Problem is the normal game developer prefers to go with the tried and tested Everquest formula of PvE and instanced zones.
The only game that comes close to being about PvP and being fantasy based is Guildwars tho because its entirely Instanced [excluding the Towns which act as chat rooms] its not a true MMORPG rather its a CORPG which stands for.
Competative Online Role Play Game.
At least thats what Guildwars devs call it, so all the arguments from guildwar fans who insist that it is an MMORPG sort of lack a decent answer to what there devs ahve said.
Which is why i remind them of the fact each time a G fan says its a MMORPG

I tried this myself twice because im a Final fantasy fan like many others, Now one of the things the game says it has is dynamic moving PvP and PvE as in dodgind and moving about. Well i can say this is complete nonsence while you can move about it doesant affect how well you are hit even if You out run then they can still hit you from far away.
Sadly i found this aprt of the game poorly exacuted overall.

hmmmm i seee
is the pvp fun tho?
are ther certain "pvp zones" or how does it work
becuz yes im a huge FF fan but i dont wanna make a bad buy at the same time
Open PvP system , has it rewards and downs ofc, more than 5 pk and you will drop ur items like a fat kid on a cubcake, unless you summon a specific pet and work off ur PK's , red and below 5 pk's and you don't drop stuff , thats a good thing tho
playing time ( 1½ year + ).
Eve Online has it plus's and minus's , its open pvp , low sec system and ur pretty much screwed if you run into a gang of pirates that think their uber roleplayers , either pay them or die ( etc. etc. ) or outrun them if you can before they lock you down. playing time 1 year + )
World of Warcraft , well even tho it has Pvp servers its still kinda carebearish for some people, if it just was open pvp so you could go all in on someone on ur own faction im pretty sure it would own, and it would keep the kids away from the game. playing time 1½ year + )
SwG , well the ol' school pvp pretty much rocked, i have no idea what happened to the pvp side of the game after NGE and all that since i quit playing and moved on. playing time : ( 2 years + )
Vanguard SOH - I was a beta tester but stopped playing , but ive heard they have made a pvp server with open pvp on eachother with no penalties, that should be interesting, and the game is pretty okay, was easy in the start to lvl but now they made it kinda lineage ii with endless grinding without going anywhere. - playtime ( 6 months + )
Well that was my 10 cents about what games ive played recently and what i like about their pvp system
EQ2 is pretty standard PVP. similar to WOW's in that its "good side" vs "evil side" , but if you're really just out to kill people you can also be an exile (Which does have its drawbacks) and just kill everyone. I'd investigate the forums of any game you think sounds interesting about its PVP.

I'd have to say SwG , the community there and the people in it, the best ever, i had such a good time when i was playing swg, enjoying it to the max, can't really describe it, but the game really "bite" on to me, got caught in the moments, sometimes even tho im no RP'r at all i could really live my self into it, but that was before CU and NGE , before SOE ruined the game , but a new private community is trying to get a Pre CU server up and running

yeah im trying to find a game that i can really enjoy
as much as i love the Final Fantasy series
im hearing way too much negative stuff about FFXI so idk if ill enjoy it so im stuck on what to play
Lineage 2, ShadowBane (free), EVE (takes 3 months minimum to get in any decent PvP), DAoC, Starport (free, twitch based)
lineage 2 looks really fun
any problems with it?
If you like endless grinding for XP , then its the game for you, if you don't get bored out of ur mind grinding the same mobs for months and months, well then its the game for you , but PVP wise, Lineage II is Open PVP , if you wanna pk someone then u just pk him, but ofc u get a penalty for it
er i'm surprised nobody brought up Guild wars..... its pretty good since the whole game is based upon pvp. with guild ladders, factions, and various classes this is sure a winner. They have large multi-roomed pvp arenas and a lvl limit so that everyone is fair game. I say, aside from EVE cus it looks kewl, that guild wars is a pvp winner because of it forcing players to plan a strategy rather than just becomming super powerful and slaughtering many.
EQ2= not to good lacking skill in fighting ! And to many servers always asking Freepont check hehe!
SWG= ok but not many ppl and i dont like space games
Planet SIde = good but lacking ppl
WWIIONLINE = real good but lacking ppl
Shadowbane = ok but old
GiuldWars = no good just good graphics
RYL no good did not play long to see anything else wrong with it
D&D = sucks
EvE= ok if you like space i dont like space
Lineage2 = good pvp but nothing else
WOW = not to good got boered real fast!
FFXI = ok
RF Online not good
Ryzom = good
Horizons = ok
darkandlight= sad
Rappetz = real good playing right now haha and its free hehe
The one that may be the best ever Maybe DarkFall but will see.
Next game i got eye on after darkfall is Conan !
Thats me but so far i like rappetz .
I like games that are real good coded , like if i use a sword then i get good with sword . if i take off armor then i want to die fast not get hit the same amount of damage as if iam still wearing armor.
Rappetz did a real good job codeing there game as i see it today i played more mmos but just forgot some of them,
Comments
EVE - It's entire system is based around PVP. Full loot drops (sorta) and pretty much open PVP anywhere, except High Sec.
A Work in Progress.
Add Me
whats eve about?
any other games?
Nope, everything is carebear.
A Work in Progress.
Add Me
yeah for some reason EVE doesnt appeal to me
so theres not one other game that has a decent fun pvp system?
