I have seen many negative posts and reviews on this game and I wanted to put in my 2 cents.
I have been playing this game for nearly 3 years, since early beta and I can say that YES it does have its issues like all MMOS. But the graphics are top notch the interaction you CANNOT beat. The fact people know who you are and your not just another face cannot be found in any other game. I know I have tried just about every MMO out there to find a second game to play on my off days of MXO. Nothing even comes close.
The world and texture is spectacular and rich. The PVP is fantastic and exciting and they have one of the only Live Events Experience out there. True the Live Events are scaled back and are not the same as they once were, but they still have them and you can't beat meeting and hanging out with the main characters of this series.
They have free trials go out get one, play you will see.
Three servers to try, one hostile two non. I recommend a non hostile server for your first character to get use to the game mechanics and the most populated server is now Recursion. So if your looking for a good REAL MMO experience.. Don't just stand there JACK IN.
Thanks!

I agree.
If you love the Matrix, this is the game for you. If you are just a fan of MMOs, try it out.
This game is one of the best graphically spectacular games out there, plus a few graphical masterminds in our community who just make it dazzling.
The community sticks together (with a few annoyances from time to time) but otherwise it's great.
if your looking for a game that will soak up your time like pampers nappies MxO is the game for you.
The graphix in tha game dont suk so much but they arnt THAT great. And anyways they are old nothing new has been put in for over a year cuz the main dev is to fucking retarded to know how to do any modeling....
Come on d00d this game sux in the grafix department cuz the devs got fired and theres no new content.
How can you call him retarted for that? If you master 3D modelling, it's because you've learned it. Not because it's a natural human ability. No one's retarted for not being competent in a specific area.
The neighborhood contacts and PB are content, no matter how we two like them or not. First, correct your statement to "content of poor quality", and then base this statement.
Right now, your statement doesn't really have a high value.
Just throwing this collection of other posts discussing 'whats changed?' and 'whats new?' out there.
"Like Sean said, a neighbourhood mob restructure had the mobs of richland AND westview (afaik), as well as re-laid out for a better natural level/city progression, were given a lot more personality with certain emotes, moods, and general trickery. International and dowtown have yet to recieve this treatment im afraid to say. But still, a definate improvement."
"but another thing worth mentioning is that CR2 brought about much more clearly defined and fleshed out leveled loot tables (as well as refined collectors, hideout and construct items) meaning theres useful stuff to be looking out for and hunting down every step of the way. Definately adds to the leveling process if you let yaself get into it. Especially if ya get into mixing clothing with specific loadsouts for the best combos etc."
"the item tables were made a lot more diverse in terms of buffs and looks, on top of that in general an emphesis was taken off needing so many buffs and more onto your characters key attribute points and loadouts to give em their core effectiveness. Basically the style vs strength problem was also largely fixed with CR2."
"Stability and lag are much improved.
CR2.0 balanced, streamlined, simplified and generally improved every sector of combat. Removed zero-sum (win-lose) fighting too.
Unnumerable bug fixes.
Many, many, many little features added/fixed. (more recent examples include /AFK, /frags and description change)
In-Game Email system. (doubles as extended storage)
Pandora Box Quests. (New content for level 30-50 With deep story, new models, new textures, new items, new locales. Also a lot of replay value)
Missions Archive. With several reward items including chapter specific special FX and org specific clothing (these span the entire game's storyline critical mission history, so thats... ~225 *this number has increased since this post was made* hand made missions.)
White hallways/Org specific meeting constructs. Now with level 70 combat sims modeled after major storyline characters such as Morpheus, The Assassin and The Twins which provide the game's ultimate end game combat challenge.
Prop Vendors (adding over 100 RP-useful prop items)
Zero One construct end game quest which pits player against player in a fight to get the most machine parts for the ultimate end game clothing item (with a brand new model/texture) the Area K Trench.
The devs have recently gone over all the game's old weapon textures and spruced em up with specular and bump mapping too."
"Oh, theres also a much more refined (be it to your tastes or not) story telling system with more emphesis on small episodic constant continuacies (the 5 critical mission packs have been spread over a one per week scheme and live events happen on a much smaller scale but nigh daily (check the LE boards) with a much greater interaction with players and direct relation to critical missions)"
"Stat Hack! Now player regret really is a thing of the past with your leveled gained attribute points now redeemable after running a mission brought from the archivists 'which will test your patience'"

I played the game and to be honest it has an awsome combat system. However the game is contentless and what little content it is makes you want to grab needles and poke your eyes out.
I´m sorry but sending me to a building into a random spawned room with mobs that look just like the ones i killed on the million missions i did before that one is not content.
They went he early AO, COH, SWG, random generated cheap crapola content. There is very little solid content and the the little bit of good content it has is so similar to the crappy content that it just feels like cheap trash. putting a few more words into a text box, giving a litte more xp, and saying it is a story line mission does not make up for having to do the same exact thing you were doing for non story line missions.
This game could have been good, even great. However it is not.

