I am getting FFXI imported, but i was wondering if anyone knew how much character transfer costed for when they finally release the game out here.
Also do you get to keep all your item and stuff like that? Or is it gonna be a case of me having to get back all that stuff on the new server?
Is there any "INGAME" news about the UK release either? I mean they have no date set for the general public but ingame it might say... we are now testing the UK servers hopefully online by the end of april or something....
Was that a thought I just had, or and echo of a thought I was thinking of having?

The funny thing is I don't think you'll need to transfer your char at all because all the servers are random without a world pass. On every server there are people from all over the US, Canada, and Japan. There has been talk of making a NA server but I don't think it will happen. Also if you joined a whole new server none of the areas would be under control so no crystals until they are under control. Also the economy at the Auction House would suck and nothing would sell for a while and if it did it would be for nothing.
So good luck with FFXI have fun. I know I am having fun and will keep doing so.
I agree with the last post. More on the server transfer thing: If you're in a server now and know others who are going to be on, you can just have them send you a world pass or you can send them one so you can do things together.

Yeah i knew about the world pass then and the random server thing.. but.. i think that there are gonna be UK servers, else why wait to bring it out over here in the UK? I mean its not like PC games are not compatable.. its only playstation games that would have to be changed to PAL.
And they brought out the playstaion 2 versian later in america than the PC versian anyway. I just think it is a bit weird.. maybe not a UK server.. but a European server... saying that I have more chance of understanding americans than i do with the rest of europe... maybe thats the problem.. there trying to think of language translator for the game so that we can talk in any language and it can be at least half way understood
hah.. like they would bother..

"i think that there are gonna be UK servers, else why wait to bring it out over here in the UK?"
There aren't even servers in North America. All the servers are located in Japan. That's usually the way it goes - the country in which the game was developed is also the country in which the servers are located. There won't be any UK servers, so I'm not sure what your question is.
If you that sure there won't be UK servers.. .why the hell are they waiting so long to release it over here? As I said its not a PAL NTSC issue, cos PC games work on other PC's no matter where it is.
Its not a language issue cos americans speak a variation of english.
could Cost be an issue? I don't think so..if they can afford to ship it to america, i am sure they can handle the UK and the EU.
So why squaresoft (there still squaresoft to me... squre enix sounds so stupid)... Why have you not released this game in the UK?

You can't assume Square will do anything smart just because another company did it. So far with FFXI it seems they want to avoid doing anything that any other company does, even if it's good business. They don't have NA servers, they didn't let NA choose their own servers easily(it's just unAmerican ), and that probably lost them a lot of money.
(editted to remove references to SquareEnix as 'crazy japs'. The Japanese are a good people, whether or not SquareEnix consider Japanese the genetically superior race and therefore ignore the experiences of Western and Korean MMOG developers has no bearing on Japanese in general.)
It's easy to see how Lineage, IMO a horrible game, had millions of subscribers in the east when you consider a company like Square can't make an MMORPG that isn't end-user sodomy. *cough* Not to hurt your excitement over getting the game, hey you might like it.
