Have they fixed the bugs? This game had a TON of great ideas, but to say they were overshadowed would be an understatement. I only saw the interesting content in passing, because I was so busy suffering through the ridiculous problems this game had. I'm certain many of them are fixed now, but the sheer quantity of them tells me this game will never recover. It's beyond saving when you can simply walk down the street and point out 20-30 bugs.

Please give examples of those bugs, I might tell you if they've been fixed or not. And if I can't, someone else surely can :)

I don't remember many of them, as it's been several years, but I'll list the ones I can think of.

    Data Mining
~ Nodes would be placed WAY up in the air, totally unreachable.
~ If you tried to mine it, and failed, the node still disappeared.
~ Placing two or more nodes too close together would result in them BOTH disappearing, even if you were only receiving data from one.

    Missions
~ Elevators were broken, and wouldn't transport between floors.
~ Often, the floor needed in a mission would be empty, or not exist at all.

Also, there were a lot of issues with the combat system at the time. It was a poorly thought out hybrid of turn-based and real-time. There was one mission in particular that I couldn't beat, because there were two mobs and whichever wasn't fist-fighting me would be shooting me in the back with a shotgun, while I was stuck waiting for my turn to punch the first guy. Since the shotgun mob could fire at will, and I was stuck waiting around, it was guaranteed death for me.

Perhaps the most frustrating of the early bugs was the "perma-evade" on NPC's when you are in the lower levels.

That was when an Enemy NPC went into a state that he could not be hit
or pulled into interlock, which meant if your mission target went into
this state, there is no way you could finish the mission.

    But, that's been fixed.

Another was that the Death Effect status would disappear, but the
penalities were still applied, even after the Death Effect Wore off.

    But, that's been fixed too.

One of the most annoying was the sound bugs. Endless loops of
helicopter blades, punching noises, gunshots, and cars roaming the
    street.

But, that's been fixed as well.

Ability timers, hardline crashing, crashing in general, fixed.

Lag is still an issue in some places, and depending on your machine, it could be the death of you.

I don't have a high powered computer in the least bit, but I can run high setting and pvp without much hiccuping.

Of course, someone hiccup is another persons full-blown hacking smokers cough.

It just depends on your "perception"

    Data
Mining has been completly fixed, as far as I know. However, it is going
to be a much more worth while tree now that a the new content known as
"luggables" is coming into the picture. :D

Missions are fixed for the most part. I only ran into a few spots of
trouble during the journey to 50, and if I did, I just aborted, and
restarted the mission, which solved the problem.

As for the combat issues, there are ways to get around too many Mission
NPC's on your back, if you decide to give the game a try again, I'll
pass what I know along to you. But, to answer your question, Interlock
is still there, and yes, in Interlock, you can only fight one person at
a time, apart from a few abilties having an Area of Effect. But, since
Combat Revision 2.0, it has since become much more streamlined and
effecient, compared to the old Interlock.

You forgot the HJ among the loop sound causes :)
Very annoying, but as you said, fixed.

Evade was, indeed, a huge problem when fighting boss NPCs (not only them, but those evaded most of all it seems - though I had hardly trouble in missions), or a pain in the eye when running through Richland after the gang reflow. But now that's it's removed from the game completely - fixed.

One comparable bug seems to be with the location of NPCs (in missions, mostly). It often happens when you aggro a hostile NPC and draw him away from its original location that you aren't able to perform any action on it for a while. Annoying, but hardly frequent.

It does happen sometimes that a mission area is empty, doesn't have a door and is unaccessible. I think that has to do with the area itself rather than the mission. I've experienced that only a few times.
I haven't run across any problems with missions that you named. There are little flaws like the mission floor not showing up in the elevator panel in rare buildings, though.

As for being interlocked and shot at the same time - well. When fighting more or less equal NPCs (who are generally weaker than the player), you have a chance to finish them off relatively quickly by using special attacks. The shoots of one NPC generally don't do enough damage to kill you before you finish off your Interlock opponent.
But that varies from situation to situation.

By the way, if anyone's going to bring up interlock animation bugs (you know, those where you suddenly started fighting into another direction or merged into your enemy because of a wall or just like that) - no, they have not been fixed. But CR 2.0 added some additional ones attached to specific moves. No fixing for months.

Sorry, just telling the truth :(

I honnestly don't understand why so many people hate the Matrix online. I found it to be a very decent title. Sure it could use a lot of improvement here and there, but what MMO doesn't? I don't think its the best mmorpg out there, but anybody who is intrested in those "city like" mmorpg's should enjoy the Matrix Online. it is, Imo, a very decent title.

This has alot of work to still do but over all its one of the best MMOS.

Now is a good time to check out the game, with their christmas theme and event going on.

Why is it a good time to check out the game when the three remaining Dev's are on a month long vacation and any interactive content has been shut down till they get off?

It sounds to me like its a horrible time to check the game out to be honest.

I'd love to see any valid proof knowing there's 3 Devs behind the game. You don't, you base it off who posts on the forums, not every Dev posts on the forums. More mindless bullshit from a troll who gets banned from most MxO forums so he comes here to preach to an already forum that has a skewed vision of the game, no doubt from you and your gang of misfits.

Even though they loaded up the christmas content before they left?

    Okay, whatever you say...

This game just lacked so much content early on that it did not gain popularity, people just left after lvl30 because there was too much of a grind. The mission system is pathetic. The only really good thing about this game was the potential for great role-playing. There is still a community for MxO but all it is made up of is newbies and people that only play it for the community/roleplaying aspects as there isn't very much else on offer.

Erm, I don't play it for community and roleplaying at all (although my forum posting would be community activity, but that's kind of separate from playing in my case).

I play it for the story. And I really enjoy its audiovisual aspects.

    Just pointing out.

Yea, they're on vacation, and have developed the christmas content beforehand. And I'm sure Rarebit's already working on the storyline for the next subchapter (well, I assume it).

Your last sentence is absurdity at its best. A new player who checks out the game has quite a bit of content that already exists in the game, they won't be looking for constant updates in the first place. Especially with the special winter atmosphere it has now, it's actually quite a nice time to check it out.

I'd have to agree with SeanDavis here.

The snow is just beautiful and the Yeti's are awsome looking!

Not to mention, Snowball fights, Collector Hats and Masks, and the all powerful, all orgasmic, Merv Cake!

The story is part of the role-playing aspect of the game.

What i was trying to say in my post is that compared to other mmorpgs, MxO is not worth the subscription fee due to its lack of content and the addition of new content has been very minimal since its release.

  • SeanDavisSeanDavis Member Posts: 412

Yea, maybe it's a part of that aspect.

But role playing is a player or a Dev actually playing a role in the game. The way you said it, everyone can think that it just offers a potential for player to RP, which isn't quite right: story missions can exist without RP aswell. They're nothing but pure developer content.

    Didn't want to nitpick.
