I just wondered how the PvP is in this game. Class balance, open zones or instanced combat, full loot or any other penelties, that sort of thing. Thanks /// Vasilii

Hi there, have not done much pvp so far but will try to answer your questions.
There are 3 modes of pvp if you like, tavern brawls, capture the flag and deathmatches.
For the tavern brawls, you enter specific taverns and just jump right in to the arena, no lvl restrictions. You can spectate also here if you wish, is basically a free for all.
For the CTF and Deathmatch you enter a queue, similar to wow and are put into a group when enough people join up. CTF is set in a large outdoor environment, winner is the ones who capture the most flags, deathmatch is usually in a largish indoor environment and the team with the most kills in the alloted time wins.
Thankfully, there is no class balancing apart from caster aoe spells in tavern brawls only,( tavern brawl area's are quite small and casters would fry everyone alive with aoe damage spells) i know blind is disabled too in tavern brawls only. Though there is no balancing as such, the classes are, I think, remarkably balanced. If you don't want to be affected by a particular spell such as blind which requires a fortitude save, then you boost your fortitude stat and so on.
There is no looting of corpses etc or penalties for dying. There is a pvp leaderboard which is updated quite frequently. PvP in DDO is more of an add on but I think it is brilliant, especially CTF and Deathmatch because the tavern brawls tend to be dominated by the higher lvls, 11 and 12 etc and they are gods compared to my lvl 4 wizard and sorcerer.
I don't know how mulitclass characters fare in pvp, perhaps, someone else can comment, I haven't taken my Ranger/Wizard in there yet!
You must not leave until you free Arlos and have gathered your party safely in this hallway.
The DDO pvp isnt much to brag about.. you shouldnt start playing DDO becuase of the pvp, mainly its partly broken and will prolly stay that way to. There is to much of spells/abilites which render you helpless, which means it all comes down to your saves and lucky rolling. class balance is way off to.. poor rogues lol I think and hope turbine wont try and fix the pvp and break the PvE while doing it. no..DnD rules are for grouping and questing, not pvp, imo

QFT.
It's next to impossible to create a class-based-character game that has meaningful / balanced / and fun pvp. A game would have to be skill-based to work in pvp. (well, if we go even lower than that, you got CSS or UT, which we know works for pvp). So skill-based... hundreds of skills to choose from, and an open-pvp world where THE PLAYERS are responsible for the creation of good pvp toons. That's not D&D...

Okey thx, it seems to me that it will be impossible to make a good and solid combination between PvE and PvP (I know WoW is a complete failure) and that somewhat sad as i like to do both, but as PvP is my "must have" I won't join you all in DD.

I saw the little advertisement here on MMORPG.com saying "Real PvP" for DDO so I had to jump over here and see what it was all about since when I was looking at DDO, just before it came out, they were saying DDO would not have PvP. From reading here, it sounds like an interesting implementation of it. I could only imagine the posts on the official forums of people complaining about class balance. I guess people still don't get the whole class based system.
PVP is balanced enough in WoW once you understand your class. No game can get a perfect balance at both pve/1vs1 pvp and mass pvp between all classes. WoW is closest I found and its balanced around team play pretty perfect for me. L2 was too at some point pretty balanced around team play but cant say now .. havent played it in the last few months.
Do at least get some rewards for engaging into PvP combat, or is this a PvE game with just some fun on the side?
Dude before you go any futher. We3 lied to you on one part. The pvp is imbalanced. The top 3 classes are the cleric, sorcerer and wizard for obvious reason. Paladin is the 4th highest and Rogues, Fighters, Bards and Rangers are the lowest classes in the pvp ladder. I'm not telling you this to bash the game, but I'm telling you so you won't fall for false fanboy advertisement. If you don't believe me go to offiicial forums ask around for yourself. The last thing you want to be is a fish out of water in PvP.
Bards is one of top PvP classes in DDO, but the rest fits the glove
Uh, no. He has a low HP (Average of 7 HP per level, plus or minus one point), low AC, and a bunch of will saving spells. He can probably curbstomping a fighter, Ranger or rogue, but I have a hard time seeing him doing that to Barbarian or Paladin, especially a Paladin.
For a trial user, you sure know alot about this game. but anyhow... bard, as you say has many will saving spells, which is very good.
- Very good PvP spells, like hypnotism, hold, stun, ottos dance, haste etc - nice saves in will and dex. low fortitude, but has buffs to make up for it. - Maybe the best buffs in game. - heals - and last but not least.. facinate ability. can be prefored while running (on haste), no saves for victim... victim rendered helpless.
while victims are under hypnotism, or facinate, bards can spamm hold untill it hits. and it will not break the mess. even tanks with alot of hits cant outlive 3+ secs while holded. they use weapons with puncture ability, which cause D6 damage to your CON on every hit. thats 4 strikes and your dead on an average... even with 230+ hits...
bard are deadly in pvp... i see it, i play one acouple days a week. but truth be told...i havent pvp'd inn weeks

