For the age of the game, I was very suprised how decent and playable the 3d client is, its almost chalk and cheese to the 2d, very exciting stuff - and compared to that, the new re-vamp with KR looks AWESOME!!! Sure, its the same style of isometric graphics, but the DETAIL!!!!! With the depth of UO, it looks sure to be a winner - better than Diablo 2 and Sacred!!! I cant wait!! Bring on 2007!!!!

I agree.  I've always played the 3d client since it was available.  Not sure why others don't like to play it, its not like it takes a toll on your computer.  I've never had any trouble running the 3d client vs the 2d client

I've recently come back to UO, and I prefer the old 2d client.  I don't think there is enough detail in the 3D version.  I am looking forward to the new 3D graphics coming next year.

For me it has never been about the graphics when it comes to UO.  It has always been the most exciting PvP game I have played, although I'm not sure if that is still the case after some major changes . . .

I think I'll try out the 3D client again and give it another try, though.

I agree that playing UO has never been about the graphics, and I did use to love the PvP system although I stopped PvPing as much since Doom and all the crazy items.  I still enjoy the game because I am in a great guild.  I occassionally PvP but not near as much.  I currently mainly play on my treasure hunter, but I also dungeoneer quite a bit.

the 2d client still attracts me a lot even if i have tried all kinds of 3d graphic game like wow etc. just love the old uo setting more . love the all felccuia rule set even if i don't pk in there.

What are the different rulesets?  I am curious, and will look up more on the rulesets tomorrow.  I didn't even realize there were options . . .

I liked the old rules, so whatever ruleset comes closest to that will be the one I play.  UO does have such a great atmosphere, but a big part of that for me was the suspense of being in a totally free and unpredictable environment.  I wonder if its still like that.

There is no difference in ruleset between the 2d and 3d client, just the difference in graphics

That much I figured, but I hear talk about Feluccia ruleset?  What's that and how is it different from the ordinary one?  When I logged in, I didn't get any options about which ruleset to play in.  I guess it depends on the server you choose, like most other mmorpgs.  I chose the Catskill shard.

I've never played UO... but as a new subsciber to Morph.com and reading about various games, have become interested in the game.  Is any free trial available to try it?  I've not seen any UO software at local retail outlets.

5-Year vet to UO but I haven't played the game in years. But about the rulesets, each server has two identical worlds or "facets." Both have the same towns and world map. They're like mirror images of each other. One of the facets is called Fellucca. Here, players can openly kill and steal from other players outside of the town guards' protection. The other facet is Trammel. No player-killing or thieving is allowed here. There are benefits of being in Fellucca though. I can't remember them all, but theres more room to place a house in Fellucca than in Trammel, and you gather twice as many resources there. There are other facets on each server but none look-a-like like Trammel and Felluca.

They have a free 14-day trial on their website. Click here and it's on the right side. I think they have a new 9th anniversary collectors edition in most stores.

Yeah, in order to move between trammel and felluca you have to go to a town moongate.  These are usually located just outside of the town boundaries.  Once you step into it you can choose which facet and town in that facet you want to go to.  Felluca is open PvP while trammel there is no PvP.  Check out http://uo.stratics.com to read up on the game.  In Felluca you harvest 2x resources and I think that monsters have more loot (?), not sure about that tho, check the stratics website.

It does not matter what shard you play on, each has the same facets and cities and rulesets, except siege perilous.  Siege has felluca rulesets, but I am unsure if Siege has the same facets as the others.

Back in the "good 'ol days" you had to a find a special rock called a moonstone. You place it on the ground and a gate to the other facet would open up :)

Yup.  Now moonstones don't spawn anymore I don't think and you can simply recall between facets for the most part.

i also look forward to KR, but for now I have to say I prefer the 2D version. I started out with the 3D until I saw some screenies from 2D. Much nices details! 3D looks at times very pixelish, horrible even. So you can zoom with 3D and the bags are a bit bigger/better, but that seems to be about it. I am glad people from the Stratics forums convinved me to try the 2D.
