Accounts & Characters
If I own more than one copy of Prophecies or Factions, will I need to purchase more than one copy of Nightfall?
Yes, if you have multiple Prophecies and/or Factions accounts, and if you want to access all the new content of Nightfall on each of those accounts, you will need one copy of Nightfall for each copy of Guild Wars and/or Factions that you own. The choice is yours, though, and you are not required to link any of your accounts with any others.
Will I be able to take my existing characters to the new areas in Nightfall? Do they keep their items, their levels, etc?
If you purchase Nightfall and add your access key to an existing account, you will be able to travel to the new land, Elona, with your characters from Prophecies or Factions. Inventory items, skills, and other possessions and attainments from previous campaigns remain yours and are useable within Nightfall.
What are the advantages of adding my Nightfall Access Key to my merged Guild Wars (original Prophecies campaign) and Factions account?
When you add the retail version of Nightfall to your existing merged account, your existing characters gain full access to the Nightfall content. You can travel back and forth between continents, gathering new skills and items from all three campaigns, using skills you find on one continent to help you complete quests and missions on the other continent.
Your existing characters can choose to take Dervish or Paragon as a secondary profession, or you can create a new Dervish or Paragon character and then travel back to the continent of Tyria to play missions from the original Prophecies campaign with that character or to Cantha to take part in missions and quests from Factions.
You can create PvP characters using a mix of professions, skills, and items from all three campaigns, and have access to the widest possible array of strategies for PvP. And if you own only one of the previous campaigns, you will gain comparable benefits on a smaller scale. Merging accounts gives you access to two continents, and the ability to choose the core professions and either two or four additional professions, depending on the combination of campaigns that you select.
How do I link my current account with Nightfall?
When you purchase Nightfall, you will find an access key in the package (or will receive an access key from the PlayNC website, if you purchase online). Simply open the Guild Wars log-in screen and follow the prompts to add the Nightfall Access Key to your Guild Wars account. Once you have done so, you will have access to all Nightfall content, as well as all content from the prior campaign(s) you have installed.
If I do not link my current account with Nightfall and I install Nightfall as a standalone game, can I link them together later?
No. You must make a decision about linking your Guild Wars/Guild Wars Nightfall accounts when you first set up Guild Wars Nightfall. We are not able to link or merge accounts at a later date.
If I install Nightfall as a standalone game, and I have no other campaigns installed and no current Guild Wars account, can I install previous or future campaigns at a later date?
Yes. We encourage players who enjoy Nightfall to add prior campaigns to their account at any time.
How many character slots does Nightfall offer?
Guild Wars players can gain character slots in a variety of different ways. The following is a breakdown of how these slots are acquired.
* Players acquire 4 base character slots with the purchase of their first Guild Wars campaign. * Each subsequent campaign purchase adds 2 character slots when linked to the original account. * Players may also purchase up to 26 character slots in the Guild Wars Official Store for $9.99 per slot. * Players can acquire 1 bonus character slot by redeeming a Nightfall Bonus Key, which is found in the Nightfall Pre-Order Edition. This key will be active upon release of Nightfall and the addition of a Nightfall Access Key.
If I do not purchase Nightfall, will I be able to create Dervishes or Paragons either as primary or secondary professions?
No. Dervishes and Paragons are exclusive to Nightfall and will not be accessible to players who have not purchased that campaign.
Will I be able to team up with Dervish and Paragon players if I don't buy Nightfall?
While you will not be able to create a Dervish or Paragon unless you purchase Nightfall, you will, of course, be able to interact with those who own Nightfall when you join cooperative ventures or competitive matches.
Will my characters from prior campaigns be able to equip Dervish and Paragon items?
A Prophecies or Factions character is able to equip any non-customized item. However, because the character lacks the associated attribute, the character's use of such items will not be particularly adept.
Can I trade my Nightfall items to those who do not own Nightfall?
Yes, you may trade items. However, such items cannot be equipped if they are customized items or if they are pieces of armor, which are always customized to an individual character.
Can people who own different campaigns play with one another?
Each campaignProphecies, Factions, and Nightfalloffers access to a specific continent or area of a continent. If you own just one of the campaigns, you will have access to that campaign's home area as well as the Battle Isles. If you and your friend own different campaigns, you can play with and against one another only on the Battle Isles. If you own three campaigns, but your friend owns only one of the campaignsfor example, your friend owns Nightfallyou can play together in Elona, the home region of Nightfall, and of course on the Battle Isles as well.
Will the character level ceiling of 20 be raised with Nightfall?
No, the maximum character level will remain at 20 for Nightfall. The level cap of 20 is a fundamental balance mechanism for the Guild Wars series, which offers games that revolve around player skill. The leveling system allows you to track your progress as you start a character. But by Level 20, your character is fully trained and is ready to experience the most exciting content in the game. Additionally, the title system give players something to work for after reaching the level cap.

