Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

I expect this game to be a "must-buy"

Why?

Because it has been years without a halfway decent serious PvE game in the spirit of EQ.  Will the game have bugs or minor annoyances?  Don't know, but probably.

Still, the game will be a large serious fantasy world and that's what lots of folks have been waiting for.  Half the lure of EQ1 was "the world".  If this world is as vast as they say (and filled with good content), then it should be quite an experience.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I've been blowing $50 on new releases since I can remember, and I feel most right about this one.  Anything that can get me out of the Nickelodean cartoon world of WOW and back into a serious PvE fantasy world is worth a look.

Just my two platinum.

I agree.  But you know how to prevent yourself to be disappointed?  Don't have high expectations, go in expecting less, and you shall be surprised :)

I think it'll be a good game, mostly because it's taking a lot of ideas from other games and putting them into one.  Yes 2 years ago a game did this, and WoW was welcomed because they weren't afraid of taking ideas and turning it into their own.  Vanguard will have more ideas from other games, plus their own.  I don't really care about the "3rd gen" hype, I just want the fun features that I like to see into one MMO, kinda like how you hate to have to pay 3 different companies for your phone, cable, and cell phone bills.  If Vanguard can provide the fun, give me plenty to explore and more things to do than level&raid, I'll be happy.  So far it's looking good.

Please severely lower your expectations, thats all I can say.  I just don't want this game to cause you mental anguish when you finally play it.

There was a EQ1ish game, EQ2 at release was. It got bad reviews and walla WoW came out the following month and decimated the population. Fortunately for SoE they took this as a sign and made a LOT of changes to improve the game play.

If you expect VG to do any better than EQ2 at release, well... I think you're not gonna see it.

Vanguard is no longer in the spirit of EQ, it was in 2004 but not anymore. Major changes have taken place during 2006 towards a WOW-EQ2 type of game.

my opinion is it will end up as a niche game, best bet is to get it with a station pass that way you have EQII, Matrix and SWG to fall back on if you don't care for it.

if nothing else EQII is good. I think they sell the all access collection bundle for 40 bucks, VG would be extra right now but if you hold off a couple of months I am sure it will be included in the bundle also and save you ythe 50 buck box fee.

If you’re the kind of person that likes EQ2, then Vangaurd might actually be fun to you, and there's nothing wrong with that. But most people are going to be disappointed in this game, and it will likely have a very similar release to EQ2.

Vanguard probably is more like eq2 when it first came out then the way it is now, and i don't have a problem playing both games if vanguard is a good game. But i will wait for reviews more than likely to see what they have to say before i go out and buy the game.

Here's my opinion...V:SoH will set a new standard for MMO's partly because so little is actually known about the game. I mean they give us little tid bits of information here and there, but Sigil isn't even giving us the tip of the iceberg here, they're hiding something, and that something is quite big I believe. You'll all see and when the time comes when release happens you will all be thanking me for my intellectual input on everything. /bow take care!

LOrdAnus couldn't have said it better.  We haven't seen the "tip of the iceberg".  I'm certain we'll all be pleasantly surprised at what will be a wonderful game.
