Personally I think the graphics are fine, as well as the character customization. However, I probably won't be getting Vanguard. I had high hopes, but they've been a bit shattered after my own recent personal experience. I agree that if you wanted to play EQ with updated graphics, then this game might appeal to you.
With that said, I agree with some of the others that said you shouldn't listen to all the negativity from the beta leakers. I have never preordered an mmo in the past, nor will I in the future. I suggest you wait til the game is released or you get into beta to find out the truth. Just because several people dislike the game doesn't mean that you will. Many people had their hopes pinned on Vanguard, so it is not surprising if some of the leaker's comments are a bit inaccurate.
Bleh half the leaks seems intrestingly to have found their way to Fires of heaven forum which is a very nasty and notorious guild of "i am so elite " players.
I had the misfortune of dealing with them in EQ1 sadly .They will bash every mmorpg they are not actively on and when the flip flop their last mmorpg is "terrible" .
I don't know about the rest of those points but I think the graphics look fantastic. You really need to see some of the latest screenshots from the game.
Yes, if only the game didn't have motion when you played it then it would be better. Unfortunately this is not the case. The graphics aren't terrible in game, but they're certainly not helping matters for a game that has so few positives in other areas.
If the beta leak you linked was in May, that's 7-8 months old. Do you know what that means? That means it's at least 2-3 beta phases old. Back then the game was in the concept stage being tested for some of the very very basic elements, and most of the skins weren't done, animations weren't done, and mostly people saw placeholders. If you want to listen to beta leaks that old, that's your right to. But if you haven't been following beta, you should know that the most recent beta (beta 4) they've improved the game by A LOT. Part of the reason for such a big improvement was due to them temporarily hiring SOE devs to help them finish the game.
Go find some creditble beta leaks that came out after beta 4, then you have a reason to post about it and be concerned. But even then, you know people will still come back to remind you that we are still a beta phase away from being close to retail. Nobody's saying Vanguard is going to all of a sudden be the king of MMO's, and nobody's saying you are guaranteed to like the game. But if you really are interested in giving the game a fair chance, then listening to 7-8 months old beta leaks isn't the way to do it. I'm not defending Vanguard by telling you lies about the game, I'm simply saying if you really are interested in giving the game a try, then wait until open beta to play it. That way you can decide whether a game is for you or not, rather than let other people decide for you.
What do people expect out of beta "leaks" anyway? Good news? lol right, people enjoying the game and actually spending their time helping the company by reporting bugs and giving them feedbacks aren't gonna chance losing beta access by doing leaks. Of course you're going to hear bad news when you see leaks. I'm not making excuses for some of the issues brought up in the leaks by the way, but if you do follow the beta newsletters, you'll know a lot of the "issues" were/are being addressed. In case you don't know where to check the beta newsletters, here it is:
Enjoy. Like I said, if you can dig up the beta leaks from 7-8 months old, at least do some research and see whether or not those issues you bring up are being addressed, because many of them have already been addressed.
Edit: Since I know you won't do much research yourself, at least it doesn't appear you would, here's another link that shows you a small summary of the changes made between beta 2 -> 4. The beta leak you linked in your original post was in beta 2 by the way, in case you didn't know. But since you are willing to write Vanguard off from beta 2 leaks, I thought this might be helpful.

I'm sorry, but the game's motion / animations have improve tremendously. It's beautiful to look at.
I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!
And working in software company , i can guarantee you that beta , no mather how long is done on more or less finished product.
Doing anything diferent would be insane. And who ever doesnt understand that , obviously knows nothing about programming.
Many things could be changed during beta. But the core game can only stay the same.
And for me beta leaks only speak directly opposite of what i expected form Vanguard.
Good graphic = no
More hardware friendly than eq2 = no
Complex (and inteligent) combat system = no
Huge AND INTERESTING world = no
Great character customisation = no
Leave that , and only thing VsoH holds for me is the fact it is comming out soon.
Which is not so exciting anymore. Since EQ2 EOF , turns out to probably be a better deal.
As for Vanguard. I really hope I am so very very wrong.
But i am usually not
1) You can't trust Beta Leakers, period. They have thier own agenda.
2) Every answer in your list is COMPLETELY wrong:
Good graphic = AMAZING graphics.
More hardware friendly than eq2 =Actually, yes & no (depending on what comparison you're making), and considering EQ2 is 3 years older, that's quite inpressive.
Complex (and inteligent) combat system =ABSOLUTLY. This game has THE most complex combat since SWG Pre-CU, period.
Huge AND INTERESTING world =ABSOLUTLY. It's amazing to explore, or adventure in.
Great character customisation =THE best character customization EVER seen in any game, even SWG.
The answers you had had were just silly and plain FALSE. Period. All you're doing is comtributing to misinforming the public, seriously. You can even watch the Dev Journal Videos and see these things in action, so why make up things?
I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!
It is no secret 2006 was one of the worst for mmo players.....
So, what you are really saying, is every single MMORPG stunk, because every MMORPG ever had NDA breakers who said it sucked. Even the mighty WoW had people saying that it was crappy, as at the beginning of beta the game performed terribly. We all know how that turned out.
Rattrap let me just tell you this; you are in for a real treat when Vanguard releases. I know this because I. like the many trolls not in beta, have a crystal ball. Mine just happens to work differently.
I haven't seen any negative comments from the NDA breakers on par with those of other notably terrible MMO releases. And the negative comments mostly seem a bit vague and some of them completely off base. Like this one.
The truth is they have had no direction or concept beyond "make Everquest again" and not only did they fail in doing that, even if they manage to succeed through some divine miracle it will still suck because it’s a horrible idea to simply copy one of the first generation MMOs with gameplay that no one in their right mind enjoys anymore.
They touted it as a next generation MMORPG when it is a step backwards in every single aspect.
For starters, it has some unique classes (how refreshing!) and new takes on standard classes so I don't see how it's just copying a really really really old MMO. Then there's the huge potential of players starting their own cities, building boats etc. I generally hate pvp in MMOs for it just being a gank-fest. I don't see the fun or point in high level players hanging around in noob areas one-shotting people.
But building and defending towns - or raiding other guild's towns. That looks like serious fun to me, and something not many other MMOs have done.
I'm a little skeptical about the no-teleporting thing, but only from the point of view of guildies hooking up for grouping. From reading stuff it looks like the aim is for guildies to hang around in a certain area to level and move on to a new area together. What I would find annoying is having good areas for levelling spread out across the gameworld, to the point where they're so far apart the only practical thing is to pick one area and ignore the others. Variety is always good to fend off boredom brought on by repetition.
But unlike the originator of this thread, I think I'll pre-order. I'm very over WoW and BC just looks like more of the same.

Was EverQuest a bad game? Far from it. It was a great game. It got a lot of bad rep during and after beta.
Is WoW a bad game? No. It also got a lot of bad rep during and after beta.
Every MMORPG got bad rep during beta, including the very best ones.
