I cling to the hope that Vanguard will be good like classic EQ was. If I can recapture some of the awe I once experienced when EQ was fresh and untainted I desperately want that opportunity. To play a game that is both vast and challenging without the simplistic hand holding approach taken by corporate juggernauts like Blizzard.

I agree with you 100%   There hasn't been a real MMO that has captured my heart like the original EQ.  All the hand holding in current MMOs make me sick.  Its been 2 years since I've played EQ and I still remember the names of my closest friends in game.  The only thing that has come close to EQ for me was SWG Pre-Cu, the rest are a joke.

I couldnt agree with you more. It has been years since a MMO has hooked me likre EQ did. these new MMO's just dont do it for me like EQ did.  just researching VSoH has got me more excited then actually playing this last batch of games. I really hope that i we all wont be let down. Its time for the freedom to return to MMO's.

What do people not understand about Vanguard being made by sigil and SOE coming in after the completion of the idea phase of the game to simply fund and advertise it.  The rought the development team has taken with vanguard in no way reflects the ideas SOE would have for the game, setting aside of course the obvious mmo fantasy aspects of the game. anyways...STOP ASKING THIS QUESTION

I was counting on this game. If it will be shiet , there will be no decent mmo to play for another year... damnit

LOL, longer than that my friend. Try 2009/2010.

As has been said in many posts before.  Not everyone believes that the last few years in MMORPG's have seen positive progress.  The subscription numbers would seem to belie that point, but there are still players out there that are searching for "something else".  Is Vanguard it?  I hope so, but I'll have to wait a few more months to see for myself.

One fact people always seem to leave out when discussing subscription numbers and drawing comparisons between games YEARS apart is that other factors other than the quality and popularity of the game influence those stats.

In 1999 there a few  things specifically different where:

    1) A fraction of the population in the US were even interested in PC online gaming.

    2) Of that fraction, a smaller fraction had the PC to that would play it at the time.

    3) A smaller group still had a stable and speedy enough connection or a spare phone line to dedicate to hours of gaming. Dial up was still prominent.

4)There were several entire countries that were moving onto the net.

    5) Maybe most importantly is that the server side hardware at all levels was light-years behind what is implemented now. I'ld truly enjoy watching the data from a WoW server dumped on one of the first EQ servers and then choke the bandwidth down to 1999 levels. Now log in your kazillions of people and see what happens:)

The NDA will lift soon on this game.  Its been in beta for over a year now.  If you bought I $5 mag a while back then you've proly already got an oppurtunity to test this game.  You'll hear a lot more about Vanguard in the next month or 2. Most of it will be bad.  In more private forums people already talk about this game freely now, as the NDA is all but gone at the moment, and people testing it know it.  I'll just wait a bit to say how I feel about it.

I see some people here who rail on and on about how horrible it is and say they havn't played since Beta 2.5.  Bad news, the game has made leaps and bounds since then.  If you still had an account you would know this.  Sorry Brad pissed in your wheaties or whatever happened to make you such a bitter person.  Get over it, your opinion won't make Sigil Games collapse on itself.

They have taken down one entire continent for revamping, thanks to player suggestions they are making it a better continent now.

Average players logged in at any time, at least 800, hitting 1300+ on Weekends.

This isn't EQ 1.5, its not a WoW clone.  Its Vanguard, its not for everyone, but its damn fun for those willing to shut up and give it a spin.

I'm not sure which version of beta i had played all i know was that there was HUGE fps issues in the game when i attempted to test it.  Updating it now and will have to give it another try and see if things are better.  Overall i still have mixed personal opinions about trusting another game with a sony tag on it.

I say that long cause it feels very unfinished.

How exactly do you know what it feels like?

    To the OP

People talk about it as EQ3, rightfully so, if you ask me.

If you like no innovation, and the overly egocentric Brad, then this game is for you.

I personally can't wait to try it although I agree it does look similar to EQ. Guess there is only one way to find out.

funny thread.  Keep it up guys.  Oh, and while you guys are at it... why don't you create tons of mmorpg account and rate this game 0 ?

You don't like the game ?  Fine.

To the guy with fps problem... LOL.  You call yourself a beta tester ?  Why don't you learn to tweak settings and .ini files ?  Might be usefull if you get invited in more beta.

I know someone in LOTRO beta.... now this one i agree is a good laugh.
