Race and class?

I thought i had found what i wanted to play as, but i'am not sure anymore, really wanted to play a human mystic, going sorceress then archmage. But after a bit more thinking and reading I'm wanting to try something else.

Dark Elf is one thats comes to my mind, is there any class that they have which is similar to the sorceress/archmage class of the human?
And is there any dual blade fighter, which has the capabilities to solo?

I always have a hard time choosing what i want to play as in games where there is so many class to advance in, so if anyone want to help, write some of their opinions on the classes you have played or something, that would really help me a lot.

The Dark Elf Equalivant of a Sorceress is a Spell Howler. Spell howlers are the hardest hitting mage in the game. The amount of damage they can deal in pve or pvp is far superior of any other class.

There are 3 main dual blade fighters in the game; Blade dancer (dark elf), Gladiator (human) and Sword singer (light elf.)
The blade dancer and sword singer are both support classes as they buff the people in their parties. The blade dancer gives offensive buffs while the light elf gives defensive buffs. Neither class are effective at soloing but they will easily find a party.
The gladiator is a damage dealing duel sword fighter. They arent that effective until they get the Triple Sonic Slash move which deals insane amounts of damage. Despite that, the Gladiator is a bit of a gimp class. They have weak defence, the damage can always be beaten by an archer or nuker-mage type, and they are slow; they can be easily kited by archers or even other nukers.
So in conclusion, none of the 3 duel fighters are that great in solo mode.

I have played a number of classes, i find that the Spellsinger is the fastest leveler *IF* you are able to keep a constant level of MP, which means you wil need a friend or 2nd account to raise a Shillien Elder or Elven elder.
The if you want a group then i suggest a support class. The bladedancer's and sword singer's are always welcome in a group.
For pvp you could choose a number of classes. The Spellhowlers, Spell singers, Necromancers and sorcerors do usually come on top. But a good Hawk Eye, Phantom ranger or Silver ranger can easily pin down a mage but thats only if they have buffs.  Also Chronicle 5 is the chronicle of the dagger users.  They have a higher rate of landing a shot and have some nasty skills in the back ground.
Tyrants are also exceptional at PvP.

hope that helps, excuse any spelling/ grammer errors.

    good night

If you like pvp go like archer dager or any mage.

If you have alot of adina go like a necro or an archer.
If you dont have alot of money go dager or dark elf mage.

If you just want to be rich go dworf.

If you want a  fun class to play go fist ork, or a glad.

Also ork mages are fun to play but its raly hard to lvl.

  • Seems almost all the dual blade classes are support classes, i don't think thats something for me, never liked to play support classes in any mmo so far.

But the spell howler seems interesting, since you said it was the hardest hitting mage, like doing a lot of damage.

Anyway, thanks for the replies so far =)

Spell howlers are very attractive but they are the slowest casters in the game. The lack of speed is made up for damage.

Spell singers are fastest. Low damage makes up for superior speed.

Sorcerer's are in the middle. Ok damage and ok speed.

  • When you say slow, what do you mean? like the spells they cast takes longer time to cast than a similar spells from the spell singer or sorceress? if so, is it possible to tell how much slower?

    Yeah you hit the money.

The casting speed is the slowest out of all the nukers. This isnt a bad thing in pve as it paces your soloing out so you dont zip it all away in 5 super fast kills. It gives your char a chance to regain some MP.

Each mage has different skills after level 20.  A spell howler has the highest INT (magic damage) and more power skills, while they carry the lowest WIT (casting speed.)

The difference in casting speed between the classes is only a couple of seconds. It might take a Spell howler 3/4 seconds to cast an attack. While a spell singer might only take 2.

The great thing about spell howlers and spell singers is that when they  hit C grade, they are able to cancel out their weaknesses by using special weapons and armour set.

A spell howler just need a Karmian set which will increase WIT and so making casting faster. A spell singer just needs a Demon set and so makes it a harder hitting mage.

A sorceror can go either way. It depends on PvP vs PvE. Casting speed for pve and damage for pvp.

What about warcryers?  I heard a lot of good stuff about them for pvp

Eh, let me help out in this thread since I've played L2 off and on since closed beta and don't really agree with some of the answers.

Most of my points will be geared toward end-game, that is to say 65+ or 70+ in many cases. But this is actually where most of your gameplay will be if you stick with the game, since the leveling curve makes all the earlier levels breeze right on by in comparison.

First of all, blade dancers are not a bad solo class. In the most literal sense of "solo", I think they're one of the best. They use dances which increase their critical rate, attack speed, and later on can give themselves a buff to restore health while fighting.

If you have a good clan that has a clan hall with buffs, you can full buff yourself, take a potion to increase your attack speed and solo in a very relaxing way. No fussing with a buffer or recharger, just killing mobs. To make blade dancers more attractive, they're useful in groups and perfect for small groups like a duo or trio with other damage dealers.

Sword singers on the other hand are pretty gimp. They're really a support class, and not nearly as good. But their rarity can make you more highly desired. Still, I don't recommend them after having played several, since I typically play whatever character my clan needs to raid or siege.

Spell howlers are pretty leet sauce. Until chronicle 5, SH were a strong PvP class, and arguably THE single best PvE class. This is because Spell Howlers can do a very efficient duo with a Shillien Elder or Elven Elder. The thing that makes Spell Howlers so much better than the other mages (other than necromancers), is that they have body to mind, a skill which sacrifices HP for MP. This will shorten your rest time substantially, since you won't really need your HP to be anywhere near full anyway (you'll kill everything before it has a chance to hit you, just play smart). After you get comfortable you can use a skill called Curse Death Link, which does more damage if you keep your HP as low as possible.

SH used to be the strongest raiding class, because their ability to regenerate mana over a long period of time is far superior to the other mages. Also, one of the largest bosses in the game, the Earth Dragon Antharas had a very big weakness to wind. Spellhowlers have taken the back seat, or maybe the side-seat to archers in raiding though, because SHs were so easy to level that farmers were making armies of them and taking all of the raid bosses from real players. So now most top end guilds rely on archer damage.

If you want to be a Spell Howler, I strongly advise that you play two characters all of the time. Make yourself a shillien elder as an alternate, and level them together. This will make leveling slower in the beginning, but by the time you are 40+ it will have already made up for itself. SE's can heal you when you get yourself into deep shit, and their ability to regenerate your mana and buff you will make you many times more efficient than an SH without one. The SE does not require a second computer, you can play it in a separate window on the same PC by putting the game into windowed mode. You'll only need to switch over to the SE's screen once every 10 minutes or so to quickly buff and recharge yourself. It's not really much more complicated than playing 1 character.

If you were considering going any other damage dealing class, I would recommend Archer. Specifically either human archer (Hawkeye) or dark elf archer (Phantom Ranger). At top level PvP these are the cavalry. They can sustain their damage for long periods of time, and they can destroy everything in their path. For as long as L2 has existed, many classes have been good at one point and bad at another, archers have not. Archers have ALWAYS been good, it's just a matter of how good they are. Unless they make drastic changes in the future (weakening archers in short range combat), it's a safe bet that an archer will always be a good PvP class. On the other hand, archers can be kind of a bitch to level, so you may want to level up as a mage first then subclass archer if it seems fitting to your style.

    Also, warcriers are total ass.

They have some useful buffs, but jesus christ, they're the single most boring class to play. I'd say more boring than a dwarf in PvP because they don't even look cute to offset how god damned awful they are to play.