It's skill-based, not stuff based, so basically, you reach the maximum level extremely fast, then you can get the perfect stuff in about "-£ days, and finally, you can go enjoy yourself in PvP where the only thing which will matter is the skills you'll have equipped (a bit like in Magic the Gathering, you have to choose 8 skills among a panel of 300+ skills) and the way you'll play them.
I've got Guild Wars (and Nightfall) almost 1 month now and this is what I can tell you.
You can play both PvE and PvP till now I've played mostly PvE and I'm still at a 5th of all missions. So there is more then enough PvE in Nightfall alone and I haven't even tried Guild Wars Core yet. There are usually enough players if you want to team up in a PvE mission. As for PvP I haven't got much experience with that yet since the only PvP I've done till know are the snowball fight of the winstersday event. Guild Wars has an event every know and then which will include a change in the looks of the major cities. New items, new quests and new PvP games. So there is a lot to do and can keep you busy for months. I do have to admit that you level up fast and I have reached lvl 20 yesterday that is within a month even though it was a very busy month for me, however reaching the max level doesn't mean your PvE times are over. You can still get skillpoints (never really use them though) and there are loads of enemies left to kill which are even above 20. Teaming up with others will become increasingly important for the missions keep getting more difficult. I haven't joined a guild yet, but what I can read from the messages there is loads of GvG too. This game contains PvE and PvP and new game content to keep you busy and without monthly payment (final factor that did it for me).
Yep... Built almost entirely around PvP... You can't even get into some of the end-game PvE areas unless your Continent has PvP favor.
Oh, and the new expansion Nightfall... well, the PvE in it starts acting like PvP too because eventually you'll waltz into quests and mission s you need just to get to the next town, only to get totally Owned 10 or 20 times. Infact, don't even try playing after you hit 20 in Nightfall unless you have an Elite Guild supporting you, or have a lot of personal experience in manipulating AI. Even the most expensive Items in the game won't help you if you're not Hardcore-Skilled.
Umm, the other 2 campaigns aren't nearly that tough tho, so don't be scared away if you're looking for casual gaming there...
Nightfall's just the most rewarding one to date because it gives you customizable "heroes" which are often times smarter than most of the n00bs you meet in P.U.G.s (pickup groups) and that gives you complete control over your battles
The only good thing about guild wars for most people is the PvE in prophecies. Save yourself a fortune and go find prophecies for $5 and enjoy the PvE
-- Note: PlayNC will refuse to allow you access to your account if you forget your password and can't provide a scanned image of the product key for the first product you purchased..... LOL

What do you want me to say back your cute little patronizing routine there? "Oh please Mr 1337 man, Teach me cuz I needz to 134rN 2 PL4y!!!"?? ...Want a fucking Medal of Honor because you've been playing this game a lot more than any casual gamer and you breezed right through it? No really, tell us just how easy it was for you, and why anyone who might fail these missions can't be taken seriously?
I've failed these missions multiple times with experienced Guildmates simply for the fact that most of the mission objectives are misleading as hell. Remember those old "Platformers" like Super Ghosts & Goblins, etc, that required perfect timing and Rope-Memory (tedious trial and error) to beat them? They can be like that, and that's before you even get anywhere near the Vortex area. Anyone who says they zipped right through all of it without so much as stumbling, is a fucking liar

