If you have onboard graphics Intel(R) Extreme. Even with NVIDA upgrade. It will not work. I waisted my money to buy the game and expansions set. Beware!
Well first of all you might want to read system requierments before you buy a game, not a lot of people have an onboard graphics card even less one that is incompatible with various games.
You might also want to try a last resort google for "Windower" it's a software that will render FFXI in a window, according to SE you are not allowed to use this but for the most part they don't care and it might help you out.

...Sorry but "onboard graphics Intel(R) Extreme" does not count as a graphics card when it comes to any sort of games, you got ripped off by the seller. What does "NVIDA upgrade" even mean?
You could buy a standalone graphics card to play the game since I cant think of any 3d-game from the past 4 years able to be played by an "onboard graphics card".
Yeah onboard is trash, you could probably get a 50 dollar card online that would play FFXI decently. Most people who have any knowledge of PC gaming know onboard is trash and won't play much of anything.
I have Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset with 128 MB shared memory. I could play F.E.A.R with low settings of course. It might be the reason cuz I have Core 2 Duo (Centrio Duo).
Here are some games I could play with Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset:
1. Archlord
2. Cabal Online
3. WoW
4. Gundam PC (I am shocked, it worked; this game must be CPU dependant).
5. F.E.A.R
6. Counter Strike Source --> it hasn't been confirmed, but I doubt it will work.

You can also play Guild Wars with that video card., I have one in my laptop by Dell. Great Laptop except for the video card, but it does still play some games.
Onboard graphics is like 56k. Some have to use it but these games are made for fast lines and top graphics. Your black & white tv will most likely not show HD either.
Im just gonna say, i also have an Intel(R) onboard graphics card, its a piece of crap its a 910GL and only has about 190Mb of memory, and I am still able to play any of the graphics heavy MMO's, so either you're behind the times with a.... 9 year old graphics card and are too cheap to buy a new one, or just need to install your current drivers, that could be what keeps you from playing.
And with all due respect, don't bash a game cuz your computer is too crappy to play it, alright?
