I want an MMORPG with GREAT community!! Help!

I've decided. I'm waiting until V:SoH and/or AoC for my big time sink. But, until then, I need a place to hang out! I want an MMORPG with a GREAT tightknit and fun community! I know WoW's community is MASSIVE, but (on the whole) they seem to be much more immature than myself. I've already played EQ2, and I loved the community, however since dueling/PvP was implemented it has been on a downward decline. This does not mean I am ruling out PvP (ala EVE).

Any suggestions?

thanks

Ryzom is said to have  good community (in addition to Horizons you asked about earlier on their forum). But since i never installed the Ryzom client i downloaded back in the autumn, i cannot confirm or deny.

Everyone is helpful in Star Wars Galaxies. Played for 2 years (Pre NGE and post) and only really met a handfull of inconsiterate people, mostly Rebels. Really active PvP too, but how it was created is a little unfair. You can sign up to be in the Special Forces, so you're never safe. A level 90 of the opposite faction can come up and kill you.

If you wan't to give SWG a shot, go for it. I just don't want any flaming on me for sticking up for my favorite game.

I agree with Ryzom. Very nice and super helpful community. Same with Horizons, their community is pretty mature.

It's pretty damn easy to get in a guild/clan thing in Ryzom. I joined one in just a few minutes.

I tried Ryzom's free trial and found the community to be a great help. They answered any question I had and even had a CSR there to help with some graphics issues and answer questions.

SWG has a good community too.

As i know of till now, SWG was my best community related experience. The fact there isn't any npc vendor probably "force" people to act cool and be nice.

Ryzom: Well the community is good too, but the game really ain't.

City of Heroes/Villains: Got a great community too, at least on 'Vigilance' (i'm belgian, this is the french server).  And the game is really fun.

Anyway vanguard should be out in january (i'm waiting for it too ^^).

CoH/CoV had a good community, but I found the game to be repetitive.

WWIIOnline has a generally good community, but there is a group who do the usual moan, cry thing.

Yay! Read my thread on page 3 at the SWG Refugee Veteran forum. I am happy that I am not alone. Thank you!

    I agree very much.

There's something about Ryzom that seems to filter out the l33t speaking ganker types of player. You may meet a few in the free trial area, but they are pretty much non existant on the mainland. The community is generally mature, friendly and helpful. There is a good mix of role players and non role players (and plenty inbetween) who respect eachothers style of play.

The game is a fairly original one and takes some time to get used to. It's perhaps not for everyone, but well worth having a look at the free trial. Those players who do like Ryzom's features will often say they've not found another mmorpg that comes close.

most smaller games.  and then stuff that scares the kiddes away like EvE or wurmonline(I'm a fanboy to the latter)

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Paul, what exactly is Wurmonline? Since you're a fanboy, sell me the game! I'm completely open to new titles, so give me a reason why I should play your game of choice!

i completely agree with those that are recommending Ryzom - good community and probably the best customer support

the two times i sent in a request for help i had a GMs avatar pop into the game right in front of me and practically held me by the hand to lead me through - almost shocking how nice that experience was

honestly, it's like i keep saying - it's the same people playing all the games.  if you've played more than one game, you're proving my point.  sometimes, it's just a matter of finding a good guild/clan that plays a number of games at once.

then, once you're bored with one game, you can swap to another and you've already got an established guild/clan to join.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

The only guild/clan I've heard of that does this kind of thing is the Illuminati or whatever they're called. They were in EQ2 and I know they're in SWG among others

wurm online is a crafting centric game based on survival(think Australia settle the land type thing).  house building, city mangement, and general building.  also has very nice crafting in general.  very community based.  though it does have a down fall of being time consuming in some aspects.  also it has an unlimited free trial(though it is very nerfed if thats all you plan on playin on).

also has a second server that is extremely hard core to say in the least; skill lose, full loot, even loss of your town.(though it is almost/somewhat civil).  this second server is completely option and most of the player bas doesn't play on this server.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

well in my experience, in some cases, the most popular games hast the worst comunity, becouse in those popular gamers wants to be higher than everyone else.

For example, when i started to play lineage 2 i was getting bored, becouse every single day, some one was crying and complaining about how a pk killed them and they droped some armor, and you start to get mad at that people, who never gives some contribution to the community.

I tryed Eve-Online and its great, you will SOLO for a long long long long long time, but the chat windows is always open, and you can talk with every in different language channels and locations channels. And in my case, they helped me, even they gived me 750 000 credits for upgrades when i was a newbie.

    Hope my contribution helps you.

EVE and Anarchy online have the two best communities I've ever seen, particularly AO. AO's noob island is a little "washed thin" due to the less mature free players popping in and out these past years, but otherwise its the most helpful bunch I have ever seen.

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

The fewer the players, the better the community for the most part.    It usually means, they're more dedicated supporting a floundering game.  That doesn't mean huge player bases don't make great communities.  More people means good people are tougher to find.  My guild in WOW were as nice as DAOC, EQ and AO.

The 4th coming has a really nice community, but thats just about the only good thing about it.

Yeah, I'm looking for a game that I could play on my laptop (AMD TURION TL-52 x2 running at 1.66 GHZ with 2gb ram and a 256 shared card) but still look decent on my top of the line desktop (XFX nVidia 7800 GTX in SLI, 2gb corsair ultra-low latency ram, 10,000 RPM hard drive, 2.4GHZ dual core processor, you get the idea). Are there any of these games that fit those criteria? I know DDO gets a lot of flack because it didn't live up to expectations, but, hey, the quests are fun right? How's the community? I don't need another EQ2 to get into right before V:SOH and AoC come out!

i would recommend eve, if you want to spend a few months flying around in space waiting for the releases of the games you have listed. Good mature community, who i have found to be very friendly

EVE has a great  community. And it's fun to play, but takes some time to get into it.

WoW is out of question the game with the worst community in game history. (according to me)

I recommend you to either try EVE or wait till V:SoH like me :)

That game will rock your socks off.

    [b}Wow! Much gold. So amaze!
