Well I got the message in my email box and thought I may as well try this game out and see if its as bad as anyone says.

So far downloading the game and setting up the forum account was easy.   I did not have to enter any creditcard info yet to play.   If I do, from the posts Ihave read I won't go any further but so far so good on the setting up part.   I will post my opinion of the game after I have tried it and finished with setting it up.

I can pretty much figure the outcome of your thoughts on it.  But I do look forward to what you think of it, I never played DnL (mainly because of obvious reasons).  Anyways, let me know what you think of it.

What immediately struck me (having once followed the game) was how poor the graphics were.

But graphics aren't everything and I gave it a chance. The game itself doesn't seem awful, but there were just so many bugs (and lag). In the short time I played (getting to level 10) 2 very high level mobs spawned in the noob area. I think that's unforgiveable game design. Then my fairie character couldn't get inside a building to talk to a quest NPC - she just kept flying above the doorway and onto the roof. Eventually I figured out you could target and activate quest NPCs from a long distance so managed to find a spot where I could see them from outside. And my silly pet (which cost practically all of my money) died almost instantly. Its default setting was aggressive and it just ran off into a group of skeletons who instantly whomped it.

As a free trial, I think it's pretty poor. You don't see any of the good stuff by level 10. I was curious about the summoned pets and what some of the higher level content looked like, but I couldn't see myself parting with $30 just to satisfy my curiosity. Most of the things that attracted me to DnL as a game I now see listed as features in Vanguard. I'd rather pay more to play a fully functional game - because my free time is finite and I like to make the most of it.

Holy S**t Odysses! I thought you died and left no forwarding address...

Played Wow, D and L, AOC, GW, Eve, Rift and many more insignificant games.

Well I don't want to bash the game but I really didn't enjoy the trial that they had to offer.   The graphics ( and I hate to rip on a game because of graphics, I am still a fan of the original Asheron's Call) were not up to par for me.    I remember reading alot of posts about how beautiful the graphics were and i cranked everything up to the max and it didn't look to good to me.   In fairness though I didn't experience any lag at all.   But I am not sure if I was playing the client sample or the trial.   It did start to get confusing for me because I tried to log into the game but it said I didn't have an account even though I did sign up for the free forum account.   So I couldn't log into the game unless probably subscribing.   So I clicked the other option which was world terrain sample.   They do need to make that part easier for new players, give them a free trial to be in the whole complete game and hopefully that will be enough to get people to stay.   They trial that I was doing was not enough for me to play longer then an hour.
