So here's the thing, I know hardly anything about FFXI as far as the classes go, so I just got a simple question. What would be a good sub class for dragoon? Would dragoon-monk work?

Not that I really care, I'd find out pretty quickly once I got the game, IF I get the game. It's hard to resist though, since I'm tempted to try it out, just to know what it's like and add another mmorpg title to the wall. Also I've been saying "soon as FFXI puts in PvP I'll give a damn" so... Looks like it's time for me to give a damn, and give FFXI my $40 and a month of my life. Then back to waiting for WoW. =D

btw, plz avoid discussing any pro's or cons of the game. All I'm asking for is class combo's for Dragoons. If you can't be mature, plz don't post on this thread.

I played a Dragoon/war and it was a pretty good combination, and it's a commonly seen one. TTyL TTFN!

Thing about being a dragoon/thief is that, yeah, sneak attack does good damage, but you can only do it once every few minutes. The damage you'd do consistantly as a dragoon/warrior probably more than likely will be more than that one attack you can do every few minutes.

Yeah it is basically if you want to take 3/5 of the mob's health in one hit and survive the battle or wittle the enemy down very slowly and absorb their blows with ease. If you want to tank, easily go with WAR though.

One thing to think of when you pursue dragoon: Your pet dragon takes on the aspects of your split class. Just keep this in mind when looking for a good class combo with Dragoon. For instance, if you are a Dragoon/Fighter, your dragon will be combative. If you are a Dragoon/White Mage, your dragon will be casting healing spells on you. I hope you find something you like.

Can I get some comments on the dragoon-monk though? How baddly would I be gimping myself? And any idea what kind of traits the pet dragon would pick up?

Well, I mean, there's really no way to gimp yourself. You can't make yourself worse, you can only make yourself better. I really don't think that dragoon/monk is a good combo, though. Monk just doesn't add much to dragoon.

What class, class combo is most like a shadowknight from Everquest? I played as a druid for 56 levels, but got bored, played an SK to 30 something and it was so fun being able to beat the shit out of people with the bonus of a few helpful spells. I know the game doesn't work like that, and i haven't got it yet.. 4 days to go... but thats kinda what i want from the game. Or if some one knows of a combo that does enable you to solo better than the rest that would be great too cos I am in the UK and will be playing at UK times and that was the hardest thing about playing on an american server in EQ... I had to be up till all hours of the morning to actually play with people.

Was that a thought I just had, or and echo of a thought I was thinking of having?

Without you UK-European players I would always have to solo.

I'm West coast USA, yet I play from 9pm-6am. If I can find groups, so can you. Besides I'd be counting on you to be there, the swedish especialy have gotten me many a level on mmorpgs.

the closes job to shadowknight would be dark knight. As for dragoon/monk not much benefit seeing how monk specializes in hand to hand combat, and unless you plan on tanking which dragoons are not good at, with monk you'd have higher vit=higher def, and plus the occasional counter attack. As for dragoon/thf, i grouped with one as a drg/war and i consistently out damaged him all the time, the higher dex, is no plus for higher str.

Pld/war=major tankage

Sam/war with spear skill at 150 (penta thrust ) is very deadly.

Sweet thanks for your help. I found a lil bit about the classes on the FF site.. at last.. fucking hard to navigate that site. lol.

I was wondering.. these extra jobs... are you allowed to have both of them as your class...

say if I wanted to be a dark knight... and i dunno.. a ninja so i can duel weild, or beastmaster so i can have a pet.... is that possible..

and is their a resource where I can look up the quests to do this?

Well for dark knight you can use ninja for your sub, its not really worth it, you're all about damage, and the best weapons are gonna be great sword, or the scythe. As for beastmaster as a sub job, you wont be able to tame high lvl mobs, but if u just wanted a pet then go for it.

Its really up to you, if you wanna do drk/nin or drk/bst more power to you for breaking out of the norm. And if you happen to do this tell me how it works.

You could try http://www.gamefaqs.com and look for it.

If your gonna do beastmaster, which is probably the only true class that could solo, then do bst/pld for a major def boost and some healing magic.

cool. I get the game tomorrow.

I think i am gonna try to be a dark knight with beastmaster as a sub for fun... and maybe something else aswell. I want a pet for a laugh more than anything. But i guess I will look into making some superior dammage. Or maybe i will try that BST/PLD combo, hey maybe i will just do it all and find out what works best hehe.