Been trying like a crazy person to find a trial for Matrix Online, but all there is out there si some buddy key system, and fivehundred old trials from several years back, now closed.
Not much chance trying it out then... If anyone got a buddykey, send it to: lordharafnir@hotmail.com
"This is not a game to be tossed aside lightly.
It should be thrown with great force"
And Denary... isn't that a machined screenshot? Sorry, I thought this was about the game's graphics, not our members' graphical skills (as much respect I have for them).

This "few more text into a box" is the mission's dialogue, which is a vital part of any storytelling. It's basically the most important aspect of story mission.
The phase scenarios are far from being as monotonous and uncreative as you describe.
Even when they are, the meaning behind them and the accompanying text gives the purpose.
This is not meant offensively in any way, but you don't seem to know quite well what you're talking about.
Admittedly, some if not most of it was correct at some point on some plain of understanding but now, many problems have been fixed and alot of new content has been added that you don't have to be a level 50 to participate in.
To those of you who tried the game when it first came out, come try it again.
Look for a buddy-key. As soon as I get mine, I'll be giving them away to anyone who wants them and is willing to give MxO another honest shot.
If you find yourself without any help, I'm sure most people within the community would be willing to help out. Just post on the Data Node One Forums, and someone will surely come help you out of a pinch.
But, remember, patience is a virtue. Don't become to frustrated if you don't receive help right away.

All I see there is buildings with the same textures just different colors and the windows reflecting something thats not even there, they tried to pull off HDRI mapping but failed miserably. Not to mention the trench coats look like plastic and the lower end of them are glued to your thighs making them look like cardboards when you run. A simple cloth simulation would have done the trick, but oh well, thats how experienced they are.
The best thing MxO has to offer is (or was, I haven't played in months) the community. I have never found guilds with online radio stations, get togethers post 2600 meetings or other events, and just general social type events.
The actual game isn't that great in any area. The creativity of the skill tree system is obliterated by cookie cutters even more so than other games. The graphics are a little above par, but the animations are sub-par. The combat revamp made things a little more varied and equal, but the missions lack any depth and fun.
If you love MxO, you can, and you may, but you don't have to defend the game at all points. I love the game myself, have played it for more then a full year, but I do admit that it lacks contact. The missions are repetitive and boring.
On the other hand, if you hate MxO (for whatever reason), you don't have to hate it on all points. Like the guy who says that screenshot has bad graphics, well point me out to a screenie of a MMO of the same type (so no fantasy or so) that looks better.
The game has some good things, the graphics are good, the skill tree system is awesome (my opinion), and the community is the best, great PvP (in combination with the great community)
Negative points: boring grind, lack of content, and last but not least the person who have been talked about earlier in this topic: Walrus.
The Illuminati Gaming Society
The trenchcoats really look like cardboards when you run, but as far as I know, they're the only clothing type with such a flaw.
I agree that the mission running process itself can get boring. Well, to me, it's mostly boring when I have to kill numbers of enemies - because when I talk to movie characters with highly impressive voice acting, see someone appear in the mission area with a flashy effect or just generally an interesting event scenario in a phase, I don't perceive it as boring.
Maybe my rather positive attitude to missions is caused by the fact that I archive detailed mission screenshots in a folder system, and don't always have to go through the process when checking out something. But I'd be careful before claiming they lacked any depth - the texts did contain philosopher quotes and some interesting social thoughts, and generally are well written; the storylines there often remain cryptic for several sub-chapters.
But sufficient for a rough judgement, I guess.
Maybe I'm overdoing with the numbers, and the screenshots aren't exactly representative for the city - but meh.
Some good 'raw' screenies there sean
One point i feel i should mention, and was tempted to make a new thread on, is the fact when people say 'the missions are boring and repeditive' i assume (and would request you label them as such in further discussion) they refer to standard missions.
I believe some clarification is needed. Standard missions in MxO are randomly generated content, you choose from a range of types which will change the generic dialogue and objectives and a difficulty setting of easy normal and hard (which will change the npc levels based on your own level accordingly). These missions are often mistaken as the games main, and only 'real', content. These are the game's grind. The main way to level. And the way most 'burn out' on MxO.
And i agree they're as boring and repeditive as f00k after a while.
But that isn't all there is.
There are 'critical' missions, one per org released each week, which, while based on the same basic principals of the mission system, offer situations and unique objectives and goals within the context of the continuation. These missions drive the story forward.
Thats another important thing i wanted to mention.
To me at least the main focus of MxO, and it's true source of content and enjoyment, is it's storyline. First things first, this is not a backstory or lore that is static and you simply play in. MxO's story is a continuation, an episodic ever unfolding story. To me, thats what makes it interesting. It isn't like in other MMOs where the quests merely fleshes out the story (though there are those too in the form of static quests ala most mmos), in MxO the story is always evolving and pushing forward in a true chronological sense. Simply put Its like one big interactive TV series. A continuation of the movies.
I feel if one is a fan of the storyline of the matrix, or just of the matrix universe in general, then these critical missions and that concept of a continuing story are more than enough to make the mission system not nearly as 'boring and repeditive'.
And err... thats all i can be bothered to write right now =P
