Hello, I played FFXI years ago when the game's grind was for SUPER HARDCORE players only, this was alright but getting to 15 was a challenge and thats wrong. At any rate I wanted to have a few questions answered.

1. Have they added time cards or is playonline still retarted?

2. Has the grind gotten and easier and the game more bearable.

3. Is the population still there?

    1. Playonline is the worst haha. Still.

    2. The grind will neer be fixed in that game. The Japanese already have 3-4 75s and they are the majority of the players.

    3. It's populated enough to play. I'd say roughly 70% Japanese to 30% US and other. It has gotten better with the PS2 and 360 versions, but be prepared to use the translation tool.

It's still a fantastic game though, I enjoy it very much.

dude, i am american, i have an american LS, all my friends are america.   I have 3 lvl 75 jobs.  most people have more because im a casual player, ive been playing off and on for 3 years.  There is still just as many people now as there was 2 years ago, at least on my server.. point is, I have no idea where you are getting your info man.  After 3 years of play most AMERICANS have more than 3 75 jobs, most JP have 8-9ish, if not more, and plenty have all or close to all jobs 75, excluding the 3 new ones.  BUT, there are still alot of people coming back to this great game everyday, and many just starting out, so its very versatile and if you wanna come back dont let that stop you.  As far as the grind, I dont know when you quit, but we have exp rings now and stuff, and some of the new areas are crazy insane exp, so it makes it easier.  A good thing about so many people haveing higher lvl jobs is they are experienced and haev good items making your pts better, thus you lvling easer/quicker.  Dont  know what else I could say to help ya but i did my best.

I have before wrote close to an essay of the tedium of grinding in ffxi but it has become a lot better for several reasons.

    1. Players are much more experienced now setting up good parties where and what to camp etc. It used to be that you could have all kinds of wacky party setups but most people will say {No Thanks} nowadays if the leader doesn't know what the hell he is doing.

    2. The XP gain and death penalty has been adjusted to be friendlier.

    3. The Empress ring is a huge bonus early levels and still pretty decent at later levels.

If I were you I'd give it a shot, I've come back 3 times and now I'm completely hooked, SE has changed and added a lot of things to make the games better and the Aht'Urgan expansion is sweet.

I play on Asura a very nicely populated server with a good community.

Another thing, not being able to choose a server pissed me off to no extent.

Even though its easy to change, its still a pain in the ass to go through changing.

And I remembered why i had such a hard time, I was a red mage lol.

At the time they were the hardest class to play because you never had money, having to buy white magic, black magic, red magic, and warrior armor + weps. Then along with that you were the back-up for almost everything. Still i love the RM

Mages can actually get away pretty cheap, if you compare the cost of spells to the equipment melees have to get at later levels it's no big deal.

Also mages seem to get an invite no matter how bad their gear is, like 51+ black mages with no elemental staves still get invites.

As a red mage you only need good melee gear if you plan to solo a lot, for the party experience expect to be stuck at cure and refresh duty.

Exactly, I was generally a soloer.

either way Im not gonna be a RM again, prolly a warrior>sam/ran.

I thought about coming back and giving it a try, but:

    1.  The fact there is no free trial available (not in any valid sense - i.e. not having to buy something else first) is disturbing considering that all other major MMO's have a free trial, if even for 3 days.  Yes, the game has dropped from 50 to 20 bucks, but I still don't think paying 20 bucks to find out if a game has gotten better is a fair trade.  Also, it gives a very elitist appearance that I can do without.

    2.  The utter deletion of an account, to include any characters, after a mere 3 months of an account's deactivation is also ridiculous in comparison to other MMO's.  NO MMO I have ever seen has deleted customer accounts after such a short time, if at all.  It might be a bit understandable in a small company that has one MMO and nothing else, but in company's such as Sony and Square, it is pretty much unexcusable.

The game does have enough appeal to pull players back regularly to see if it more suits them, however, the company that runs the game negates that appeal by applying some very unnecessary and comparatively ridiculous policies.  It's not very inviting.

I have to say after reading this, im not sure if i want to try this game out now. What turns me off about this game now is the deleting of my account if i dont play for more then 3 months. Im sorry but thats just stupid to do, some people have to take breaks b.c of real life issues. To delete someones account b.c of that is bullshit. I really wanted to try this game, now it looks like i wont till they do away with the deletings of peoples accounts.

Have just returned myself after a year, and my charachters are still there. Population on my server seems to have gone down, but then, perhaps they are just in different places
