EVE - It's entire system is based around PVP. Full loot drops (sorta) and pretty much open PVP anywhere, except High Sec.

yeah for some reason EVE doesnt appeal to me

    depends.

Problem is the normal game developer prefers to go with the tried and tested Everquest formula of PvE and instanced zones.

The only game that comes close to being about PvP and being fantasy based is Guildwars tho because its entirely Instanced [excluding the Towns which act as chat rooms] its not a true MMORPG rather its a CORPG which stands for.

    Competative Online Role Play Game.

At least thats what Guildwars devs call it, so all the arguments from guildwar fans who insist that it is an MMORPG sort of lack a decent answer to what there devs ahve said.

Which is why i remind them of the fact each time a G fan says its a MMORPG

    i see...

    Concerning FFXI

I tried this myself twice because im a Final fantasy fan like many others, Now one of the things the game says it has is dynamic moving PvP and PvE as in dodgind and moving about. Well i can say this is complete nonsence while you can move about it doesant affect how well you are hit even if You out run then they can still hit you from far away.

Sadly i found this aprt of the game poorly exacuted overall.

    Lineage II

Open PvP system , has it rewards and downs ofc, more than 5 pk and you will drop ur items like a fat kid on a cubcake, unless you summon a specific pet and work off ur PK's , red and below 5 pk's and you don't drop stuff , thats a good thing tho :)

    playing time ( 1½ year + ).

Eve Online has it  plus's and minus's , its open pvp , low sec system and ur pretty much screwed if you run into a gang of pirates that think their uber roleplayers , either pay them or die ( etc. etc. ) or outrun them if you can before they lock you down.  playing time :( 1 year + )

World of Warcraft  , well even tho it has Pvp servers its still kinda carebearish for some people,  if it just was open pvp so you could go all in on someone on ur own faction im pretty sure it would own, and it would keep the kids away from the game. playing time :( 1½ year + )

SwG , well the ol' school pvp pretty much rocked, i have no idea what happened to the pvp side of the game after NGE and all that since i quit playing and moved on. playing time : ( 2 years + )

Vanguard SOH - I was a beta tester but stopped playing , but ive heard they have made a pvp server with open pvp on eachother with no penalties, that should be interesting, and the game is pretty okay, was easy in the start to lvl but now they made it kinda lineage ii with endless grinding without going anywhere. - playtime ( 6 months + )

Well that was my 10 cents about what games ive played recently and what i like about their pvp system

EQ2 is pretty standard PVP. similar to WOW's in that its "good side" vs "evil side" , but if you're really just out to kill people you can also be an exile (Which does have its drawbacks) and just kill everyone. I'd investigate the forums of any game you think sounds interesting about its PVP.

I'd have to say SwG , the community there and the people in it, the best ever, i had such a good time when i was playing swg, enjoying it to the max, can't really describe it, but the game really "bite" on to me, got caught in the moments, sometimes even tho im no RP'r at all i could really live my self into it, but that was before CU and NGE , before SOE ruined the game :( , but a new private community is trying to get a Pre CU server up and running :)

    Good PvP:

Lineage 2, ShadowBane (free), EVE (takes 3 months minimum to get in any decent PvP), DAoC, Starport (free, twitch based)

If you like endless grinding for XP , then its the game for you, if you don't get bored out of ur mind grinding the same mobs for months and months, well then its the game for you :p , but PVP wise, Lineage II is Open PVP , if you wanna pk someone then u just pk him, but ofc u get a penalty for it :)

er i'm surprised nobody brought up Guild wars..... its pretty good since the whole game is based upon pvp. with guild ladders, factions, and various classes this is sure a winner. They have large multi-roomed pvp arenas and a lvl limit so that everyone is fair game. I say, aside from EVE cus it looks kewl, that guild wars is a pvp winner because of it forcing players to plan a strategy rather than just becomming super powerful and slaughtering many.
