What kind of community will this game have..

Well ive played quite a few MMO's , From EQ, DAoC, AC, CoH, CoV, EQ2, Wow...

And i would have too say WoW has just about the worst community out of all of them.. Most of the others had a lot of nice people that would help people out and tell them what too do too get started in the game.. WoW where can i start.. i have never seen such abusive retards in a game.. i don't know if its just these guys have just started playing a mmo and haven't realized there is always the new guy..

I always try too help people out with questions they have.. and they mostly say that i was the first that actually tried too help them..

I was curious.. I know this game isn't a WoW clone.. but i cant shake the feeling that those leet speaking morons from WoW will come over and ruin a new mmo's community.. Please tell me i am wrong.. i don't think i can play another MMO that has those kinds of people in it..

Peace..

  • It will be like WoW's and it will have nothing to do with Mythic or EA or the Warhammer IP.  It will be this way because that is the way  a large portion of the current culture of gamers is.

All MMOs will be this way even the smaller ones have significant portions of dickheads who can't do anything but whine and cuss.  There is nothing you can do except make your own sub-communities.

Gestalt makes a good point. The "leet speaking morons" are, unfortunately, found in pretty much every MMO available today, whether it be RPG, RTS, FPS or any other genre.

I will say this, tho...WAR, much like DAOC, relies on a community working together. RvR being the focus of the game, rather than deathmatch arena PvP, requires many guilds to work together to hold dominance for a faction. Many guilds in WoW did their own thing in PvP and PvE, many times snubbing the majority of non-members. That may work in the WoW battlegrounds that only need a few people, but a single guild that holds that mentality in WAR is going won't be worth anything attempting to storm an enemy capital on their own.

Also, in a recent interview with Paul Barnett and Jeff Hickman, they said "The guild management system is starting where DAoC is today", which I am taking to mean that an alliance system will also be implemented as it was in DAOC. I found that this was a big point in where WoW's community was lacking. Alliances help build a strong bond between guilds and a reliance on others outside your own guild for support. So while there will, no doubt, be the leetspeakers and elitists (as it is an inevetible part of gaming these days), those with a strong community involvement are going to enjoy much more success in the realm war.

I think Toby said it quite good. In WAR you will have to work together a lot more then in WoW, and that's why the community will be different then in WoW.

At least... I hope so ;)

On the internet people are free to act as they please really, I'm sure this game will have a large, diverse community. So it's best to find those that you like and work with them. If it turns out to be a small community, then it might be another story where you'd have to put up with those people.

I think we do our best to be a good community :P

But anyway, there's very spefic reasons why WoW has a horrible community and they are: Warcraft Multiplayer and Diablo. I mean, that's where WoW draws it's community from first and formost(other blizzard games.)

You don't have this problem in WAR, because first and formost, WAR draws it's community from other Games-Workshop Games. These games generally have a pretty nice community, so I doubt we'll have such problems.

Yeah, we'll pick up some WoWers too but the main community seems to assimilate secondary communities in my opinion. I mean, we turned WoW noobs in to litterates in CoH, they were pretty nice afterwards too.

How far have u come into WoW. At lvl 60 the most guys aren't total idiots. The WoW community is bad, but it's not terrible, altho I hope the WAR community will be better image

We can all only hope it will be a good community. No matter how good a games community is there is of course those certain few that bring it down. However, DAoC had a great community when I played it. The community was usually very helpful and mature to certain extends, its one of the bigger things I liked about that game, hopefully some of that will carry on to WAR.

The main thing im looking at .. is in WoW you have no accountability for being a asshat.. Unlike in games like EQ if you were like that no guild would want you and you would be a pathetic loser..

In WoW you can ninja stuff , steal all your guilds gold and then transfer servers and change your name and do it again.. but in other mmo's you couldnt do that easily..

Plus how easy WoW is compared too most games and you get little 12 year olds that, there job is too make everyone else around them not have fun..

I actually had alot of fun with the WoW young crowd. Sure they were a bit rowdy and unpolished but they learn fast. I was actually a guild sub-leader and was responsible for shaping up the young ones. I guess it all depends on how you wana look at things. Sure its temporarily a pain to handle there youthful antics. Everyone has potenial though and you can either shirk a challenge or enjoy it

I am hopeing the community is a good one.  Im not so sure I have faith that it will be.  Thro my experiences in past MMOs Ive come to see a lot of gamers out there sole intention is to ruin someones gameing experience.  Its just the way the MMO community has evolved.  Random idiots that spam the chat channels,  spam the forums..do whatever they can to pester people.  A little trash talk is good and fine but some people take it too far.

I have to agree with the one poster.  In WoWs BGs the leetest guilds would seperate themselves from everyone else.  Half the time they wouldnt join the raid..or invite anyone to there raid if you was the loner or two that was in the game you was basically soloing the BG alone.  Warhammer seems like its gonna be built on a thriveing community..unlike WoW.  So,  heres to hopeing I guess..but I dont have much faith in it.

If I need heals Im not killing fast enough

Looking at the history of Warhammer, I mean the original PnP (paper and pencil) game, it seems to have a pretty loyal fan base which continues to this very day. Also the original game came out almost 20 years ago, if I remember correctly in 1982...

With that in mind I am sure this game will appeal to that generation of PnP players, much like how Dungeons and Dragons online appeal to that generation of PnP gamers back in the hayday of the PnP version of D&D. And from what I heard the community in D&D online is very mature and very helpful (probably those adults who played the game back when they were a lad).

Anyway, I am more than certain that the community that arises in WAR will be a good one, or at least a lot better than WOW. I mean with people like millbro playing this game, I know the community will rise to become one of the best in any MMORPG.

I am looking forward to this game very much and I am more than certain it will become one of the best MMOG out there.

My guess is that it will have a community similar to WoW's community, because I have heard alot of WoW players saying they are looking forward to the release of this game.

Let's not generalize WoW's community. While I agree there are lots and lots of immature players, it's only not the entire population. I've met good people and bad people, so my hopes are that if someone from WoW comes, it's one of the more mature.

Also, WAR thrives on Warhammer, other GW-games and DAoC, which will probably form the greatest group in this MMO. These are mature people and very friendly players. So my expectations are a good community. As a side note: most of the people anticipating the game have registered on dedicated forums and have proven this as well. To my surprise I haven't seen one spammer or flamer waiting for this game.

Well the only thing that I hope will not follow this game is the nerf plague that owns Blizzard, and the little stupid teenagers that play and get their butts beat and then screem NERF!!!..and then Mythic Entertainment listens to these idiot kids, then this game will be a clone to WOW. and then this company starts messing around with the classes like Blizz does...

You might try taking some time off from trolling and read a bit up on the game.

I'd have to agree that WoW has a pretty bad community.  There are not very generous or helpful people.  I've seen new players ask questions, for help, or even a insignificant amount of money  and they get shot down by many of the higher level players with rude, at times malicious, comments.  I do my best to help people in WoW, either by sparing some of my time or money to give some of the newer guys a foot up and not discourage them from playing.

Like someone said, though, every game has its jackasses.  All we can hope is that they get weeded out so the rest of us can become a stronger community.  So my vote has to be for the second choice.  We can hope for the best, just don't count on it.