wth ? i should not say this but i will yep it was easy for me , reach the end of nightfall in 3 days , i did skip all side quests and didnt map at all , just rushed to the end , becose i wanted too , im doind side quests and maping now slowly. this to say , yes nightfall requires more knolage , but for someone that as experience in gw, nothing that cant be done. if you are learning , go as slow as possible , there is a lot to learn , more then you can imagine.
iller, dude, if you think Nightfall PvE is hard you should've seen Factions monsters exploding in your face...
Seriously, nothing before the Realm of Torment is that hard (except maybe Master quests and a couple of Coop missions). You probably just need to learn to play better, or adjust your player/team build. Nightfall's "tutorial" is nowhere near as useful as the gentle progression Prophecies had, so you probably rushed too fast before actually getting acquainted with the game, like neoteo said.
Guild Wars is completely PvE or PvP. PvE and PvP are seperate games in and of themselves and there's no raiding ever! You can earn PvP skills while playing the PvE game or earn them while PvPing or just buy the PvP skills and jump right into PvP style play. In Guild Wars you can play to your playstyle without affecting how others play.
The OP looked to be trying to get a fleshed out answer so here goes my try.......
Well, the PvE is instanced meaning the missions are your team vs the map; you can solo with AI controlled players or group with others. Advantages are this eliminates loot stealing and the story missions can actually change the game world. Disadvantages is you lose some community interaction with the towns being the only non-instanced areas. That said the missions are fun and varied.
PvP is limited to special areas of the game world but lots of variety and very well balanced with lots of options, almost a game unto itself. Upper level PvP is mainly comprised of mostly experienced players that know the game mechanics very well so don't expect to be as good as the rest from the start.
Most if not all the character models are well done and most of the armors as well although their are not as many combinations to break the cookie cutter look as in other games. Color being the main variable. The world graphics are very well done as well. Maps do have off limit sections but are well designed for the most part.
The combination of dual professions give the class selection a large and varied selection that is further emphasized by only being able to equip 8 skills at a time. Common combinations that has skill sets with good synergy (I.E. they work well together) can be found easily across the web giving new players acces to ohers past experimentation on what works well.
The level limit is set to 20 and is reached fairly quickly giving new players a quick equal footing with the vets when it comes to health, equipment and magic points. That being said knowledge of the game mechanics and understanding what skils do is the key to the game and unlocking more skills basically just gives you more options not more power.
I have played since the orginial release date and have collected fissure armor and green items, completed all three campaigns with multiple characters opened almost all the skills through either capping or spending faction points. My guild is large and we regularly hold HoH and I still love this game.
A good guild goes a long way in how much you get out of the game just like many other MMO games. Yes, GW is an MMO. its mutliplayer, its massive in both game world size and palyerbase and its online. Its not a true MMORPG but most MMOs do a poor job of that anyway
Oh, and the new expansion Nightfall... well, the PvE in it starts acting like PvP too because eventually you'll waltz into quests and mission s you need just to get to the next town, only to get totally Owned 10 or 20 times. You ARE joking, right? Please tell me you are.
Haha I started to reply with something to the same effect Akaraxle but stopped myself....
Thx for the Restraint, but lets put this to Bed, can we? Now look, Akaraxle is very knowledgeable and has one of the clearest views of things in MMO's of anyone on this forum, probably a clearer view than the staff writers themselves. But what I'M SAYING is that he's speaking solely from privilege. MY problem is the implied elitism and disconnect to casual gamers.
DID Akaraxle beat the whole thing without failing any misisons multiple times? WAS he with PuG people like I was when I attempted several different missions? CAN he prove that the average players you're likely to encounter will have an "easy" time in Nightfall?
I don't know, only he can answer that in detail.
(PS: He made bogus assumption that I "learned to play" this game in Nightfall, blaming it on NF's lack of a tutorial. WRONG, I've been playing Prophecies off and on since its release. Second, if Factions is somehow more "difficult", then why do people go THERE to powerlevel?)
Still, i think no one has the freedom to speak from a position of power here. It's a forum. No matter how good you are and how easy you beat the game, you have to adapt.

Well, I thank you for giving me THAT much credit but you're wrong. I'm a GW veteran, sure, but I don't think I have "one of the clearest views of things in MMO's"... GW is in fact my very first MMO, if you count Diablo 2 and Neverwinter Nights out. All the other MMO's I speak of, I do because I've either: a) trialed them, b) talked extensively with friends that play them, c) played on unofficial servers (where allowed). I might prove valid points, but I'm sure many others here have a much broader view of what's going on
Look, I'm sorry I sorta attacked you in that way, but your statement about Nightfall PvE being too difficult tipped me off so much that I thought you were trolling.

Of course I did fail some missions, and I also willingly PuGged because I don't like doing cooperative missions all alone, but I consider failure and death as part of the game. I honestly don't think "failing" makes the game too difficult... difficulty in GW is more of a matter of how organized you must be to succeed. Remember the infamous THK? ANet nerfed it to oblivion because it was deemed too "difficult" and wiped countless parties, while I managed to pass it on my second attempt the first time around, thanks to a good group. And remember Elona Reach? Damn, I tried that mission seven times because we didn't know what to do, due to inexperience. I apologize for implying you would be a newbie, but really, Nightfall isn't that hard. I think you're just having a hard time with PuGs; you should try getting a good friend and attempt a "hard" mission with 6 heroes. I went through the whole Realm of Torment with a guildmate, and trust me: defeating the two endgame bosses (trying not to spoil here) and Abaddon was so ridiculously easy that I asked myself how people could get stuck there. Of course we had Wild Blow and Spoil Victor, but still... we were two humans plus six AI heroes and we had an easy time, and two good players don't make a whole team good. The truth is, heroes played better than a group of 8 humans not succeding there.
It's like comparing say football and tennis. Both are sports yet you can't say one is better than the other, since they are based on completely different mechanics.
Anyway, 2 keywords for Guild Wars: "Balance" and "Freedom of choice"
Think of it as a very elaborate version of rock-paper-scissors.

Main interest in GW is PvP, but some also PvE.

Anyone who says they zipped right through all of it without so much as stumbling, is a fucking liar
wth ? i should not say this but i will
yep it was easy for me , reach the end of nightfall in 3 days , i did skip all side quests and didnt map at all , just rushed to the end , becose i wanted too , im doind side quests and maping now slowly. this to say , yes nightfall requires more knolage , but for someone that as experience in gw, nothing that cant be done.
if you are learning , go as slow as possible , there is a lot to learn , more then you can imagine.

iller, dude, if you think Nightfall PvE is hard you should've seen Factions monsters exploding in your face...

Haha I started to reply with something to the same effect Akaraxle but stopped myself....
....but it was a joke...right?

I honestly don't think "failing" makes the game too difficult... difficulty in GW is more of a matter of how organized you must be to succeed.Remember the infamous THK?
