MMORPG's most frequently seen in physical retail stores

i decided to make this topic because .. for the last two years .. i have found something odd .. i only seem to see 3 or 4 different mmorpg's carried in stores ... the same 3 or 4 in every store ...

those usually consist of .. Guildwars,  ... WOW, dungeons and dragons online, and city of villains ... once and a while i see a beat up old box of everquest II or final fantasy IX

why on earth dont retail stores get some more games out there ... for the last few releases i was looking forward to .. i havent been able to get the games from a store .. those were phantasy star universe online, rf-online, Dnl, and some others i forget now .. i ended up never trying these games out because i couldnt find them in stores ... 

and when i buy a game i want the box, manual and everything ... i dont like downloading off the net .. if i did , i would just steal the game from a p2p network ...but as i said .. i like buying the game in box with manual .. everything .. makes me feel as if im truely buying and collecting it.. and if its a game i hope to love .. i will buy the collectors edition ...( as i did with city of villains and eqII)

 

i'd like to hear anyone's feedback on this .... i think its a major problem with retail stores .. and i wonder WHY those stores dont carry other games ... is it because of the deals they strike with publishers? to only carry certain games? is it because the publishers of these unfound games arent doing their job right ? or dont have the money to push out physical boxes? is it because no one would buy these games? a combination of all?

the fact remains .. i see less and less companies out there .. but more and more MMORPG's .. how are any underdog .. or less than gigantic game developers supposed to give rise to competition and have a chance at success .. when we can only find these main game publisher's and studio's boxes out there ...

    i havn't seen eq2 at very many stores besides eb games

    It is not the stores, it is the publishers. Phantasy Star= download only, RF= download only, DnL= piece of shit that was download only.

    Zorvan usually I agree with you, and I do agree it is the publishers but PSU isn't download only, nor is RFO.  I have the boxes for both sitting on my shelf.

    In my area this is what I see:



    Walmart: DDO, GW, WoW, COX and sometimes the SOE bundle package.

    Best Buy: DDO, GW, WoW, COX, AA, EQ, EQ2, FFXI, and sometimes DAoC.

    EB/Gamestop: The same as Bestbuy with PSU and UO sometimes.

    All i can see is WoW.



    Maybe a few packages of EQ2 but almost 100% it's WoW.



    Imho that's really sad .

    I usually see WoW, City of Heroes/Villains, Guild Wars, Final Fantasy, Ultima Online, EQ, EQ 2, and every now and then Lineage 2 or Auto Assault.

    Oh yeah I forgot L2, I actually saw a copy of L2 today at Best Buy, hidden behind a bunch of non MMO related games.

    What do you expect? With the limited amount of space most Gamestop/EBGames have, they have to put out the games that are most likely to sell more so than games that are old and no one has heard about. Of course you're going to see WoW and GW up all the time, they sell well.



    Also as for finding new MMOs like PSU, if there isn't enough hype, the stores don't bother with many units past pre-orders, because like I said before, if no one wants it, why waste shelf space on it?