1. Hey genius, I don't know if you know this, but you can find all the spells on ddo.com official page.
2. I've played PvP in this game and NWN and the bards is still useless in pvp.
3. Heals do you know good when you fighting a Fighter with GreatAxe doing 22 damage per hit up to 46 damage per critical. A bard gets 84 to 96 HP at level 12. More if the bard is lucky enough to buff.
4. Heals? Only clerics can heal unless you're reffering to their songs.
5. You have nothing to kill your opponent with and they can breaks hold (and other will saving spell) as they get will saves every 3 seconds.
6. WoW! PvP in Inn gives you real insight considering the PvP in inn is handicapped. Play a deathmatch and you'll see what your character is really made of.

okey, you are obviously totally clueless. so, no point in going any further. your post speaks for itself
4. Heals? Only clerics can heal unless you're reffering to their songs.
Yes he is certainly clueless. Bards get a healing spell from level 1. And it is not song related, it works in the exact same fashion as the Clerics. I know this because my two main characters are a Cleric/Paladin and a Bard.
Just keep continuing to prove to everyone that you don't have a clue about the game. Go back to playing Runescape.

Of course he's clueless, who in their right mind is going to take DDO advice from someone who thought that the Waterworks was a lvl 5 dungeon, Kobolds were the only monster you fought until level 5 and best of all, someone who beat the warforged titan 3 months ago on a 10 day trial when no-one was able to beat it until the 25th October 2006! LOL

No, I don't play Bard. I play Wizard, Sorcerer, Cleric, Paladin, Ranger and Fighters. My opinion for this game Barbarians and Rangers. Sorry I don't see the level heal spell on the site, but if it, it's a level 1 spell so it sucks. So you guys would die in 3 to 5 hits.

No we don't die in 3 or 5 hits. As you said you haven't even played a Bard, so you don't have a clue. And we get healing spells above level 1.
By the way what level/rank is each of your characters? Inquiring minds want to know.

If I use Great Axe 3 to 5 hit can kill you. Great Axe does 1d12 (12 maximum) damage and 3d12 (36 maximum) damage on a critical. Plus Weapon Specialization and Great Weapon Weapon that gives you up to +6 points and your strength score if you can get it up to 18 for +4 points. That's 22 for a regular hit up to 46 points of damage. And I haven't discussed the damage that be done with an enchanted weapon. So 5 regular hits to 2 criticals and mortal blow (regular or critical) will kill a bard.
4. Heals? Only clerics can heal unless you're reffering to their songs.

I love how you completely fail to figure in buffs, armor bonuses, etc. If anyone was stupid enough to sit there naked and make no attempts to lessen the damage maybe, but that wouldn't be the case.

Bards can't cast spells in Heavy Armor and Fighter is going to have +12 AB +4 AB from strength +3 from Weapon Focus and Great Weapon Focus. That's +19 AB altogether. Whether you're nake or not, wouldn't even matter if I threw enchanted items or attribute enchancing weapons, the result would still favor a fighter. They also get boost too as well as rings that allow them to resist will saves. I didn't want to throw that in because the argument go into semi-infinite regression of stupidity.

I am new to pvp also, i dont know about rewards.
But i know you start doing pvp with 1000 points wen you lose you lose some points, wen you win you get points.
On DDO web site you have a top 100+(i am not shure about this number) players with most pontuation.
