting? WoW, EQ2, Vanguard or Eve Online? Please give me good info about my fit in the game for the forum you're reading this in.
Thanks in advance for any serious and intelligent replies!

Like you, I solo most of the time and really dislike grouping. I didn't like Eve because it was mostly "fly your ship". I don't like those types of games because your actual character is more like "your ship" even though you have a picture of yourself in a window.
Can't tell you much about Vanguard.
As for EQ2, great community, endless stuff to do, the gm's are active, the monthly "updates" also include changes, additions, and deletions of quests so you're constantly getting new content and they release an expansion or adventure pack about every 6 months or so. You have your choice of servers (PvP, RP or Normal) so you don't HAVE to PvP unless you want to (normal servers only have PvP in dueling or arenas and you can autodecline so you never see the invitation if you don't want to).
Thanks for the input!
What opinion do you have on my going back to EQ2, without any of the expansions? I don't have any cashflow currently, so at best I'd be able to grab ONE expansion if any. Would I be really out of touch or limited without the expansions? If I only got one expansion, which should it be? Curious about this, I like having access to everything, even if I don't necessarily get to it all.

As to what you should play? Well ... go read the forums on the related sites and see what the topics are.

Ooooh! Thanks for this input, very good to know- I thought I would be out several expansions if I went back to EQ2, nice to know I wouldn't be missing anything (one thing that was holding me back from returning to EQ2.)
Thanks for that! I'll keep mulling this over to decide. I like all of the games I mentioned (and I'm sure to like Vanguard too) so, it's a win-win situation, just wanted to see what people thought who've been in game more recently than I have.
Thanks!

If you are going to give EQ2 another crack, then as suggested get EoF retail so that you get the lot. I think it is a MUST. I think just having the original release without expansions is a waste of time as you will not gain any Achievement Points.
Vangaurd: brand new game = Wait it out for 3 months - 1 year.
Eve online: Dont even think about it lol.
As for the other two....
Solo:WoW(Great....If you like 1 on 1)EQ2(Takes awhile but really fun)
Crafting:WoW(High Cost of materials,Simple)EQ2(High Cost of Materials,Complex)(IMHO Funner)
Enviroment(World Exploration):WoW(Boring,Cartooney)EQ2(Vast,Realistic)
Group:WoW(Everyone press buttons!)EQ2(Group Strategy required or death)
PvP:WoW(Extremely Fun and Fast paced,Twinks)EQ2(IDK sry)
Character Creation:WoW(Simple, fast, cant tell one elf from another)EQ2(Very Deep)
I can understand your beef with most MMO's, i have some similarities (grouping, little kits etc) but so far EQ2 was and still is a blast.
So far i have not regretted a single minute i spend ingame together with my GF, the community rocks, ingame people are EXTREMELY helpfull, the quests are very well done, and the scenery and ingame dept are breathtaking.
im 100% sure you will not regret it at all
I have wondered around alot of MMO's now, and EQ2 is definatly top. Only reason I'm not playing it is my computer is a bit too poor, saving up to buy a new one. =P I would avoid WoW, it's an ok game but it doesnt seem to be what you're looking for.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7

Echoes of FAydwer (oh however is its spelled) costs just $40.00 and includes the original game and every expansion in between.
I was a staunch critic of the original game back at launch, and so far after a day and a half with eqII in its current state I'm impressed.
Vangaurd is SOE too so you could get an all access pass for $24.99 a month and play anything SOE. Thats my current plan... EQ II till Vangaurd (realizing that Vangaurd could be delayed like every mmorpg seems to be).
If you have never ever played WoW... its a fun game too. I just played it to death.
Thanks for all the tips/suggestions.
I've narrowed things down- I'm either going to grab the all-in-one and renew EQ2, or.... try to sell one or two things and get a Wii or 360.
I've determined I can't afford to upgrade my system, but I've played EQ2 on it in the past and it was fine. (2.2 Gig, 768 ram, GeForce 6800 GT OC). I don't need things on "max" graphically, anyhow. It's all about the gameplay!
Now all I have to do is figure out which route I'm going to go! (This may take me 10 years... I hate making decisions! (hehe))
Thanks again for the feedback, it was helpful in weeding out my other MMGS choices.
Enjoy your gaming!
